Lazaro P. Fields is an American lawyer who served as a federal prosecutor. He is currently an attorney in private practice.
Alma mater: Florida State University College of Law.[1]
Occupation: Lawyer Known for: Representing Donald Trump |
Law career
[edit]Fields was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2017[2]
Fields was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida where he obtained a conviction at trial against Daniel Alan Baker, former U.S. Army soldier from Tallahassee, who threatened violence against right-wing protestors at the Florida Capitol Complex.[3] [4] [5] [6]
Fields also prosecuted Eugene Huelsman for threatening to kill Congressman Matt Gaetz,[7] [8] [9]Stephen Alford for attempting to defraud Senate President Don Gaetz based upon the false promise to secure a Presidential Pardon from Joe Biden, [10] [11] and Brian Kolfage for tax fraud in a scheme to defraud thousands of donors in connection with the online crowdfunding campaign known as “We Build the Wall.” [12] [13][14]
Fields also prosecuted correctional officer Jimmy Lee Highsmith, who was found guilty at trial of engaging in sexual acts with an inmate in his custody at FCI Tallahassee nearly a decade earlier.[15][16]
In 2022, Fields joined litigation boutique Continental PLLC as a partner.[17]
Fields was a member of the legal team defending Donald Trump in the FBI investigation into his handling of government documents at Mar-A-Lago.[18][19][20]
Fields was also a member of the trial team in People of the State of New York v. Trump, et. al., the civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump and The Trump Organization for allegedly engaging in financial fraud.[21][22][23]
During the third week of the eleven-week civil trial, Fields was dubbed “the e-mails-waving Trump lawyer” by Business Insider because he cross-examined the Attorney General’s appraisal witness with emails that exposed the Attorney General’s Office knew the witness was assisting The Trump Organization in estimating asset values reflected in financial statements, despite the office eliciting testimony to the contrary.[24] Donald Trump later said of the cross-examination, “The government knew everything about what just took place, and the government lied . . . This was like Perry Mason.”[25]
