Fort Plassendale is a former fortress, located in Oudenburg, Belgium. It served during the Eighty Years' war, the War of Devolution, the Franco-Dutch war, the Nine Years' war, the War of Spanish Succession and the war of Austrian Succession. As of 2024, the only remaining structure is the so-called Spanish Toll House (Dutch: Spaans Tolhuis). The fortress as a whole was build after the Fall of Antwerp (1585) and demolished shortly after the port of Ostend was declared a Free-trade zone by Joseph II in 1781. Among the permanent residents were inn keepers, lock keepers, contractors, and boatmen.[1]
