@CanadianSingh1469, @Usingh0663, @Ronnie Macroni, @Twarikh e Khalsa, @Shubhdeep Sandhu, @Tawarikh Guru Khalsa, @Jujhar.pannu, @Gubeeno123, @SikhItihaas - Sat Sri Akal everyone, why don't we all coordinate our ideas, plans, activities, and projects here together to keep all our discussions streamlined and organized in one place? This is the dormant page for WikiProject Sikhism, which is considered inactive (for now). However, we can reactivate it again if collaborative activity resumes. I recommend you add yourself as a member to the WikiProject by putting your username here (in alphabetical order) and adding this talk-page and project-page to your watchlist (by clicking the star button) so we can keep up-to-date with everything going on with regards to Sikh and Punjab-related Wikipedia stuff. Wikiproject sikhism should be rebranded to wikipediawale misl lol.On a serious note i fully agree that we should attempt to revive this wiki project. We just need to find more wikipedia editors who are willing to join. Twarikh e Khalsa (talk) 16:38, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Twarikh e Khalsa Wikipediawale Misl is definitely a cooler name! Feel free to let any editors who you think may be interested in this endeavour know about this proposed revival of this WikiProject. ThethPunjabi (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All hail me the true Jatehdar. lol CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 17:24, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Panth Patshaah CanadianSingh1469 Ji! ThethPunjabi (talk) 20:56, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds Good. For all future edits, I shall announce them here. Usingh0663 (talk) 16:43, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am really focusing on Kharku’s as of late. The Khalistan Commando Force article needs some rework. Anyone willing to join? CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 17:25, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on improving the Sikhism in Japan article right now. I can help you out with the Khalistan Commando Force page afterwards if you'd like. What kind of reworking were you thinking of doing specifically? ThethPunjabi (talk) 20:55, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article is missing lots of KCF’s activities and isn’t fully updated. The history section can be greatly improved and an equipment section would be good to add. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 01:59, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this sounds great! SikhItihaas (talk) 17:33, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, everyone. I've decided to create an article about Sikhism in South Africa. Here's the link to the draft article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sikhism_in_South_Africa. Feel free to contribute to it. Reev132 (talk) 01:54, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jattlife121 - this is definitely up your alley. Thought you might be interested: Draft:Sikhism in South Africa ThethPunjabi (talk) 02:02, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, everyone. I noticed these lines on the article about Bhai Taru Singh: "When the barber attempted to do so, his hair became as strong as iron.". This statement is not backed up by any source, but I am not sure what I should do with it. What do you guys think? Reev132 (talk) 06:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Reev132 - This is gonna be hard to find a reliable source for since it is a literal miracle. Best to find a source that describes this belief held by Sikhs and alter the wording to say something along the lines of: "...his hair became as strong as iron, according to Sikh legend." MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 16:34, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Left a message on the talk page of the Nanakshahi calendar article. Please take a look at it. Reev132 (talk) 00:28, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, is there a more specific page about notability criteria for this than WP:Notability (people) - draft written by Jattlife121 - does it meet notability criteria? - (I am a new draft reviewer and this is not my strong topic area) Thanks Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 00:55, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure and for me in Sikh Circles he's a pretty notable person. Basics of Sikhi, who is the largest Sikh Youtube Channel did a whole video on him as well. He's got Schools, Hospitals, Charities named after him. Jattlife121 (talk) 01:18, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, i'm not sure how relevant this will be for you as a reviewer. But here are some videos also related to the individual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-NYyNIEveU, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTsco9_IOzU, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpcVRbRlO4w. I can use these videos as sources if you like. Especially the documentary. Jattlife121 (talk) 01:21, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response as the draft author, it is appreciated. Let's wait a few days and hopefully one of the project members will join the discussion. Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 06:42, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know this Sikh discussion channel is pretty much inactive, i've asked an active contributor @ThethPunjabi but had no response from him regarding this page creation. Jattlife121 (talk) 17:32, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryllida @Jattlife121 To be quite honest, I do not know enough about this person to make a judgement on notability. I did a search on Google Books for his name and found him mentioned in quite a few publications (whether it is in-depth enough to qualify as notable for WP can be judged by someone else). Whether there are enough sources out there covering him to make this draft qualify as an article is beyond my judgement. He seems to be a fairly well-regarded and renowned Sikh spiritual leader of the 20th century. If I was forced to make a judgement call, I would reckon he passes notability requirements. Sorry I cannot be of more help, modern Sikh history is an area I lack expertise in. ThethPunjabi (talk) 20:18, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion he is quite well known. Almost every Sikh in Punjab has heard of him especially in the Doaba area. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 23:33, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update pls Jattlife121 (talk) 02:00, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Usingh0663 Thoughts on this. Ideally would like to get this approved but up to discretion of Sikhi Wikipedia. Jattlife121 (talk) 19:13, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would definitely agree that he could serve as a credible source. From a Sikh perspective, he's studied under various Gurdevs/Ustads, particularity of the Nihang & Taksali orders (sampardaic vidya), but at a higher level he was recognized as a credible source for understanding Sikh theology (via articles, interviews, etc.) by the BBC. I definitely believe that he passes notability requirements. Usingh0663 (talk) 21:49, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Proposal At Sikhs

[edit]

Hello I don’t really know anywhere else to leave this comment so I decided to come here. A month ago a merge proposal started at Sikhs. My self, @RegentsPark and @ThethPunjabi all left comments on the topic.

It has been a month now and the topic hasn’t been closed yet. I am fairly new to Wikipedia so I did not try to do it myself, and would appreciate if someone could help me out

Thank you

Tescomealdeal1 (talk) 12:05, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Tescomealdeal1 Hello, I closed the merge proposal. You can read the instructions on the following page to learn how to close merge proposals. Cheers, ThethPunjabi (talk) 16:10, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inter-Misl Wars

[edit]

@CanadianSingh1469 @Twarikh e Khalsa @Ronnie Macroni @Tawarikh Guru Khalsa @Jattlife121 @Usingh0663 - Hey everyone, I have been thinking about how there are no articles currently covering or dedicated to the Inter-Misl Wars. The 12 Misls of the Sikh Confederacy started warring with one another near the end of the 18th century. Perhaps we can create an article about the war and the individual articles about the various battles that occurred between misls during it? Just an idea in-case you were bored and interested. I know we have a lot of other projects going on right now so this one might have to be put on the back-burner temporarily. ThethPunjabi (talk) 03:29, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, but I may not be all that helpful. I have limited knowledge about the late Misl period. I can help with finding sources if need. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 03:30, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CanadianSingh1469 Honestly, same here. It's a super confusing and complicated time period in Sikh history that is not well documented (similar problem with the time period between 1716 – 1735). ThethPunjabi (talk) 03:31, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Call it the Intra Misl Wars if you guys decide to make an article Ronnie Macroni (talk) 03:40, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CanadianSingh1469 @ThethPunjabi
It's largely confusing due to the amount of kingdoms and Sikh principalities that existed in Punjab at the time. The Sikhs were also fighting and expanding against various powers such as the Afghans,Shivalik Hill Chiefs,Local Punjabi Muslim/Hindu Chiefs and principalities,The Marathas,The Mughals,The Rohillas,Oudh State,Jats of Bharatpur, etc.I will have to do my own personal research into this time period to provide any sort of serious help. Twarikh e Khalsa (talk) 04:24, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sikhs - I am having with issue with the error appearing on this page can someone resolve this, I just updated population statistics for Portugal and its now messed up.
In regards to Inter-Misl, this is not my area of expertise unfortunately. Feel free to see some of the pages and contributions i've made to see if you need help on certain areas which may be more in-line with my strengths. Jattlife121 (talk) 16:08, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. For all the new articles, I can only really help in things like proofreading and such, as my strong suits lie more in sikh theology as opposed to history. Apologies if I won't be able to provide much. Usingh0663 (talk) 20:59, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Names of God in Sikhism

[edit]

I just created an article titled Names of God in Sikhism, analogous to the existing articles on names for God in Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Zoroastrianism. Feel free to expand the list of names that Sikhs use for God (I only published 20 such names on the article so-far). ThethPunjabi (talk) 00:03, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Could referring to Jaap Sahib be a good source? Its might give you thousands of names though, which may be too much. Usingh0663 (talk) 20:52, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Usingh0663 That's a lot of names haha. I'm not sure if we can cite primary sources like Jaap Sahib. ThethPunjabi (talk) 21:14, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Usingh0663 By the way, do you know Gurmukhi? If so, may you please add the Gurmukhi names in the table? ThethPunjabi (talk) 21:15, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Patshah, Is another name. It derives from this Padishah Jattlife121 (talk) 22:31, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i'll do that immediately Usingh0663 (talk) 00:29, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThethPunjabi By the way, you can also now use tools like Bing AI and ChatGPT to create the gurmukhi variants of words. Its extremely accurate. I can read gurmukhi, but can't type it, and this is how I edited your article Usingh0663 (talk) 00:52, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Usingh0663 That's cool! I wasn't sure how accurate and reliable they would be but I guess they're pretty good at generating Gurmukhi correctly then. ThethPunjabi (talk) 01:05, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have multiple names in mind, but I don’t think I can use the primary source. Mahan Kosh is a good for names. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 14:40, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ਭਗਉਤੀ can be added with Mahan Kosh as the source. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 14:47, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CanadianSingh1469 Thanks! Do you know what page of the Mahankosh it's found on? ThethPunjabi (talk) 19:10, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I use the online Mahan Kosh dictionary so I wouldn’t know the page. A search or two may help find it. You can also try the english version online. CanadianSingh1469 (talk) 19:37, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CanadianSingh1469 The original, first edition Mahan Kosh (April 1930) is available for viewing on Wikipedia, here is the link. It contains a lot of rare photographs taken by Kahn Singh Nabha himself of Sikh heritage sites (before Kar Seva babas got to them). I thought you may be interested in seeing it regardless. ThethPunjabi (talk) 19:51, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can we please remove old posts on this page and keep all recent ones from last year on here ? Would be good and easier way for people to communicate Sikh related pages whether its on Gurbani or the Gurus and those ideas on here. Jattlife121 (talk) 19:53, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll make an archive of the old posts. ThethPunjabi (talk) 20:01, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen user ButtahDawg has also helped a lot on Sikh Demographics. Would be great if you can help out on some pages.--Jattlife121 (talk) 17:42, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted articles

All of these articles have been deleted. Who has done this, and why? Usingh0663 (talk) 21:15, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Usingh0663 They were created by a sock puppet account and therefore were deleted as a result by the Wikipedia admins/mods. ThethPunjabi (talk) 05:04, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
