Lent
[edit]I've attempted to make a clarification at Lent#Oriental Orthodoxy, specifically, regarding 55 fasting days vs. 40 days of Lent in the Ethiopian church. (Here's a list of the specific edits: [1].) I've added some sources along with it. However, as a result of my efforts, the section now leans more heavily toward Lent as practiced in Ethiopian Orthodoxy. Presumably it is the same in Eritrean Orthodoxy; I am not sure at all about the other churches. I thought I'd leave a note here in case anyone else wishes to offer further clarification regarding the other churches (or correction, if necessary, for what I've already written). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:20, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Pew report
[edit](Cross-posted to Talk:Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church) This might be of interest to the WikiProject: "Orthodox Christianity in the 21st Century" (PDF), released by the Pew Research Center on 2017-11-08. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:11, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Honorifics and "Mar Thoma"
[edit]Hi, I have been going through articles and removing honorifics from them. This includes "Mar", "Mor", "Maran Mar", and "Moran Mor". However, I have come to a quandary. "Mar Thoma" is a common appellation in the Malankara Church, and I am told it's not strictly an honorific, but part of a name. There are Metropolitans named "Mar Thoma I, II, III..." and there are many more whose name includes "Mar Thoma" or even spelled "Marthoma". I realize we can't just knock out "Mar" and leave "Thoma" in these cases. Could it be left intact by Wikipedia's guidelines? What to do? Elizium23 (talk) 01:40, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: Although it's been moved back-and-forth a few times, "Thoma I" should be "Mar Thoma I" (and "Thoma II" at "Mar Thoma II" etc.), according to the #Syriac bishops guideline in place at WP:NCCL. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:45, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

List of maphrians
[edit]There was a recent POV edit war at List of maphrians, and we need an expert on the subject to discern what was correct. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 22:04, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Assistance needed for Draft:Joint Commission Of The Theological Dialogue Between The Orthodox Church And The Oriental Orthodox Churches
[edit]I need some help expanding the Unofficial Meetings and Official Dialogues section of this draft page.
Also, I'm certain the references for the four official dialogues have a primary source, however I can only seem to find secondary sources online. Perhaps the originals are offline and/or in Greek? Contagious Owl (talk) 01:46, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York and New England
[edit]Would some members from this WikiProject mind taking a look at Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York and New England and assessing it? It was created back in 2015, but nobody created a corresponding article talk page or added any WikiProject banners. Since Coptic Orthodox Church is listed a falling within this project's purview, I thought this would be a good place to ask about the diocese's article as well. The content about scandals might be needed to be closely examined to see whether BLP is being violated. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:53, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi again, @Marchjuly - I would love to take a look. Unfortunately, it seems this project is a tad inactive... BiscuitsToTheRescue 19:54, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
