1999 Manchester City Council election
Appearance
Elections to Manchester Council were held on Thursday, 6 May 1999. One third of the council was up for election, as well as a vacancy in Chorlton, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 2003. The two Independent Labour candidates stood as "Peace 2000 England's Republic", a slight alteration on the previous year's "Labour Peace 2000". Overall turnout was up marginally from the previous year at 21.9%. The Labour Party retained overall control of the Council.[1][2]
