Huntsville's mayoral elections are non-partisan, but most candidates can be affiliated with political parties. Huntsville uses a two-round system, where election runoffs are held if no candidate obtains the majority of the vote.
The 2008 Huntsville mayoral election took place on August 26, 2008, to elect the mayor of Huntsville, Alabama. Incumbent mayor Loretta Spencer ran for re-election to a fourth term. A runoff was held on October 7, 2008, since no candidate surpassed 50%. In the runoff RepublicanTommy Battle defeated Mayor Spencer.[1]
Spencer was endorsed by The Huntsville Times. The Committee of 100, a group of businesspeople, issued a joint endorsement of Battle and Spencer.
The 2020 Huntsville mayoral election took place on August 25, 2020, to elect the mayor of Huntsville, Alabama. Incumbent Republican Mayor Tommy Battle won re-election to a fourth term, with Democrat Andy Woloszyn coming in second.[8]

The 2024 Huntsville mayoral election took place on August 27, 2024, to elect the mayor of Huntsville, Alabama. Incumbent Republican Mayor Tommy Battle is ran for re-election to a fifth term.[11] He won re-election due to the race being uncontested.[12]
