Christopher Adams, better known by his stage name BADVOID (previously known as Notorious CHRIS), is a British DJ and electronic music producer from Newcastle upon Tyne.[1] He has released one Extended play,[2] as-well over 14 singles under BADVOID. He is best known for remixing songs and incorporating Heavy Metal & Drum and bass genres into his remixes. BADVOID's music is primarily electronic dance music (EDM) and contains elements of subgenres such as drum and bass, midtempo, and dubstep.[3][4]
Growing up in Mackay, Queensland, Adams began writing music in high school. He saw success within the Australian music scene, BADVOID released his debut extended play (EP) Enter The Void in 2021 with the record label Buygore. Throughout BADVOID's career, he has signed with record labels Insomniac Records, Welcome Records, and Dim Mak Records. BADVOID's music has surpassed more than 5 million plays on streaming services over the first five years of his career.
BADVOID writes and produces his music in Ableton Live, a digital audio workstation (DAW) developed by Ableton. Adams has listed heavy metal and rock music bands, as influences for his music production style. He frequently releases music on recording artist Kayzo's record label "Welcome Records"[5]
Adams currently resides in Brisbane, Australia.[6]
Early Life
[edit]Christopher grew up Ashington, England and later moved to Brisbane, Australia. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 years old due to bullying and death threats.
Adam's credited his rise to local fans within the Australian music scene, comparing his success to other Australian-based artists including Luude, Alison Wonderland and Godlands. In an interview with The Music Network, Adams said that the most important parts of his project is to remain as authentic as possible and connect with fans by putting his music above all else.[7]
Career
[edit]2018: "Till The End"
[edit]in 2018, Adams released his debut single titled "Till The End" which was released independently via his own record label.[8] BADVOID would later perform at various music festivals throughout in Australia in that same year, these included Groovin' the Moo, The Grass Is Greener (festival), Goodlife Presents and Timberfest.[9][10]
2019: "Activate" and "Blood" remix
[edit]On September, 12 2019, BADVOID released the song 'Activate", featuring recording artist 'Huzu". This was released via the recording artist Will Sparks record label Bourne Recordings.[11]
Later that year, Adams would release a remix of "BLOOD" by the recording artist Whipped Cream (DJ), Whipped Cream (DJ) would continue to support and play the remix in her live sets throughout the rest of 2019.[12]
2020: "I Would Never" and "Enter The Void"
[edit]in 2020, BADVOID signed his single "I Would Never" to Yellow Claw's (DJs) record label Barong Family,[13][14] in March 2020 BADVOID signed an Extended Play titled 'Enter The Void" on Borgore's record label Buygore, which peaked at #3 on the Beatport electro chart's. "Enter The Void" was added to rotation on the Australian radio network Triple J.[15][16] In addition, BADVOID's Extended Play was played on BBC Radio 1, Diplo and Friends, and Sirius XM.[17] As-well as charting in Canada, The United States, and Australia.[18][19] In November of 2020, BADVOID had released Mutliple singles signed to the Los Angeles based record label 'Enforce Records".[20]
2021: "Remember" and "Rockstar" remix
[edit]In 2021, BADVOID joined The Recording Academy voting team.[21][22] In November 2021 he released a remix of "Remember" by We Are Fury.[23] In December 2021, he released a remix of "Rockstar" by Bijou and Tony Watts.[24][25]
2022: "Poison" and "The Edge"
[edit]In January 2022, BADVOID released his debut Drum and bass single titled "Poison", this was released on Kayzo's label "Welcome Records.[26][27] Earmilk described this record as an "intense release of insanity featuring a prolonged frequency of sound".[28]
In May of 2022, BADVOID released his next single 'Ghosted', this was self released through SoundCloud's Repost Network.[29] In June of 2022, BADVOID was named as "next up to change the game" by DJ Life Mag.[30] In October 2022, BADVOID releases his follow up single titled ''The Edge" featuring Josh Rubin, via Kayzo's record label 'Welcome Records'.[31][32] This was BADVOID's second release on 'Welcome Records' in 2022.[33] BADVOID is set to make his United States debut in the summer of 2022 at Blaqvoid Festival, this show will formally introduce the British DJ to the United States.[34][35]
2023: "Open Your Eyes" and "War" remix.
[edit]In January 2023, BADVOID released his collaboration with 'PARTY THIEVES'.[36] This single was titled 'OPEN YOUR EYES' and was released on Steve Aoki's record label Dim Mak Records.[37] This single would chart in Germany and France's airplay charts after getting added to rotation by NRJ Radio.[38]
On January, 28, 2023, Adams would release his official remix of 'War" for the recording artist Kayzo. BADVOID's War remix was released via Kayzo's recording label Welcome Records and was described by Dubstep FBI's "Dustin Fletcher" as going viral on TikTok.[39][40]
In February of 2023, BADVOID would partner up with Dim Mak Records and IHeartRadio to release a 20 minute guest mix live on air, this featured songs from various other artists such as Kayzo, Ray Volpe, and more. This guest mix was exclusive to IHeartRadio but later released on Apple Music.[41][42]
Adams also featured on Insomniac Radio to release a 30 minute guest mix live on air, this mix was featured as "The Pulse EP. 024" and was hosted by American Drum & Bass DJ Reaper.[43][44]
