If you are sure it is beneficial, two, and at an absolute maximum, three. Three is not a target, it's a limit. Aim for one. A fact you assert, once verified in a reliable source, is verified. More is gilding the lily. Kevin James Rumley (born December 13, 1984) is a US Marine Corps veteran, musician, and social worker.[1][2][3]
Early life and military career
[edit]Rumley was born in Fairfax, Virginia.[4] He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2003 and was stationed in 29 Palms, CA.[4] On April 8, 2024, Rumley was injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) and received medical treatment at Walter Reed Hospital[5] in Washington, DC.
Post-military career
[edit]Upon his discharge from the Marines, Rumley studied at the University of North Carolina, Asheville,[6] receiving the William and Ida Friday Award for Service to the Community.[6] He received his Masters in Social Work from Western Carolina University[7] and his Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Tennessee.[8][9] Rumley serves as the Program Director for the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court.[1]
Rumley remains a vocal advocate for harm reduction modalities, including Medication for Opioid Use Disorder and needle exchanges.[10][11] In 2024, Rumley produced a podcast called VTC Podcast: Voices of Recovery.[12] For his service to the community, Rumley was awarded a free home in a surprise gesture from a local non-profit.[13] Rumley struggled with addiction and PTSD for many years.[14] He is now a long-standing recovery advocate.[15][16][17] Rumley served as a bellwether plaintiff in Swinney et al. V. The Islamic Republic of Iran under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.[18]
On April 7, 2024 (twenty years to the date of his IED explosion), Rumley released his solo album, entitled VI.[19] Rumley is the touring drummer for Tyler Ramsey (from Band of Horses).[20]
