Hotel Tuller

The article Hotel Tuller has been proposed for deletion at Articles for Deletion. Would someone with some local knowledge care to contribute to the debate and argue as to its notability or otherwise? - DustFormsWords (talk) 05:56, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Done. A powerful argument is that the Hotel Tuller has an entry in the National Park Service's Historic American Buildings Survey. Does Metro Detroit consist of just the MSA or the entire CSA?

Would it be acceptable to add articles relating to the Metro Detroit CSA (as opposed to just the MSA), such as articles in Genessee, Monroe, and Washtenaw counties? Should those articles also be included in Category:Metro Detroit and be tagged with {{portal|Metro Detroit|Late_model_Ford_Model_T.jpg}}? —№tǒŖïøŭş4lĭfė♫♪ 23:37, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

The reason why I selected the MSA boundaries is because I intended to make this mainly about the Detroit area itself - The definition stated here is "is that of a core area containing a substantial population nucleus, together with adjacent communities having a high degree of economic and social integration with that core" - With a CSA the definition here is: "Combined Statistical Areas, which are aggregates of adjacent metropolitan or micropolitan statistical areas that are linked by commuting ties" - The task force was intended to cover only the Detroit area, and not, say, the adjacent Ann Arbor area or other adjacent areas

Tag detroit=yes

I added Michigan and Detroit tags to M-102_(Michigan_highway) but they were removed (reason given: it's already part of WP:MSHP). I can't tag it detroit without adding the Michigan tag.

Is it important to add the Detroit tags? Are there tools that make it easier for task force members to give more attention to the tagged articles?

List of mayors of Detroit

I just finished off a little project filling out the List of mayors of Detroit, so that all the mayors are blue-linked to at least start-class articles, each has a short blurb (fully cited) on the list page, party affiliations are filled in, and as many pictures as I could find are included. I've gotten as far as I could, and would particularly like it if other people would take a look, do some edits, and hopefully scrounge up a few more images. Detroit Metropolitan Area

Would the city of Southfield be included as part of the Detroit project even though it is part of Oakland County? Several TV and radio stations that serve the City of Detroit area are actually based and transmit from facilities in Southfield and I'd like to add information but not if it violates this project's rules. 71.43.67.115 (talk) 18:49, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

The Detroit Task Force describes itself as a platform for improving articles in both Detroit-proper and the metropolitan area, which extends into Oakland County. So yes, I believe it should be included as part of the project. Kivati (talk) 00:13, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Template colors

I have noticed that there is a wide variety of colors used for the templates in Category:Michigan navigational boxes. Many are some variation of an aqua blue, like Template:Theatre in Detroit. Some are a combination of the default color used by Template:navbox and some gainsboro color, like Template:Michigan railroads. Some are green, like Template:Protected Areas of Michigan and Template:Parks in metropolitan Detroit. Some are cyan like Template:National Register of Historic Places in Michigan. Some are a gold color, like Template:Detroit Neighborhoods. Others just use the default, like Template:Michigan sports and Template:Michigan cities and mayors of 100,000 population. Now, I understand that parks are green, and the NRHP project has decided that their templates are cyan, but I don't understand the rationale for the other colors. I propose that we should use the default color, unless there is a strong reason not to use it. The advantage of doing this is that it (1) reduces color clashes between neighboring navboxes, (2) reduces the chance of a color rainbow at the bottom of the page, (3) allows the user to override the default using a personalized CSS file, since the navbox color is set by the style sheet, MediaWiki:Common.css. Inflation template

For people who wish to show how much value Detroit houses lost, use the inflation template. (${{inflation|USD|2000000|2009|r=2}} in today's money) is an example. USD is the currency, the 2000000 is the amount of the currency, the year is the current year of the currency, and r=2 means that two decimal points will show.

So when you quote journalists about how much a house was worth in 1965 versus how much it's worth in 2012, this template will help show how much value the house gained or lost. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:13, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Photos requested

I was putting together a category of images on Detroit industry at WikiCommons - and found a distinct lack of images of current businesses/factory/plants in Detroit proper. There are old images and abandoned/repurposed building images but not much showing activity in Detroit today. Jefferson North Assembly Plant, Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly, Better Made, La Jalisciense, Detroit Salt, etc. Also the Michigan solar energy article could use a good image and two of the larger installations are in Metro Detroit at Ford Warren and GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly. Renaming historic districts

Hello all Detroit-interested Wikipedians! I am making an effort to rename many of the historic districts in Detroit that are not commonly referred to as XXX Historic District. (For example, the Greektown Historic District is nearly always referred to as simply Greektown.) For cases like this, I would like to remove Historic District from the article title per WP:COMMONNAME. Additionally, I would like to add the . . . , Detroit qualification onto the districts that have homonymous districts in other cities. Who wants to help build History of the Middle Eastern people in Metro Detroit ?

Who wants to help build History of the Middle Eastern people in Metro Detroit? It is there to describe the history and aspects Arab and Chaldean people in the region.

I combined both Arabs and Chaldeans in the same article (using the title "Middle Eastern people") since some statistics group them together and some figures refer to Iraqis but don't have info on which ones are Arab and which ones are Chaldean. At the same time the sources make it clear that many Chaldeans do not consider themselves to be Arab so this article must also distinguish them. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:31, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Request for photos in Hamtramck for Polish Wikipedia article

When anyone has time, are you able to take photos in Hamtramck? I listed some requests at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Michigan/Detroit. The most important ones are the school photos, particularly of Hamtramck Public Schools. When I asked a Polish editor if he could make a Polish article on Hamtramck Public Schools, he expressed interest and asked if there were photos. While there aren't any yet, it would be nice if there were some.

I have requests for Highland Park too but it's okay if you don't want to do them at this time (especially if you don't want to go to Highland Park). If you do have time/are willing to do this, that would be great.

If you want to write about Metro Detroit on other language Wikipedias, you may contribute to any language edition Wikipedia. You are also welcome to add other language descriptions to files (images, videos, etc.) in the Commons to assist non-English speakers. Focusing on these subjects in the following languages may give you the highest readership.

• Albanian: Hamtramck
• Standard Arabic: Dearborn (Arabic is very important for Dearborn subjects), Hamtramck, some areas in Detroit (mostly those areas next to Dearborn and Hamtramck), Detroit Metro Airport (some airport signage is in Arabic)
• Bengali: Hamtramck, areas of Detroit next to Hamtramck
• Bosnian: Hamtramck
• Mandarin Chinese: Troy, historical information related to the Cass Corridor Chinatown, Detroit Metro Airport (some airport signage is in Chinese) - Some Chinese are in Rochester Hills, Canton Townshp, and Madison Heights
• Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and/or other Indian languages: Consider Indian communities in Farmington Hills, Troy, Novi, etc. Some Asian Indians are in westside of Detroit next to Dearborn and in Detroit next to Hamtramck. Remember that many Indians coming to the U.S. have high levels of English fluency so it may not be as much of a priority compared to Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese
• Hmong: northeast Detroit (Osborn), possibly Warren, Pontiac, and Sterling Heights

• Japanese: Detroit Metro Airport (much of the airport signage is in Japanese), Novi (some Japanese also live in West Bloomfield and Farmington Hills and many Japanese companies are in Farmington Hills)

• Romanian: Areas of Detroit (I do not know which neighborhoods have the highest Romanian populations)
• Spanish: Mexicantown and Southwest Detroit, Pontiac, Detroit Metro Airport (some airport signage is in Spanish)

Detroit Public Schools has published documents in Spanish, Romanian, Arabic, Bengali, and Hmong so those languages are most important in relation to DPS. Detroit Metro Airport has a lot of signage in Japanese, making that language the most important in relation to the airport. Some signage is in Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic. Since at least the late 1990s, Chrysler has performed poorly in independent rankings of reliability, quality, and customer satisfaction. In 2011, James B. Stewart said in The New York Times that Chrysler's quality in 2009 was "abysmal," and cited that all Chrysler brands were in the bottom quarter of J. D. Power and Associates' customer satisfaction survey. In 2015, Fiat Chrysler brands ranked at the bottom of J. D. Power and Associates' Initial Quality Study, and the five Fiat Chrysler brands were the five lowest ranked of 20 brands in their Customer Service Index, which surveyed customer satisfaction with dealer service. Chrysler has performed poorly in Consumer Reports annual reliability ratings. In 2009 and 2010, Chrysler brands were ranked lowest in the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability Survey; in 2014 and 2015, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat were ranked at or near the bottom; in 2015 five of the seven lowest rated brands were the five Fiat Chrysler brands. In 2016, all Fiat Chrysler brands (Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Fiat; Ram was not included) finished in the bottom third of 30 brands evaluated in Consumer Reports' 2016 annual Automotive Brand Report Card; Consumer Reports cited "poor reliability and sub-par performance in our testing." Detroit Negro League teams

I've started articles on two of the great Detroit Negro league teams: 1919 Detroit Stars season (led by Baseball Hall of Famer Pete Hill) and 1932 Detroit Wolves season (a team that included five Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, including Cool Papa Bell). Online edit-a-thon: Black architects of Detroit

Architects.Build.Wiki is an initiative to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Black architects and their buildings. Please join an online edit-a-thon on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, part of the 50th annual conference of the National Organization of Minority Architects. In this event we will focus on the architects of Detroit and Michigan; we hope to expand the initiative to other areas in the coming years.

Spring 2022 Meeting

Hey everyone! I am looking to organize a Michigan-based Wikipedia event, perhaps around 3 days, where we could all meet around a certain theme or themes. Let me know what you think? I am mostly active within the cultural and music-based worlds of Wikipedia, so that is my expertise. This is the first time I am trying to organize something like this so please if anyone has any advice or would like to help me I am all ears. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects.
