Tabbed header

[edit]

In the event we would like to use a tabbed header to link “local” events to this main page, here is an option (adapted from the very nice Wiki Loves Women version of same, so the links will need to be pointed to our eventual pages for this to work.) Innisfree987 (talk) 22:38, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I updated with expected links, but for now they’re red linked because the pages aren’t live yet. Once we have a fixed date, it seems to me the main page at least can go live. Innisfree987 (talk) 22:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This looks good - I will see if I can remember how to make this work Victuallers (talk) 09:47, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And we’re live!

[edit]

Now set up at WP:Meetup. If organizers of the NZ, AUS, UK, etc. events like, they can just click on those redlinks to start their own pages, or I am happy to import the basic elements of the main page and leave the rest to be filled in. Just ping if you want help! (This is assuming they want separate pages? But if it all fits on the central page/folks prefer that, we can drop the tabs.) WIR Talk Page Banner?

[edit]

Should the 24-Hour Meetup have a dedicated WIR banner for editors to add to entry talk pages? If so I will make one and update the page accordingly; otherwise I’ll take off reference to it. Innisfree987 (talk) 20:41, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Using the one for month-long STEM editathon is also possible (that will be 209). Innisfree987 (talk) 20:42, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good question - I will add it to our meeting agenda. Pakoire (talk) 01:18, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Pakoire; per Victuallers I have one reserved if you want it, but whatever best suits your needs! Innisfree987 (talk) 01:44, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cool portrait

WomenArtistUpdates, oh thank you! That’s so cool, and, I’ve been dying to update the color scheme with something punchier. Let’s see if I can make a good palette from this. Or if you are defter than I with such things (I am terrible with color theory, just ok at automated tools!), please, I welcome suggestions! Innisfree987 (talk) 01:47, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A first-draft mockup is in my sandbox if anyone has thoughts or better ideas! Innisfree987 (talk) 02:27, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The image is brilliant! Does she need a WIR heart? Think we should use this on all out stuff IMO (if its not too late). Victuallers (talk) 09:49, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Victuallers and Innisfree987, I'd be happy to try to add a WiR heart. I won't be able to play until this afternoon. The color palette is good. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 14:36, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't resist taking a moment to be sure the two elements are compatible. They are. Please advise on what you envision - smaller heart, color of heart, placement of elements, etc. What I am posting takes great liberties with the WiR logo, but why not? WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 14:52, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My skills do not match my imagination - I was imagining being able to see the WIR logo through the Robot Ada's chest to show where Ada's heart is today Victuallers (talk) 18:00, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I could go either way—that was my original thought too but will it end up too small to be legible? Also, I added this version to the mockup I did and the big pop of red looks so great! Lovely work as ever WomenArtistUpdates, thank you! Innisfree987 (talk) 18:12, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Victuallers and Innisfree987 I like the idea of her having a badge, so do you think doing both works? She in the heart and she's wearing a WiR logo like superwoman. I overwrote my file you can see. Either way, I prefer her without the stripped background. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:21, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Variation 3 is as Victuallers imagined. (Ada Lovelace Day 2021 robot with badge)
I love them both! (Helpful, right?) The big heart gives a bigger splash of color but the badge alone allows for making Robot Ada bigger/the star. I think either is a win and a great logo for the event. Would be great to let the EFF engineer who made it know, both in appreciation/admiration and perhaps encouragement to join us (and bring friends!) Innisfree987 (talk) 21:09, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
*Looks like Hugh D'Andrade (the EFF artist) has a web presence, if someone wants to email him once all the pages are up and running. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:05, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Innisfree987, Well there's no reason not to use both (I can't decide which I like best either. I will put the heart icon (variation 1) on the October invite and the STEM and 10/12 talkpage tags. Victuallers could pick the one he want for the meet-up page(s). WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:40, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, wait - I can't decide on how it reads small. Variation 3 is on the talk page template, Variation 1 is on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2021#October 2021. Can't tell which one "reads" best small. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:52, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So I think 3 looks extremely cool but in that size I think we lose the WiR cue; even if 1 doesn’t quite read as well on its own, it prompts a zoom in to examine. So I think that’s the winner for the smaller size, for WiR “branding” purposes. Just my two cents tho. Innisfree987 (talk) 23:29, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Color palette

[edit]

I am going to go ahead and boldly institute the new color palette based on the source image since we all love it but I def welcome feedback/adjustment requests/etc.! Innisfree987 (talk) 21:18, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:40, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not keen on the"original" above as I think it clashes with the style of the EFF original - which is amazing. Maybe go with the EFF image unchanged or with a minimum inclusion of a WIR heart. Other news AdaWiki24.org now works. Victuallers (talk) 17:20, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Surprise— “original” above is the EFF image; WomenArtistUpdates removed the striped background. Great eye, right? I will add the small badge version to the meetup page now but if I’ve misunderstood [ETA- rereading, maybe I did misunderstand?] or someone isn’t pleased with how it looks on page, of course let’s change it. Innisfree987 (talk) 17:29, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think variation 3 looks great on the page! WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:19, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oct 19?

[edit]

In the end, are there any follow-up events planned for the 19th? I will comment out that mention for now, but let me know if it still be there! Innisfree987 (talk) 16:57, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ADA24 contributions by experienced editors

[edit]

I have heard a few different perspectives on how to list these. One suggestion was to ask experienced editors to list their contributions at event 209, the month-long STEM event. Another was to ask new editors to mark their contributions NE (new editor), although I worry they may not remember/understand this. Finally we could just have everyone’s entries undifferentiated in a big list, to have the most impressive possible showing and use other means to identify new editors (page edit history, etc.) Is there a consensus view on this?
