New Potential Tasking

Having been working on some of our articles, I have noticed that some of these also (rightly so) stray into other WikiProjects as well. I have noticed that several of these also rate all articles in their project, so that quality of an article can be determined quickly, and also to make it easier for editors who want to edit lesser quality articles. However, not all of our articles are covered under these other WikiProjects, and as such I believe we should set up a similar system. What does everyone else think about this? Confusion about de-grading

Can a recipient who has been conferred with a higher grade (Commander) be again conferred with a lower grade (Chevalier) for the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres? This is the query at the reference desk. Jay (talk) 07:35, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

VC vs GC (again!)

To those interested, there is a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#VC vs GC re whether or not the Victoria Cross and the George Cross are of 'equal precedence' (regardless of their position in any Order of Wear). Award category notices

Hi all. I've recently been reminded of a problem we have with people misinterpreting "Category:Recipients of X award" as being intended as a comprehensive list of recipients, and either writing to complain about apparent omissions or trying to add them directly.

Need a bit of help

I was creating a ribbon bar for the Donald Conroy article based on this photo and i cannot figure out what the ribbon on the bottom row next to the UN Korea ribbon is. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks--Looper5920 (talk) 19:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Assessments

Quick UK question

Couldn't find an answer to this elsewhere. The Queen's Birthday Honours have been published, but does that mean people who have acquired honours (particularly e.g. knights and dames) are allowed to use their titles straight away, or do they have to wait until the ceremony? I understand they can use their titles straight away, as the publication in the London Gazette is the official notification and authority. The ceremony may not take place for many months. MilborneOne (talk) 20:04, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

I have made a small extention to the SGM article, but I am new to this and I haven't quite got the references put in properly. I also had one of my links automatically deleted, but I've put it back in as it contains good, detailed information which is verified elsewhere. Make list of First Order class

Does someone know how to make a category for, First Order class Grand Cross and Commander 1st Degree, Order of the Dannebrog.

Then make a list like the List of Grand Commanders of the Dannebrog. (Ice Explorer (talk) 13:51, 16 November 2009 (UTC))

Distinguished Service Order

User:Xdamr has unilaterally moved Distinguished Service Order to Distinguished Service Order (United Kingdom) and turned the original page into a disambiguation page, citing this project's naming guidelines. However, this hasn't taken account of the fact that hundreds, if not thousands of incoming links to the DSO page expect it to be about the British/Commonwealth decoration. Rather than trying to fix all these disambiguation links, it seems to me to make sense to move the disambiguation page to Distinguished Service Order (disambiguation) and move the UK page back to its original location, per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The article says that the DSC is awarded to British citizens only. However, my great-grandfather (who had fought in WW1 with the Italian army, allied with Britain) received a DSC from King George V. The colours are also different: red and light blue. --Amhainn (talk) 14:25, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you've put it under this header, the Distinguished Service Order and Distinguished Service Cross are separate things - which do you actually mean? The ribbon of the DSO is red and blue, and might be awarded to army officers, the DSC is a naval award (or more accurately these days, for actions at sea). Usually there is some provision in the statutes or regualtions governing the award which makes provision for what strictly speaking are honorary awards to allied personnel (these are not gazetted in the same way as substantive awards), though this may not be specifically spelt out in the articles at present. Dutch knighthoods

A while back, somebody depopulated the Category:Dutch knights, removing baseball players Sidney Ponson, Calvin Maduro, and Gene Kingsale, all of whom have received the Order of Orange-Nassau, in the grade Knight. The edit summary said "A decoration is not a knighthood." Soon afterward, the Category:Dutch knights was deleted for being empty.

Can anyone clarify whether it is correct to refer to members of the Order of Orange-Nassau, in the grade Knight, as "Dutch knights"? Thanks. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 05:39, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
