WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Help with Steelcase
Hi there. I've been working on some ways to improve the article of furniture maker Steelcase, which has its headquarters in Grand Rapids. I posted a suggestion for a new History section for the article, because the company's history is largely described in a bulleted list currently, but I've not had a response yet. I'd like for other editors to review it since I'm working on behalf of Steelcase and I do not want to make any direct edits to the article myself. The article falls under the scope of this WikiProject, so I am hoping someone here might be interested in taking a look. I've posted a note on the Talk page with more information. Thanks in advance, Heatherer (talk) 16:03, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

suggested COI edits at Dow Corning
Hi, I've proposed some additions to Dow Corning on the article's Talk page, here. I'm not editing directly because I have a COI (I work for a communications firm that represents Dow Corning). Dow Corning is based in Midland and thus falls under the scope of this WikiProject, so I'm sharing a notification here in case anyone is interested in taking a look and letting me know what you think. I would certainly appreciate any feedback. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryGaulke (talk • contribs) 16:32, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
History of Michigan State University FAR
I have nominated History of Michigan State University for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:36, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Suggestion
Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Also, I'm new at making proposals, so please forgive me if I do anything silly. :) Hope that you like this idea! JonathanHopeThisIsUnique (talk) 04:56, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

West Bloomfield Township needs a highlighter map
The census map for West Bloomfield Township was deleted accidentally in 2014, in which an admin deleted not only the duplicate file, but also the actual file itself. Would it possible for a new map to be uploaded, in the same style as the previous map and other such maps of US municipalities?

RfC: Chrysler reception, rankings, ratings
You are invited to join the discussion at Talk:Chrysler#RfC: Reception; rankings in independent surveys and ratings of quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Should the following content be added to the article?
Since at least the late 1990s, Chrysler has performed poorly in independent rankings of reliability, quality, and customer satisfaction.[1][2][3] In 2011, James B. Stewart said in The New York Times that Chrysler's quality in 2009 was "abysmal," and cited that all Chrysler brands were in the bottom quarter of J. D. Power and Associates' customer satisfaction survey.[4] In 2015, Fiat Chrysler brands ranked at the bottom of J. D. Power and Associates' Initial Quality Study, and the five Fiat Chrysler brands were the five lowest ranked of 20 brands in their Customer Service Index, which surveyed customer satisfaction with dealer service.[3][5] Chrysler has performed poorly in Consumer Reports annual reliability ratings.[6][1] In 2009 and 2010, Chrysler brands were ranked lowest in the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability Survey;[7] in 2014 and 2015, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat were ranked at or near the bottom;[8][9] in 2015 five of the seven lowest rated brands were the five Fiat Chrysler brands.[10] In 2016, all Fiat Chrysler brands (Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Fiat; Ram was not included) finished in the bottom third of 30 brands evaluated in Consumer Reports' 2016 annual Automotive Brand Report Card; Consumer Reports cited "poor reliability and sub-par performance in our testing."[2][11][12][13] Chrysler has consistently ranked near the bottom in the American Customer Satisfaction Index survey.[14]

Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:16, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

US 50,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more states than they might otherwise work on. If there's the interest I will start 1000 State Challenges like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of states regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for the US and your specialist/home state like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every state, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any state sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:18, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
New stub article Cannabis in Michigan
Anyone here more familiar with the politics on the ground, and the strong sources to use, who wants to help flesh out this short article? 2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages
Greetings WikiProject Michigan/Archive 6 Members!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.
Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Best regards, Stevietheman — Delivered: 18:04, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Notice to participants at this page about adminship
Many participants here create a lot of content, may have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.
So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:
You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.

Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Michigan/Archive 6/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Michigan.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Michigan, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Good Afternoon,
I just did this recently and was looking at it for Ecology information unfortunately I couldn't find any information with credibility in order to add in current ecology information, however I did notice that this article does not touch on Kayaking or a water method id the only way to get out there due to the private land or that it is a roughly 7 mile kayak and will take you between 2-4 hours in order to make this journey.
I suggest adding in- "This trip will take roughly between 2-4 hours via Kayak and you will go roughly 7 miles round trip. Kayak rentals are available in town." [1] [2]

Years in Michigan
Over the last couple months, I've been trying to build out a series of "years in Michigan" articles. So far, 1950, 1955-1956, 1962, 1974, and 1980 in Michigan have a lot of content. The following additional years have been started, but still need a lot of work: 1895, 1901, 1905, 1910, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1930-1954, and 1957-1961, 1963-1966, 1968-1973, 1975-1978 still need a lot of work. Other years have not yet been created. Ideas for content and/or formatting and assistance in starting/building out these articles are welcome. Cbl62 (talk) 21:27, 20 July 2017 (UTC) Updated. Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject
Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:48, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

RfC on election/referendum naming format
An RfC on moving the year from the end to the start of article titles (e.g. South African general election, 2019 to 2019 South African general election) has been reopened for further comment, including on whether a bot could be used move the articles if it closed in favour of the change: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. Gretchen Whitmer lead photo
Hey y'all,
There have been quite a few edits recently to Gretchen Whitmer related to what photo of Whitmer is shown at the top of the article. Is there a more practiced Wikipedian who can weigh in as to what photo should be used? Should we wait for an official gubernatorial photograph?
I'm just trying to reach consensus so we can focus on improving the article's content and not devolve into a flame war. Thanks! MatthewRMiller2 (talk) 00:42, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
Spelling of LeRoy, Michigan Title
Greetings,
Please correct the spelling of the article title to "LeRoy, Michigan". There is no space between the "e" and the "R", and there never has been.

Many thanks! Kim Warden LeRoy Village Resident
- Karen, I consulted my copy of Walter Romig's excellent book, Michigan Place Names: The History of the Founding and the Naming of More than Five Thousand Past and Present Michigan Communities and confirmed that the community name does in fact lack a space. I moved the map graphic over on Wikimedia Commons so that it appears in the article again after you changed the name of the file. I've placed a request for an administrator to delete the "LeRoy, Michigan" redirect so that we can move "Le Roy, Michigan" to that title. Once that is done, the article title will be updated. Hello! Your WikiProject has been selected to participate in the WP 1.0 Bot rewrite beta. This means that, starting in the next few days or weeks, your assessment tables will be updated using code in the new bot, codenamed Lucky. A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Somerset photo at end of galleries
Hello,
I have noticed that, in the galleries of at least two articles – Birmingham, Michigan and Plymouth, Michigan – when scrolling to the end in full-page view, an image of the Somerset Collection (located in Troy, Michigan) appears. I see nothing in the source about this image though so have no idea how to delete it. Can anyone help me here? Thanks.

fire lookout tower(s)?
Is there really only one fire lookout tower in Michigan? Udell Lookout Tower is the sole member of Category:Fire lookout towers in Michigan and it is the only one I can find in the National Register's NRIS database, which makes the Michigan section of new List of fire lookout towers look pathetic. :( User:Andrew Jameson? Anyone? --Doncram (talk) 11:28, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- User:Doncram: There's only one on the NRHP. This site says there are about 25 remaining of over 200 original sites; this site lists five that are on the National Historic Lookout Register. Andrew Jameson (talk) 16:23, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Editing Gordon Food Service page

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Governor's Residence
Michigan Governor's Mansion seems more like a colloquial term. Based on the external source at the bottom and this Free Press article (not the most robust sourcing, I know) I wonder if Michigan Governor's Residence would be the more accurate term for the house in Lansing.

Ruth Johnson picture copyright
Hey, sorry if I'm asking this in the wrong place, please let know if there's a better place to put this question. I was looking at Ruth Johnson's page, and noticed her picture here: Picture. It's listed under the "Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication." Is this true, and if so, how can we check that? The website does say that the picture is free for public use, but I remember I uploaded photos that had a similar disclaimer that were taken down. I may have simply put the wrong copywright information on them, but I wanted to check if this was valid for inclusion on Wikimedia, because if so, I'd like to upload more pictures with this disclaimer for the Michigan WikiProject.RoundSquare (talk) 05:12, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

Making a location map for Wayne County, MI
I've created Module:Location map/data/WayneCountyMI, which allows Wayne County locations to be put on pushpin maps in infoboxes. Shinola
Hello. My name is John and I'm here on behalf of Detroit-based Shinola (retail company) to suggest some updates and corrections to the company's article. Given my conflict of interest, which I've disclosed on the article's Talk page, I'll be sharing suggestions for others to review instead of making the changes on my own.
My first request here seeks to correct existing text about how watches are assembled, based on sources already used as citations. I'm not getting editor feedback even using the "request edit" template as suggested, so I'm hoping someone from WikiProject Michigan can help.
Thanks in advance! JS at Shinola (talk) 20:26, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Photos needed for some islands in the Detroit River, near Grosse Ile
It is requested that a photograph be included in this article to improve its quality.
The external tool WordPress Openverse may be able to locate suitable images on Flickr and other web sites. |
Currently, I've nominated Powder House Island as a featured article candidate, but I cannot for the life of me track down a high-resolution photo of it that's freely licensed. There are a number of islands in the Detroit River that are in a similar situation. Specifically, around Grosse Ile there are two GAs (Stony Island and Fox Island) that don't have any recent photos, as well as most of the members of Category:Islands of the Detroit River. If anyone is in the area and feels like taking a few shots, I'd be quite appreciative. jp×g 21:58, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
