2003 Anambra State gubernatorial election

The 2003 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003.[1][2][3][4][5] PDP's Chris Ngige won election, defeating APGA's Peter Obi and other candidates.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Chinwoke Mbadinuju won at the PDP primary election, but the nomination was given to Chris Ngige,[14][15][16][17] making him to switch to AD.[18][19][20] Ngige's running mate was Okey Udeh.[21][22][23]
Electoral system
[edit]The Governor of Anambra State is elected using the plurality voting system.
Results
[edit]A total of seven candidates registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the election.[24] PDP candidate Chris Ngige won election for a first tenure, defeating APGA's candidate, Peter Obi and other candidates.[7][25][26][27][28][29][30]
The total number of registered voters in the state was 1,859,795.[7] However, only 47.22% (i.e. 878,212) of registered voters participated in the exercise.[6]
