Flagged Revisions Opposition Userbox
I took the liberty of adding the below userbox to the Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Views page. There was no box there for those of us that oppose the idea, and I felt that the existing opposition boxes I've seen elsewhere weren't strong enough to express the depths of my feelings about the proposal and its possible consequences. I don't really know the protocol for this wikiproject, so I hope nobody minds. Nutiketaiel (talk) 20:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
NO | This user believes that Flagged Revisions are an abomination that will, if enacted, lead to the end of Wikipedia. |
It looks good, nothing wrong with expressing that point of view through a userbox and I think you found an appropriate place to post it. - Ahunt (talk) 21:02, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. Nutiketaiel (talk) 17:02, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
New userbox
Ok so I just made my first userbox! But now I don't know what to do. I have to add it to here right? Vantine84 (talk) 06:54, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Congratulations - it looks good! I would suggest that it should be added to this page. - Ahunt (talk) 13:43, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops - I see you already did that - good going! - Ahunt (talk) 13:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Not a fake ID?
I removed all userboxes from my user page awhile back, because I noticed they came up with other users' names/nicks on the page (or in code, or in links - hey, it's been awhile), and this didn't thrill me. Is the matter fixed, or is there a way to correct it should it happen again? My name on a list, or something? (Please reply to this page, not my talk page.) Thanks. Zephyrad (talk) 14:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Based on your page history, you're asking about code like
{{User:Some username here/UBX/I'm a userbox}}
, right? That's merely the name of the page being transcluded onto your userpage, nothing else. 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000) 21:30, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Phone userbox
I have created a userbox with my mobile phone: I wondered that because it was a file, it would be a userbox suitable for inclusion in this project's userbox directories. Regardless, I have already added it to my own userboxes. So, is it suitable for inclusion? Wikiert T S C 18:20, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Actually that isn't a userbox, it is an image. Have a look at Wikipedia:Userboxes to see how to make userboxes. - Ahunt (talk) 20:15, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I always have this problem:
When I put it in my userbox box, a </noinclude> thing appears and I can't get rid of it. Wikiert T S C 18:51, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Fixed. Wikiert T S C 13:12, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
A certain Userbox
Is there a userbox that can automatically update how many total edits you have? I've been looking for the last two hours, and I can't find it. Any suggestions can be made here, or here. Thanks! Joshua Ingram 02:39, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Good question! Those sorts of boxes are all listed at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Stats and tools. There is no automatically updating version that I have seen. This one
Code | Result | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
{{Template:User contrib|N|Example User}} |
|
Usage |
is the one most people use, but it must be updated manually. It links to the stats tool, so you can check the number of edits. The colours change as the number of edits go up! - Ahunt (talk) 10:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's not currently possible to auto-update your editcount - the closest you could come is running a bot to do it, and that would be a definite no-no. Personally, I keep my current editcount (usually to the closest thousand) on a subpage of mine which is then transcluded into {{user contrib}}, like so:
{{user contrib|{{User:Dinoguy1000/editcount}}|Dinoguy1000}}
resulting in:

- Just in case you didn't know, you can find out how many edits you currently have from your preferences (this comment will be #10,693 for me ;) ). 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000) 17:03, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Is there one that gives the exact amount of edits? And thank you both, by the way... Joshua Ingram 17:05, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, {{User contrib}} gives exactly the number of edits you provide to it - so you can have it display your edit count to the nearest thousand edits, as I do, or you can have it exact down to a single edit (but keep in mind that if you spend too much time and edits just updating your edit count, it could get you in trouble - WP:Editcountitis is pretty serious, even if it's of the "point and laugh" variety. =) 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000) 17:51, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'm not asking the right question. Is there a userbox that automatically updates your edit count? Sorry, I should have said that first. Joshua Ingram 17:58, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- As I said above, there is no such userbox, and it's not possible - it would require a magic word/variable along the lines of
{{NUMBEROFUSEREDITS:Example}}
, but it's not gonna happen because it's ultimately a pointless statistic that serves no purpose beyond bragging rights. The closest you could come is running a bot to auto-update your count, and similar bots have been blocked in the past for being inappropriate. 「ダイノガイ千?!」(Dinoguy1000) 18:06, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry. I didn't see that post. I haven't slept in a while...Joshua Ingram 18:10, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I recently made the userbox at left, and I'm wondering what category in the gallery I should place it in. I looked through Music, but there was no category for MP3 players as far as I could see. Maybe I'm just lost; I'm sure I saw a category the other day. talkingbirds 17:35, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- It would go on the page at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Music/Music Devices - Ahunt (talk) 22:39, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks. Now, to find a different image/not have an image at all and edit it..image policies are so confusing when you look at them for the first time ^_^ talkingbirds 21:29, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Here is a userbox I created that can go in this category. GandalftheWise : Talk Page 17:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Userboxes for WikiProjects are inconsistent
|
There isn't, as far as I can see evidenced by putting them side by side (or top to bottom) any consistency to the way that people are linking from the WikiProject Userboxes. The way the following Userboxes link, and display are different, notably the United States Wikiproject which has two images in the box. What should be done? Jasonaltenburg (talk) 14:04, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well you could just accept the diversity. - Ahunt (talk) 18:48, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- Currently, that's what I'm doing :) Jasonaltenburg (talk) 15:58, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the inconsistent justification, you could always ad0 parserfunctions to consistify them on your own page. –xenotalk 18:28, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
userboxes with external links?
Is this an appropriate userbox? [redacted] Unomi (talk) 08:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Looks more like an advertisement to me - Ahunt (talk) 18:04, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- I thinks someone deleted that as a G10. As such, I've removed the reproduction of same. –xenotalk 18:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- You will find the same userbox used everywhere [this image] is. Unomi (talk) 18:17, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's beyond the scope of our project, and being discussed at a more appropriate venue here: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Other uses of the banner outside the above template –xenotalk 18:26, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- My original question still stands, would such a userbox be considered to be compatible with standing norms regarding userboxes? Unomi (talk) 18:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think there's anything prohibiting external links per se. As long as they aren't masked to look like an internal link (i.e. they don't use plainlink span) then they should be taken on a case-by-case. –xenotalk 18:53, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

What is the opinion on userboxes such as this one? Unomi (talk) 05:36, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
ITN userbox
Is there a userbox to denote how many contribution an editor has made to ITN? Something similar to the DYK userbox perhaps? Mjroots (talk) 06:18, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- If a userbox for WP:In The News did exist it would probably be listed at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Stats and tools. I don't see it there, so I presume that there isn't one, yet. Of course one can always be created! - Ahunt (talk) 12:08, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Userbox convention
I propose that we start up an userbox convention. It's an online convention where users can show off their custom userboxes. Not only will people can become more aware of the WikiProject, it'll strengthen the unity of editors, both member or non-member. If you have any question related to this convention, please respond on my talkpage. Secret Saturdays (talk to me) 17:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
