Horse deaths at Churchill Downs

[edit]

Is the article about the running of the 2023 Kentucky Derby a platform to propagate deaths of horses and the failings of this industry. There's much more missing from this article which is directly associated with the race and should be added. There is a mention of the scratching of Lord Miles which I feel is acceptable but the rest questionable.Brudder Andrusha (talk) 19:49, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the comment. I have added a proposal to the talkspace that the section of the article concerning horse deaths be removed, and that expanding in the lead that the Derby was noted for its mainstream media coverage of equine deaths in the days leading up to the race. Paddington

[edit]

I've started an article for Paddington in template format. Seems no one wanted to do this even after 4 Group 1 wins. ;) I let the folks who follow British racing to continue updating. Cheers. 15:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC) Brudder Andrusha (talk) 15:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've started a talk page discussion to change the name of the article above to Whitney Stakes. I believe there is no reason to have a (NYRA) at the end of that title, as there is only one Whitney Stakes. It's my opinion there is no need for disambiguation, and the current naming is not consistent with the names of other horse racing stakes articles. I started a move discussion because I'm not sure whether or not the change would be uncontroversial. JRHorse (talk) 12:16, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks uncontroversial to me, I can't see any reason for the disambiguator and I've supported the RM. It will need someone with page mover rights to move the article as Whitney Stakes redirects to the (NYRA) one - I could have done that, but now the RM needs to take its course. --Bcp67 (talk) 13:25, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have pagemover rights, by the way. Next time if you need that done, message me at my talkpage—I’m not editing a lot these days, but all talk page messages ping me on email and I can pop in to help. Montanabw(talk) 05:42, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

FA review for Fleetwood Park Racetrack?

[edit]

I've submitted Fleetwood Park Racetrack to WP:FAC. I wrote it more from the Bronx history side than from the horse racing side, but it may be of interest to people here. In particular, it could use some additional reviews for FAC. Thanks for taking a look. RoySmith (talk) 17:05, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work. Enjoyed reading about the track. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 09:31, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Brudder Andrusha Thank you for the kind words. Could I trouble you to leave some comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Fleetwood Park Racetrack/archive1? That would help move the review process along. RoySmith (talk) 14:04, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lines across image

[edit]

I have just updated the colours for Prix du Cadran and have ended up with two lines across the image of the third place colours. I cannot work out where they come from. Any ideas? Southdevonian (talk) 11:37, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see anything either. Maybe @JockeyColours: could take a look and see if they can fix it. --Bcp67 (talk) 13:01, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All fixed by @JockeyColours: now. Thanks! Southdevonian (talk) 23:11, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Auguste Rodin - edit war.

[edit]

Can some admin from our European group looking into the edit war between ‎Billsmith60 and a new contributor LALTBBPITP in the article about Auguste Rodin dealing with the introduction? Brudder Andrusha (talk) 16:40, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox - discussion post Breeders' Cup

[edit]

A debatable issue arose after the recent Breeders' Cup where many articles were updated with regard to the infobox of a thoroughbred. The discussion is on the Inspiral (GB) Talk page, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and deals with what is placed in the section Major wins.Brudder Andrusha (talk) 05:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox assistance request

[edit]

Hello all. I just created Desert Hero (my first racing horse article) and I was wondering if someone more experienced here on racehorse articles could look over the infobox and see if everything is in order please? I think additional info is available in the Racing Post source. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 16:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty good. I've added his record and earnings from the Racing Post, moved the years of his wins to after the races, added his sire's sire, but everything else is fine. Bcp67 (talk) 17:51, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was wondering if anyone might help to make improvements to the article about this year's Oaks and Derby-winning trainer. It appears to be in need of lots of cleanup and copy edits, not to mention that there have also been some COI issues raised on that page in the past. JRHorse (talk) 11:57, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!
JRHorse, I would be happy to help! I will take a look at it now.@JRHorse: (Annointed777 (talk)) Annointed777 Annointed777 (talk) 03:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am new to this so I am not sure exactly how to do this. Here is a suggested opening paragraph. I will add the links and references.
Kenneth G. McPeek (born August 2, 1962) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer and bloodstock agent. McPeek is best known for winning the 2024 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Mystic Dan and the 2024 Kentucky Oaks (G1) with Thorpedo Anna, becoming the third trainer in history to sweep both races in the same year. The 2024 Kentucky Derby win also made McPeek one of only five living trainers who have won all three Triple Crown races.
McPeek won his first classic in 2002 with the 70-1 longshot Sarava in the Belmont Stakes (G1). Eighteen years later, he won the 2020 Preakness (G1) with the filly Swiss Skydiver.
As a bloodstock agent, McPeek is known for purchasing remarkable talent for modest prices at auctions. He purchased two-time Horse of the Year Curlin at the 2005 Keeneland sale for $57,000 and the 2020 Preakness winner Swiss Skydiver for $35,000.
McPeek saddled his 2,000th career winner on February 21, 2024, at Turfway Park with a first-time starter by Justify. As of July 31, 2024, he has career earnings of $126,474,936.
Please let me know if you like this and please feel free to make any changes or suggestions!!!JRHORSE(Annointed777 (talk)) Annointed777 Annointed777 (talk) 05:05, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
JRHorse and Community,
I have been working on Kenneth McPeek's page. The page says that missing template date, is this why it is so difficult to edit? I don't k=how to fix it. It takes three steps for each edit. Is there anyway to fix it? I will have this page finish and ready for you to review in the next 7 to 10 days. If you could help me fix the problem with the edits I would appreciate it. It is really slowing the process down.@JRHorse: (Annointed777 (talk) 03:05, 4 August 2024 (UTC))Annonted777[reply]

Assistance is requested in an ongoing content dispute. See Talk:Kentucky Derby#Oldest track?. I will not characterize the dispute here because I don't want to bias anyone's participation. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 21:08, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty Polly Stakes

[edit]

Hello, I propose moving the above - please see the Talk here if you'd like to chip in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Pretty_Polly_Stakes_(Ireland) Regards Billsmith60 (talk) 14:25, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pedigree template modification

[edit]

I've just noticed that the Pedigree template has been recently modified with the width of 90% removed. This squashes the pedigree information into a poorly formatted representation which just lacks clarity to the eye. I'd like to get the opinions of the project and ask the editors ‎GhostInTheMachine, MSGJ, Jonesey95 and Pppery why this modification was done without input from this project, which extensively uses this template in the articles of thoroughbred racehorses.Brudder Andrusha (talk) 16:12, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have no opinion on the width. How would anyone know to notify this project? There is no WikiProject template on the template's talk page, and the template has zero documentation explaining what is is for, how the parameters work, or anything else. If you want to be consulted, please make your presence known in the usual ways. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:23, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would think that before changing something in a template you would locate where the template is used. Why just change a parameter of a table? Who even proposed it and why? Consultation after you made the edit is like well the horse bolted before the first race...Brudder Andrusha (talk) 19:34, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Karabas

[edit]

I've created the above page for the top-class French-bred horse of the late 60s, although what's there is as much as I can accumulate at present. I found a Timeform rating of 132 for him, but punter chat has him at 126 Billsmith60 (talk) 15:33, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some categories and linked Karabas in some of his race wins. Bcp67 (talk) 20:20, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. I am Annointed777. I am very new to Wikipedia and would love to help anyone I can. I have the most knowledge in Thoroughbred trainers, jockeys, breeding and stake Races. I have owned and bred Arabian show horses so I also understand a lot about medication and injuries in horses and have been following Thoroughbred racehorses for years. I haven't started a page on my own yet, but would love to get to that point. In the meantime, I am happy to contribute, do research or help in anyway I can. I am so happy I found this group!!! Kenneth McPeek

[edit]

Hi Everyone, I think all the problems with Kennth McPeek (trainer) are fixed and it is ready for review. I am still trying to get photos from Associated Press. I also want to add Trainer Titles, should that under awards, honors or a new heading Trainer Titles? Please review the page. Once it's approved I'll start another page off the list! If someone would like to choose a trainer, jockey or horse from the US, I am happy to work on the! @WikiProjectHorseRacing: @JRHorse: @StefenTower: Stefen Tower, I pinged you because Kenneth McPeek is a horse trainer from Kentucky so I thought you might want to review it!
