Biographies

Perhaps we should try to adhere to the Manual of Style when creating biographies. There is a biography project already in existance as well. The structure section offers an outline in the form of a template that helps ensure that all the bases are covered in the article and makes it easy to see what additional information is necessary. Use the {{subst:Biography}} to see how it works. The only thing I would add to what they have already done would be to use the following infobox template (from Template talk:Infobox Biography#How to use this template:

Signatures in announcement

I do not see how my signature in an announcement of somebody else's article serve any usefull purpose. Thus, I indend to sign only announcements of my own articles and/or my opinions about articles abakharev 04:33, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mainpage appearence of the articles announced here?

I usually have been trying to announce all Main Page references to the Portal articles in the URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT section. This include WP:DYK, current events, FA. The announce sits here during the appearance of the article on the main page (for WP:DYK it is usually 12..15 hours). When the article is removed from the main-page, I have been removing the announcement (obviously there is a lag sometime). There are two reasons to announce references of the articles:

Appearance of the article on the main-page is a kind of recognition of the collective work of our Portal's editors. People who edited the article might want to see it on the main page while it is here. Thus, announcements are suppose to lift our morale.
Articles referred on the main-page page are highly visible and often attract a lot of editors. Among them maybe vandals and good-intentioned people without proper knowledge of Russia, who made silly mistakes. Thus, it is worth to monitor the article while it is referred on the main-page.

On the other hand, obviously these announcement may distract the users from more important announcements and they make already long article even longer. I believe these are the reasons User:Mikkalai asks to stop these announcements. Obviously decisions either way, would not be a catastrophe.
