Isn't this category a copy of Category:Category suppression supporting templates and not necessary? 76.16.188.239 (talk) 19:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whaaaaaaaaaat? That is not even a page. the link is red. What do you want? 80AaronHunter80 (talk) 18:24, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
LOL that post was from 15 years ago! Everything has changed since then! - Ahunt (talk) 18:55, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My userpage ended up in this category

[edit]

And I can't figure out why. Could someone take a look at it for me? There isn't a tag for it there... Voyager640 (talk) 16:43, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

@Voyager640: It's not your fault. This happens when a userbox on your page does not wrap noinclude tags around its list of categories. The list of categories in a userbox should look something like this:
<noinclude>
[[Category:Health user templates]]
[[Category:Sexuality user templates]]
</noinclude>

If those noinclude lines are missing, then your page gets added to the categories that the userbox belongs to (as does every other page that uses it). The solution (which I just began to address) is to find out which userboxes make this mistake, and to fix them. —Ringbang (talk) 00:35, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a Userbox Search?

[edit]

How do I search Userboxes? I'm trying to find premade ones I can add to my page. -- 19:09, 13 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moly (talkcontribs)

Extremely late reply, but you can search for them by topic using a box at Wikipedia:Userboxes. Geolodus (talk) 06:30, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

add to front help page

[edit]

I'm thinking that this should be on the front help page. It took me two hours to find it.Iamiyouareyou (talk) 14:57, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Container Cat

[edit]

Why is this tagged as a container category? Is there a reason for that? I don't see the need for it. Avicennasis @ 23:59, 24 Av 5775 / 23:59, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's a container because any userbox should be classifiable, and sifting through thousands of userboxes with arcane names in a generic category is not fun! —Ringbang (talk) 14:27, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Empty pages

[edit]

There are three empty pages connected to this category. They are User:Obtund/Olympic rings; Template:User line; and Template:User null. This empty pages should be deleted by someone, worthless junk pages.Catfurball (talk) 22:50, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Catfurball: please check the source code of pages, which you are claiming to be empty. {{User:Obtund/Olympic rings}} is a userbox, which (perhaps, unnecessarily) wrapped in <includeonly></includeonly> (ping @Obtund: about that). {{User line}} can be used to visually separate userboxes (see example). {{User null}} is an utility userbox for Babel. Naming scheme "User XX" allows referring to it as "null" in parameters to Babel. Template:Babel-N directly uses {{User null}} by passing |1=null to {{Babel}}. Also, compare these to Template:User -. —andrybak (talk) 08:36, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved said userboxes to Category:Userbox arrangement templates and added documentation to help avoid such confusion in the future. —andrybak (talk) 09:08, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Andrybak: User:Obtund is a blocked sock puppet.Catfurball (talk) 19:11, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. —andrybak (talk) 19:15, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sock puppet pages

[edit]

User:Technical 13 who is a banned sock puppet has over 15 pages under Category:Userboxes. They are all grouped together under the letter t, and should be removed and some problemly deleted by someone.Catfurball (talk) 20:44, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Catfurball: userboxes are not deleted userboxes just because it is a subpage of a blocked user. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Deletion policy. —andrybak (talk) 18:23, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

@Ahunt: The following categories are messed by User:Floridaball, they are Category:Suriname user templates; Category:Regional interest user templates; and Category:Video game user templates. Can you spank this naughty user page one last time please. Catfurball (talk) 18:33, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully it is fixed now. That page was some sort of record-holder. - Ahunt (talk) 03:11, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WHY?! I DIDN’T TOUCH THEM ONCE!!! NOW YOU ARE JUST DELETING STUFF FROM MY PAGE FOR NO REASON!!!!!!!!! Floridaball (talk) 23:10, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don't belong here

[edit]

@Ahunt: The following pages User:Sliceplayer, Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computing, Wikipedia:Userboxes/Ideas and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Science/Physical are in Category:Userboxes, can you please remove them they don't belong here. Catfurball (talk) 17:23, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That was an interesting problem. The one thing all of those pages had in common was User:UBX/Quantum Computing and then was the issue. It may take a few minutes to propagate, but I believe it is  Fixed. - Ahunt (talk) 17:58, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ahunt: User:Mehediabedin isn't a userbox can you please remove this userpage. Catfurball (talk) 15:37, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should users own pages be categories throughout these template categories?

[edit]

Hi all, throughout these categories that are meant to show the various user templates, there are a lot of users who have added the category to their own userpage and are being shown here. Is that wanted, or should the cats be removed from their userpage? Jamzze (talk) 14:28, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Jamzze: @Ahunt: Userpages don't belong in this category. This has been a problem with this category for a long time, many have been removed. What categories have userpages in them, so they can be swiftly removed. Catfurball (talk) 18:39, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it does seem to convolute things. Keep in mind that the real purpose of categories in this context is to enable users to find similar or related userboxes, not to find other users who are employing the userbox. That is best accomplished with "what links here" when required. - Ahunt (talk) 18:48, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ahunt@Catfurball Hi to you both - so the only remedy is to go userpage-by-userpage and take outs the categories?
Should these categories have some kind of messaging or warning not to add the categories to a userpage? Jamzze (talk) 19:33, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamzze: I added instructions to many of the categories it doesn't do any good. There used to be a warning on some categories, I removed them since that wasn't helping much either and I was trying to make the categories uniform. Have a warning really doesn't do much of any good either, since editors seem to ignore the warnings. The best way is to just kick them of the categories. Catfurball (talk) 19:42, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if an IF statement could be created within a user template that, if both the template and category are present in any given username space, a {{minnow}} could be added alongside words to the effect of "whoopsie, you have added the user template category as well as the user template for X! Please delete the category from your userpage as soon as possible to remove your userpage from being tagged within this category", to the user's talk page. Jamzze (talk) 20:36, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jamzze: Some userbox pages do have instructions, still users don't get it. And many userboxes still aren't in categories, I have been working on this way before COVID-19. I have put many in categories and have created many new sub categories. Catfurball (talk) 20:49, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any AWB scripts (or similar) to accomplish this task? Tule-hog (talk) 03:42, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
