Navbox builder script
[edit]<brainstorming> A script that pulls out the content of a category and buids a navbox from it could be useful. Could also be tricky, and would have to be told how many levels to go down the rabbit hole or it might not get back this week. The product would have to be human inspected and probably in most cases have most of the content deleted as not relevant, but worth a look, I think. Maybe each time it is ready to look at a subccategory it should ask for confirmation [include/skip], and maybe after it has listed a subcategory there shoud be another retrospective [include/skip] option.</brainstorming> · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 04:47, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- One possible approach here is to build a tool to place hidden tags pointing to categories. Then the category harvester comes along and reads those tags, replacing the current content in a particular section (the previous fetch) with the current membership of the category specified in the tag in that section. JL-Bot uses a similar approach with maintaining Recognized content sections.

- You place a tag in the form of a standard-formatted hidden comment before and after the location you want the material to go. JL-Bot tags look like this:
<!-- Start of content generated by JL-Bot --> <!-- End of content generated by JL-Bot -->
- Naturally, tags for placing category members would include the category name, so that the bot or script would know where to get the content. — The Transhumanist 23:27, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- OK, I have used that before. It seems to work well enough for some applications. Categories in general tend to be a bit less predictable regarding content than some of the more specialised maintenance categories. I don't know if this would be sufficient filtering to get generally usable lists. I suspect that most of the time some human oversight will be necessary. Could still be a useful tool. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 09:29, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!
[edit]A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Wikidata external IDs in Wikipedia
[edit]Dear Project Members,
I proposed a new template which integrates Wikidata external IDs in Wikipedia to channel in reliable sources as further readings - please weigh in on the idea if you have the time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)?fbclid=IwAR1jjICvpWSSSqYwzT9IsSjMJxfZ7-vLoGjE2U4BB_zPVTg8EJSQ0qylqHQ#A_new_use_for_Wikidata_external_IDs_in_Wikipedia_(template)

A new navbox
[edit]I understand that this wikiproject is probably dead, but I'm posting here in case it pops up in a watchlist of an active editor.
I've just created my first navbox for articles – {{Certification marks}} – on the basis that I would've found one existing to have been useful to me. But my limitations on internal Wikipedia stuff (after about 10 years editing here, I think, I fear they're completely permanent) mean I have no idea at all about how to do the [template]/Documentation bit or how to categorise the navbox or the like. Is there a very simple guide (for I am a bear of very little brain) to how to go about doing this? — Trey Maturin has spoken 18:24, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hey @Trey Maturin, I just added a simple noinclude to provide categorization area. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 00:07, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie, @Trey Maturin, I am reactivating this WikiProject. for now, we can consider it to be semi-active. I have created several prominent navboxes, so utilizing this page seems like a good idea which might be helpful to our community. thanks. also tagging @CaptainEek, just for the purpose of keeping a prominent editor and admin in the loop. thanks.
