Invalid characters

Reedy, I am going to make sure i preserve the Unicode characters in the next database scan. 10% at the moment. --mboverload@ 03:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheers, that would be good! Reedy 08:37, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Marking as Finished

Obviously, if its been saved, its "finished", but what about if its been ignored...?

Some cases, like no typo's fixed, it is finished. But what about like user ignore?

Reedy 11:43, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I've added it so that it can be done on demand via plugin menu. Would it be worth having some form of timestamp as to when it was finished (checked in), and also a username? Reedy 15:43, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
I think, considering that the database isn't going to be that big, that tracking little interesting tidbits of information would be nice. Up to you. --mboverload@ 17:54, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
rev 3166, checked in time and user now logged. Will make a "stats" page in the near future. (articles complete, total articles, etc) Reedy 18:48, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Recruitment

When we've got it implemented, are we going to try for a recruitment drive? Reedy 15:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

It would be a good idea if it's not going to be implemented directly into the AWB interface. Otherwise no one will know about it. --mboverload@ 17:53, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Merging

Just FYI, we cleared and restarted the DB, as some of the stats in the original import were quite skewed!

Reedy 22:51, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Where do I sign up?

I would really like to get involved in this, it sounds right up my alley. I have AWB but I have no idea what an SVN version is or how I'd get my hands on one. Is this gonna be released in future versions of AWB or something, or is it an optional extra? --Closedmouth (talk) 07:27, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Just add your name to the list. Easiest way to get a SVN version, is to visit [1] and download the one with the largest number. Its included as a plugin, and will be included with future AWB release, but as with all plugins, its up to the individual user whether they want to use it. As long as you follow the procedure listed, you wont go far wrong! Reedy 17:26, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Awesome, got that all setup and ready, but I have a problem with the plugin. When I try to load the TypoScan plugin, it loads the Yahoo search plugin instead :-/ Any idea why that would be happening? --Closedmouth (talk) 03:48, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Um, okay, it seems I have the Yahoo search dll in the TypoScan directory, just with the name changed to "TypoScan.dll".[2] Happens when I download either version listed on your site. --Closedmouth (talk) 05:11, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Lol, thanks. Fixed as of rev 3254. Uploaded to snapshot site Reedy 09:22, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Excellent. It's always nice to know I'm not losing my mind. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:04, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

No Find And Replace Changes 101

...?

Shouldnt that be a subset reason, not a reason for it to have skipped..?

Reedy 12:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. Its mboverload... Reedy 12:13, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
WHUT --mboverload@ 15:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Same articles

I keep getting the same four articles at the top of the list every time I make one:

I'm guessing it has something to do with them being redirects. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:10, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Also I think I broke something because now it won't upload my finished articles. It just says "Uploading 96 blah blah", and then doesn't do anything. Does it cache the stats when I close AWB? --Closedmouth (talk) 14:13, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Yup, its a bit hard to cater for the redirects unfortunately (or at least, keep a track that they've changed), but it may be doable. As for the 2nd bit, theres been some changes to the frontend and backend code. Grab a newer svn snapshot to get the client side updates. Reedy 15:49, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, didn't notice the new snapshot. Unfortunately it doesn't cache the stats, so I guess I've lost those 96 articles for good. You might want to look into some sort of caching procedure in case of a sudden loss of internet connection or some other bullshit like that. A way to submit those redirects manually would be good, too, although I'm sure you've thought of that already. Anyway, thanks for this, it's a brilliant idea and well executed, keeps me occupied for hours on end (although I wish people would mark intentional misspellings, how the fuck am I supposed to know Rasberry was spelt like that on purpose?? Bah.) --Closedmouth (talk) 14:12, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
I've marked those as finished now, it stops you getting 4 you cant do anything with it. Reedy 16:32, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Making it save them accross sessions wouldnt be too difficult... Just for ease, could be added onto the normal settings file, and loaded/saved from there... We do need to do something about redirects anyway 17:34, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to be a bother, but it's stopped uploading again. :( --Closedmouth (talk) 07:50, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Still occuring? Havent really had chance to look at it, been busy IRL. (Rjwilmsi has uploaded fine... Have uploaded a new svn snapshot, though, i dont think anything program wise has changed) Reedy 17:13, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Yep, working again, thanks. --Closedmouth (talk) 08:11, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Just tested. It is uploading, it just wasnt knowing it was successful due to a minor logic error. rev 3280. That revision now caters for redirecs Reedy 20:09, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

great work so far

I was on holiday for the first two weeks in August and was very pleasantly surprised that in that time TypoScan has become an operational project. I thought it was just a pipe dream, perhaps there should be links/invitations to it from the WP:AWB/T pages. Well done to all those involved. I also posted to ask whether there is documentation on the Typos tab in AWB? I don't really understand how the typos appearing in 'on this page' are determined, and why there are so many with all no changes? And would it be possible to highlight the ones with changes as that's what needs to be checked in the article? Thanks Rjwilmsi 07:05, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Funnily, we had a working project within 24 hours or so of Mboverload asking me about it on IRC... Then its just been developed and improved between Max and myself. Does need some bits fixing/tweaking/improving, and making multiproject, but other than that, it's pretty much there (Redirect handling would be a good addition). MaxSem has done something with the regex statistics. There isnt any documentation currently, but presumably there should be a few lines written up as to what it represents... Reedy 17:11, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Also, advertising would be good! Reedy 20:14, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions for improvements

Per my above comments, I'm very impressed so far with how the TypoScan project is progressing. However, I have a few suggestions for small improvements that could be made:

  • highlight rows where 'total' equals 'no change', as these are typo rules that need to be amended (maybe in colour, or by putting some sort of warning symbol alongside them)
    • This one isnt actually a typoscan item, its in core AWB. Colou?r would be easier than putting an icon, however, IIRC an icon can be easily added for the first col. Colour such as yellow would make sense? Seeing as yellow tends to mean warnings for things... On the current page rules, or the total? Or both? (both seems to make sense) Reedy 15:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
    • Both is done due to it being a common custom List View Item - rev 3283 Reedy 20:29, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
  • display a TypoScan timer to remind the user how long they have left to work on the articles they have 'checked out'
    • Can be done nice and easily. Where would be a good place to display this? (About box would be one, but its maybe just a bit out of the way for general usage) Reedy 15:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
  • (if possible) display the typo rule name alongside the find expression, since some of the regex expressions don't easily identify what typo is being fixed
    • Should be fairly simple, depending on whats saved etc (i cant remember straight off whether the name is just used during setting up the regexes).. Would need to check where Max picks things up to bring them across for the regex etc Reedy 15:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
  • (if possible) on double-clicking a typo rule with changes found, highlight the first instance changed in the diff view above

Thanks Rjwilmsi 14:20, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the yellow highlighting. I got to see it on this edit even though the typo marked in yellow ("(?!\bEn(?:ban|barr?|bridge|mund)\b)\b(E|e)n(p[a-gijkm-z]|m[b-df-hj-np-z]|b[a-df-z])\B") was the one that made the change. It doesn't appear in the edit summary either. What's going on there, some other bug? Rjwilmsi 22:38, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
I would prefer that the timer be in the about box. Otherwise people, esp OCD people like me, will feel pressured, like they are against the clock. It should only be displayed when a user specifically asks for it. --mboverload@ 22:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Also, I don't think it would hurt us to expand the window to 3 hours? --mboverload@ 22:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds fine to me on both accounts. Its not like we're fighting over a few hundred or something! Reedy 15:06, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
rev 3286 - 2 to 3 hours now, uploaded to server aswell. Reedy 15:10, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Checkout Time

What are we wanting (to be displayed on the about box), time of checkout? Or time until this checkout expires? Or both? Reedy 15:16, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Anyone, yes, no? Reedy 18:35, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd like a countdown timer. Rjwilmsi 18:40, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Done! rev 3301 Reedy 20:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

No typo fixes 1428

Is this because dbscanner looks in wikimarkup and other places that AWB is smart enough not to? I can't understand how this number can be so high =0 --mboverload@ 22:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, that and the fact that the db dump you scanned against must be at least a month old now – typos get fixed in the meantime. Rjwilmsi 23:31, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Hmm.. Might be worth looking at patching and updating the DBScanner to work more like AWB with the typo's. But then again, im sure it does... Reedy 15:05, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it goes through the same methods for regextypofix Reedy 15:19, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Entranched??

Why on earth does it keep throwing up the "correction" of entrenched to entranched?? Maybe I'm blind but I can't see it anywhere in the list. Very odd. --Closedmouth (talk) 13:30, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, my fault – a change I made broke it. JHunterJ has now fixed it. Rjwilmsi 17:11, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Ah, fair enough, those regexes are easy to mess up. --Closedmouth (talk) 08:06, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Not very interesting

Edits: 40, Ignored: 260! I'm mostly just sitting here watching the program churn through lists. Has someone fixed a crapload of typos without reporting it to the server? It's rather boring. --Closedmouth (talk) 09:22, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

The TypoScan list is based on a database dump at least a month old now, so yes, many typos will have been fixed. There's a feature request to have AWB do some sort of pre-parsing mode whereby a second thread automatically removes articles based on the skip criteria. We will probably need this feature to make TypoScan a viable project. I suggest you vote for it on the AWB feature request page. Rjwilmsi 11:07, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I couldn't find the section you were mentioning. I was just a little shocked at the sudden massive increase in fixed typos, it seemed to come from nowhere. --Closedmouth (talk) 06:39, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
It's this feature request. Rjwilmsi 07:35, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
My last was 74 edits, 26 ignored.. Reedy 20:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

This feature will be included in AWB version 4.5, hopefully to be released within a week. Rjwilmsi 14:55, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Maintenance

TypoScan is offline for a bit whilst we move it from my hosting, to the WMF Toolserver under Max's account

An updated SVN snapshot will then be released, and a http redirect put in place to catch any straggling requests/plugins

Reedy 19:50, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

v 0.7 30, 506; I've already done 3,200

The CD version includes 30,506 articles without dupes. I've already typo/scanned 3,200+ 5152 of them. Will make & share lists and coordinate efforts if others are interested. Ling.Nut (talkWP:3IAR) 22:45, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh, the whole, original v 0.7 list (minus dupes, but including the ones I've already checked) is in my user space (slow to load) here Ling.Nut (talkWP:3IAR) 22:47, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Idea

If the typo is in the article's title, ignore it. E.g., Chris Noth, James Youll Turnbull, Steve Heighway, some others that I can't remember at the moment. Would that even work? It's just an idea, I have no idea if it's even remotely viable. --Closedmouth (talk) 15:21, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's already been raised as a feature request for AWB. Rjwilmsi 16:32, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Damn, I'm not very good at this. --Closedmouth (talk) 17:10, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
This feature will be included in AWB version 4.5, hopefully to be released within a week. Rjwilmsi 14:54, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

slight bug

The article "d:tour 1997 Live at Southampton" causes AWB to go into an infinite loop due to it trying to pull up a dictionary link. To pull the article up, you have to use "d-tour 1997 Live at Southampton". So this any any similar articles should either be removed from the db or have their :s changed to -s. Thanks --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Activity?

Is anyone active in this project? I just used the TypoScan plugin and checked 300 articles. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 16:29, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I just started again... --mboverload@ 03:12, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Finished?

It looks like we've gone through all the articles that were in the database. Will there be another scan to load some more? --Auntof6 (talk) 08:35, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

You'd better poke Reedy. I doubt Wikipedia has run out of typos ;) Rjwilmsi 11:36, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, I tried, but got no response. I supposed it's not critical, but do you know a better way to get Reedy's attention? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:54, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
What's going on? Is there no TypoScan anymore? —bender235 (talk) 14:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
How do we get this project back on track? GoingBatty (talk) 15:19, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Yea, Wikipedia has around 100,000 pages with typos on. Can the complete list of article be reloaded? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 13:57, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

There's nothing we can do here. I could inform only two of the developers by e-mail because lead developer Reedy didn't enable his e-mail facility. And since you all said Reedy wasn't responding I didn't bother. I have left {{YGM}} templates too. And only MaxSem has responded (see here.)--Ankit MaityTalkContribs 06:30, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks to Reedy, there is now a new set of articles in the TypoScan database. Happy typo fixing, everyone! GoingBatty (talk) 02:54, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Reedy. Almost forgot how to do this; plugin/load/typoscan.dll then can choice typoscan as a source on the makelist. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 14:16, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Questions

I asked the following questions on Reedy's talk page, but didn't receive any response:

  • After processing several hundred articles using TypoScan, any idea why I'm not showing up on the list of users at tools:~awb/typoscan/?
  • Should the "Number of Never Checked Out Articles" in the Overview equal the "Number of Articles" less "Number of Ever Checked Out Articles"? (Right now it's 0).

Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:36, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Many times it doesn't save. Not sure why, I guess that after much time using AWB memory corruption occurs and then it cannot complete. I find that checking in small section of about 100 articles(then exit and restart AWB) is more effective then doing a thousand or so, small sections is also faster to check. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 15:09, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Another thing I found is if you logout of Wikipedia with the browser it seems to effect the AWB session so that things won't save. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 15:15, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Some recommendations

Some tips or recommendations to consider

  • Do maximize your screen viewing area. This speeds up your ability to make a decision.
  • Do become familiar with pre-parse mode (tools Options =>Use pre-parse mode), can save you much time and give you a chance to go make a coffee while still scanning.
  • Be aware and use where necessary {{Not a typo}} (or it's name sakes {{as written}}, {{Proper name}}, {{typo}}), and {{lang}}. Long term you don't want to go over false positives again and again, nor leave others with the same issue.
  • Do NOT use skip when 'Only white space is changed', it's tempting to think of white space as unimportant and ignore(I did for weeks), but for example life long → lifelong, none the less → nonetheless, closeby → close by, alongwith → along with, Robert DeNiro → Robert De Niro are white space changes encountered. Also currently about 20-25% are white space typos, numerically not to be stiffed at.
  • General fixes could be on or off, but realise it's slower to view changes when general fixes are on as scrolling can take a while, also infrequently you will encounter a general fix issue.
  • If your doing big runs, like 5000+ articles at a time, consider using two (or more) instances of AWB, one running pre-parse mode and the other you are manually checking and saving on.
  • Debug versions of AWB store in the folder you run AutoWikiBrowser.exe the files profiling.txt and log.txt. Delete those files periodically, perhaps daily as they slow down your typo checking.
Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 10:01, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
I didn't know pre-parse mode existed! Thanks for the tip mate. --Breno talk 10:03, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Possible bug

When I go to load the list, it's not loading any articles. It was working yesterday but seems to have stopped today. Inks.LWC (talk) 23:42, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

I have the same issue today and did two days ago. I think it will correct itself tomorrow. Not sure why this happens, maybe a daily limit? Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 23:44, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
When I tried to load a list for the first time today, I got only one page: List of Atlas Shrugged characters. GoingBatty (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Me four. Glad to know others are having this problem. hajatvrc @ 00:20, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Just retried. Nothing. Are we out of articles? Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 00:31, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
According to Reedy's talk page, he is working on a new database. Should be completed soon. hajatvrc @ 01:00, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

TypoScan - How?

OK, I'm lost. Selecting TypoScan and Make List brings up nothing. What to do? RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 00:33, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

During 2012 all available articles known to TypoScan was complete and since then no one has been able to update with a new list of article with typos. I've manually created a list of article - see the section above although it's a poor substitute for the real thing. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 00:46, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I saw that. But I'm not doing something right. I selected Links on page(blue links only) then put Wikipedia:WikiProject TypoScan/Articles with typos 3 in the Links On field, then pressed Make List, and then Start. The pages began to process, colored themselves green, but no errors were found. Dunno what I'm doing wrong; could use any help guidance offered. Thanks. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 00:50, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Let's break it down. After you press make list do you get a list of several hundred articles fill the box on the left? Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 00:57, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
On the bottom right does it have your user name in green? If not then you are required to login via File->Log in/Profiles. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:01, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
That would be a "yes" to both questions. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 01:03, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
On the options tab in bottom half of screen ensure you have a tick next to Enable Regex TypoFix. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:04, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
When you click start on the start tab an article will be processed. As you indicate green above I'm think you have pre-parsing on. That is a pre-check which will mark matches green. As you wish to check/save then you will require pre-parsing off; toggle it in 'Options' menu. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:08, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
OK. What does pre-parsing do, then? Something one should use, or not use? RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 01:13, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Right now you don't want to use it. It's a pre-check, for example to pre-check the articles you have listed match the criteria of having a typo, but in the case of Wikipedia:WikiProject TypoScan/Articles with typos 3 it's already been pre-checked(back in October 2012). When you check random articles where only 1 in 100 or so will have a typo then it's time efficient to pre-parse the list before you start or pre-parse it in sections as you go. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:19, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I understand now. Thank you. Can I trouble you for one more question: How to set AWB to not alert for dead links? RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 01:24, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean not highlight it as an error? In Options you can toggle 'Highlight errors' off and then nothing shows as an error(that it how I use it). Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:31, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I'll try that. My basic beef is that {{dead link}} isn't the sort of thing that can be easily fixed with a tool like AWB, shouldn't show up in the alert box at all. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 01:40, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I don't think the alerts can be changed (I just ignore them), you might be better to ask that over at WT:AWB. I imagine that a symtematic change to a url, such as a domain change would be the type of task done in AWB. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 01:43, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
OK, thanks for all your help, best wishes. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 01:48, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Articles with typos

While TypoScan is down. In AWB you can use "Source: Links on page(blue links only)" with Wikipedia:WikiProject_TypoScan/September_2012 to load them up. It's about 50,000 articles which all report a typo in AWB in the last 24 hours. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 03:00, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks for coming up with the list. Inks.LWC (talk) 03:01, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Sun Creator for keeping the typo fixing dream alive! Out of curiosity though, how is this list generated? Are you running typo fixes in pre-parse mode in AWB over a database dump or something? --Breno talk 09:55, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that;'s what I did. Started with a list from before and re-checked it and added more based on new rules matched on a database dump. I have an update - let me repost more. Formatting the output is awkward and hence I've not finish posting them. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 19:39, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, how long did it take to run through the database dump? Shadowjams (talk) 02:27, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Maybe a few hours for each rule tops. I just checked the most recently added rules(several dozen) to WP:AWB/T. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) 20:37, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
I've started running list #14 on AWB. As the TypoScan plugin will not report back and track these bluelinks lists, for now it would be best to flag if any lists are currently in use by members, to save doubling-up. --Breno talk 07:29, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Based on this recent bug fix, you may want to go through those lists again. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:27, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

I went through from the start of the lists today and committed about 600 edits so a few of the lists will probably need doing again. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 18:16, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Typoscan being worked on

TypoScan is being worked on to get it running at Wikimedia Labs. Work has just started, so no ETA. Cross fingers that it gets done. Bgwhite (talk) 07:23, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

@Bgwhite: Any updates for us? Also the main page should probably be edited to make it clear that TypoScan isn't functional at the moment. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 16:09, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
@Jamesmcmahon0: Last I heard a run had been made and it just needed to be uploaded. I'll try and contact one of the people involved. I haven't been around much the past few weeks, but I'm getting back into the saddle again. I'll see what I can do to make a run and upload it. Bgwhite (talk) 06:43, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
@Bgwhite: It's been a while, any news? Alternatively, I'd be happy to help if there's anything needed (same username at wikitech). —Darkwind (talk) 16:13, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

@Faizan: that's because TypoScan is currently not in operation. If you'd like to fix some typos, please see my message below. There are at present at least 25,000 articles that could use a checkup, with more to be added as my database scan continues. —Darkwind (talk) 20:57, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

More manual typo lists

Since TypoScan still hasn't been restarted, I've taken a page from Sun Creator (t c)'s book (above) and downloaded the most recent dump (2014-05-02), using AWB's database scanner to match against the "typo" rule. The scan is about 28% done right now, and I've already found 25,000 articles which potentially have typos. If you'd like to pitch in and clean some up, you can do so at User:Darkwind/Typos. —Darkwind (talk) 20:56, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Good work! How about bringing those article lists out of the userspace and into this wikiproject :) --Breno talk 02:20, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
The short answer is that manual typo lists are technically out-of-scope for this WikiProject, which is intended to support the automatic TypoScan software -- and I really don't feel like digging around to find a more appropriate project. :) I've given blanket permission in the text of the page for people to edit these supbages in my userspace, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, for reference, the scan is complete and there are approx. 73K articles to check. —Darkwind (talk) 02:56, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Darkwind, when will the TypoScan become operational? I have exams ending in the next month and I may pick up the scanned articles. Thanks anyway! Faizan 14:23, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
@Faizan: I don't know, I'm not involved in that part of the project. All we have at the moment are the manual lists. —Darkwind (talk) 20:49, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Manual typo lists - August 2014

I've downloaded the latest database dump and scanned for typos. To reduce the false positives in the dump, I've then ran a pre-parse in the last 24 hours. If you'd like to adopt a list and help fix some typos, pop your name next to one of these :) --Breno talk 09:37, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Manual typo lists - September 2014

I've run a few more manual lists out of the latest database dump. Feel free to adopt a list by adding your signature next to it. If you'd like more run just let me know! --Breno talk 06:22, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
