India Annette Andrews Houghton (born February 16, 2002) is an American tennis player. She plays college tennis for the 21-time national champion Stanford Cardinal.
On August 10, 2024, Houghton won her first ITF title at the 2024 Irish Open W15 in doubles and reached her first career ITF singles final at the W15 Lakewood on July 7th, 2024.[1]
Houghton has a career-high WTA singles ranking of 1021 achieved on July 29, 2024.
Junior career
[edit]Houghton was born in San Francisco, California. As a junior, she was the Girls 16s Finalist at the 2018 Orange Bowl[2] and the Girls 16s Finalist at the 2018 Easter Bowl[3].
She played on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior circuit from 2018 to 2020, winning three singles titles (Vancouver ITF, Coral Gables ITFs and Inka Bowl in Lima, Peru) and two doubles titles. In her ITF junior debut in 2018 in Vancouver, Canada, she captured both the singles and doubles titles.
As a junior she played in the Junior U.S. Open in 2019 where she played Zheng Qinwen in the first round. Houghton qualified for the Junior Australian Open in 2020. She reached a career-high junior ranking of 73 on January 6, 2020.
Houghton committed to Stanford University in September 2019, ranked as high as the number 2 recruit in the country on TennisRecruiting.net.[4][5]
College tennis
[edit]Houghton is a three-time Pac-12 Tournament champion (2022-24), a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2021-24), and four-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll (2021-24).[6]
Despite battling injury her junior year and red-shirting, Houghton returned to play her senior year and had an undefeated dual-season singles record and led the team in dual-match singles clinches (6) including a senior day clinch[7][8]. Houghton is majoring in Science, Technology, and Society.[9]
