[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Windows Live Messenger. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. [1] MrOllie (talk) 22:46, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Per WP:MINOR, you shouldn't mark significant content changes as minor edits, such as in here or in here. The minor edit function only applies to small things such as typo fixes and small formatting changes.
Also, when adding content, try to attribute it to a reliable source, either one already referenced in the article or an entirely new source. There's a comprehensive information page at WP:ILC if you want to learn more. If you want any advice or have any questions feel free to visit the Teahouse. 2604:3D08:4F83:4500:2931:D2A1:369:3685 (talk) 21:34, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Usingh0663! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:55, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind email
[edit]I'd be happy to work with you to improve Sikhism-related Wiki articles. I think you did great work on improving the Sikh sects article. Just a small tidbit of advice: be careful of citations you use, it's best to use academic/scholary ones. Check out Google Books or Google Scholar if you need to find a source. You can use internet websites as sources but make sure it does not break Wiki's rules against user-generated content, check out WP:UGC for further info. Happy editing! ThethPunjabi (talk) 02:12, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I'm just a normal kid who's trying to bring more Sampradaic knowledge into the mainstream fold, and unfortunately, very few scholarly work covers this. I'll try to check out things like google scholar for future references. If you have the time, please add some better citations and remove the dumb ones I put like sikhwiki.com (or i'll just do it once I get the time lol). I had to resort to using websites like sarbloh.info, which is 60% good and 40% sus as hell (not because of the sanatan stuff, idc about that). Usingh0663 (talk) 03:16, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I believe SikhiWiki and sarbloh.info would be considered UGC and are therefore not allowed to be used as citations on Wikipedia. Just be careful in the future, I made similar mistakes when I started out on Wikipedia last year. If you have access to a school library (digital or physical), you may be able to use their system to find reliable sources. You're doing a great job, keep it up and feel free to reach out to me for any help. ThethPunjabi (talk) 03:24, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks bro. I'll replace all my citations over the course of the coming week. Usingh0663 (talk) 03:26, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Usingh0663 Another thing, I saw the images you have been uploading on Wikimedia Commons. I have to warn you that the images are likely under copyright and you used the "own work" licence. Unfortunately, these images are bound to be eventually tagged to be deleted by a patroller or admin and they will likely give you a warning. Be very careful, I honestly avoid uploading any images on Wikimedia Commons that is likely to be under copyright (which lasts for the lifetime of the original author + 70 years after their death in the majority of countries, for India it is + 60 years after their death). I look for historical artwork and photographs (or what is called 'slavish reproductions') instead to be on the safe side, using the copyright tags of PD-old , PD-art , or PD-scan to show the copyright is likely expired due to the age of the work. Just thought I'd let you know so you do not make the same mistakes I did. I was nearly banned from Wikimedia Commons for uploading copyrighted works under false licence tags when I was new, as I came across a lot of older uploads that definitely would not be allowed under the rules so I thought they enforced rules laxly (which was incorrect). I recommend reading up on copyright laws and Wikimedia Commons' rules/policies. By the way, you can upload certain copyrighted images onto English Wikipedia directly if they meet certain criteria. Take care, ThethPunjabi (talk) 00:20, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for cautioning me with your experience. I will review these images & citations as soon as possible. Thank you. Usingh0663 (talk) 12:27, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hey bro, this is just a random question. I'm a new wikipedia editor, and I'm planning on writing some articles all by scratch, but I need some help. How do I insert the Sikhism table thing onto the right side of the page? I see the same thing in your profile. Is there a guide or youtube video you can point me to learn the intricacies of editing? Thanks in advance. Usingh0663 (talk) 03:05, 11 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Usingh0663 Hey! So the Sikhism thing on the right side of Sikhism-related articles is a type of "template" called a "sidebar". To find it, click the "insert template" function whilst editing and search for "Sikhism sidebar" to insert it where you want (ideally at the top of the article). Let me know if you want me to do it for you. ThethPunjabi (talk) 00:04, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the info. I got it now :) Usingh0663 (talk) 01:46, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for finding that Sikh PA source
[edit]I’m currently being ganged-up on by users who are siding with the pro-Indian government narrative, nice to see another level-headed user who can act as a voice of reason. The blatant balance issues and bias of that article needs to be addressed. They are ignoring the points we are raising and accusing us of violating WP policies and guidelines when we dare call out their clear bias. ThethPunjabi (talk) 22:04, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- No worries. Thanks for the kind comments. I consulted a group of friends to get some sources, but I couldn't find much else sadly. We need a Khalsa Samachar 2.0 in the future. Usingh0663 (talk) 23:22, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'm currently busy writing some essays and working on other projects, so if you can, please handle the Amritpal Singh dispute. If you need manpower I can come and help, but I won't be making any other objections at the moment. Usingh0663 (talk) 23:24, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Usingh0663 One of the pro-Indian government narrative users is now claiming the Sikh Press Association is “unreliable”, quite funny. Anyways, no worries about it, it’ll be sorted out eventually. I hope you do well on your projects and essays. ThethPunjabi (talk) 01:52, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Creating New Santhiya Article
[edit]@CanadianSingh1469 @ThethPunjabi @Jattlife121 @Ronnie Macroni @Twarikh e Khalsa @Javerine - Hello all, just thought I would let you all know that i'm making a new article on Santhiya. Its still in its infancy and I have to upload a few more photos before the article can be complete, but if any of you guys want to add sections, fix typos, etc that would be much appreciated. The article needs to be way longer. Here is the link. Thanks, Usingh0663 (talk) 14:36, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Usingh0663 Looks amazing so far. I was actually contemplating creating an article on the same topic. I will add some edits to it. Great job. ThethPunjabi (talk) 14:39, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Hikayata(n) in Persian?
[edit]@CanadianSingh1469 @ThethPunjabi @Jattlife121 @Ronnie Macroni @Twarikh e Khalsa @Javerine - Hello all, apologies for this is not directly related to Wikipedia, but I looking to find PDFs, photos, manuscripts, etc, of the Hikayat Bania(n) in the original Perso-Arabic Script. I have only found Bhai Mani Singh's Dasam Granth Bir with the original Zafarnama & Hikayat in perso-arabic script, but it's akin to doctor's handwriting. Does anybody else have any resource where I can find the Hikayat in persian? Thanks Usingh0663 (talk) 22:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
