High and Top importance

[edit]

Should FAs also be included in the "Top" importance category? They are already very stable, and do not recieve many edits as such. I think that only FACs, important articles like India, and NPOV/OR/disputed articles should be included in this category.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 17:00, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Class and Importance are two different things. Some FA articles could be low importance too. FAs cannot automatically be assigned a top importance. See Importance scale section. Please let know if that does not explain it enough. - Ganeshk (talk) 21:42, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two Categories

[edit]

I see two categories more or less similar to each other: Category:India WikiProjects and Category:WikiProject India. Do we need both? -- Lost 17:11, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We should merge to the new version Category:WikiProject India. - Ganeshk (talk) 21:42, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New wikiproject for Indian military history! Your help is needed.--D-Boy 07:22, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SHouldn't we start to standardize this for all the India-related articles? It's one of the goals isn't? The naming conventions is coming along very well.--D-Boy 09:06, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Economy of India

Indian articles for Wikification

[edit]

Hello. I was going through the list of article for wikification and found quite a few Indian articles there. It would a great help if we could wikify these articles. Here's the list (this list is only for the month of April):

I have added your list here. - Ganeshk (talk) 15:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Wikify

[edit]

There are a lot of articles regarding India that have been marked for wikification. We could use a participant on the project that is familiar with India and also fluent in English. A lot of these articles are in poor grammar for the most part and an unfamiliarity with India makes it difficult to wikify the article. Perhaps there is a certain tag that I could add to articles so you know which ones need attention? Thanks. --Brad101 03:30, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I consider the Indian WikiProject one of the best in the English Wikipedia, so I was surprised to find that the article Bay of Bengal is so brief. I realise that tagging it for WikiProject India might precipitate an international incident with Bangladesh and Myanmar, but could someone from this group take a look at the article and perhaps expand it? Thanks, Walkerma 04:09, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spinach, palak

[edit]

Spinach seems to be lacking interwiki links to equivalent articles in the Indian language Wikipedias, such as Palak.

I'm presuming that spinach is the correct translation of palak, and not just a common error. Thanks. --Singkong2005 talk 09:31, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism, extreme racial discrimination and removal of sourced material by Anti-Indian editors

[edit]

If you'll take a look at Indian nationalism and Indian martial arts you'll see that editors, particularly User:Kennethtennyson, have been aimlessly removing sourced text.

They have also been watering down the language, for example, calling Takshshila "one of the oldest univs" instead of the oldest, for which I provided both official govt. of pakistan citations and citations by academics.

At this rate NONE of India's achievements will ever be made public, please someone patrol these pages and help stopping the removal of sourced text, these guys also make a joke of academics of Indian origin saying that they're not good enough.

Userbox

[edit]

I was amazed to see that a national Wikiproject didn't have a userbox, after looking at the last sentence of Lostintherush's userpage. So I created {{User Wikiproject India}}, which can be viewed by clicking this link. It will automatically add you to Category:WikiProject India Members. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 06:09, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel, Thank you very much! - Ganeshk (talk) 15:54, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - based on input from fellow editors, I've created a newsletter framework based on the Wikipedia Signpost. Its only rudimentary and can be modified into a new layout anytime. This project needs the attention of the entire Indian Wikipedian community. Rama's arrow 20:12, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 23:54, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was great! Thanks much! - Ganeshk (talk) 00:06, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the file to the Jana Gana Mana article. --Ganeshk (talk) 00:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome. I pasted it here since I didn't know where to put it in the article. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 00:24, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

duplicate categories

[edit]

There are still two categories: Category:WikiProject India, Category:India WikiProjects. Do we need to take them to CFD or can an Indian admin just merge and delete? -- Lost(talk) 08:23, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved all projects into Category:India-related WikiProjects that is under Category:WikiProject India. I have deleted Category:India WikiProjects category. - Ganeshk (talk) 03:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Religions

[edit]

Do Hinduism, Hindu mythology, Budhism come under the scope of this project. Ramayana for example is I think related to India. Please comment. - Ganeshk (talk) 13:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A new stub has been created for music related articles. Kindly add to articles which need to be expanded. IrfanAli 17:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irfan, Was it proposed at the stub sorting project? It will get deleted by someone otherwise. - Ganeshk (talk) 18:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it was, some weeks back. IrfanAli 18:38, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The above stub has been proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2006/September, to sort the {{India-culture-stub}} which already has over 200 articles. IrfanAli 06:06, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Indian cuisine

[edit]

I am considering creating a new WikiProject on Indian cuisine; I would like to gain consensus on it first before starting it. Please leave your opinions here! --Gold-Horn 10:58, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feel, it is a great idea. It would bring consistency to food articles. India has many regions with varied cuisine. Recently created {{India-food-stub}} is a step in the same direction. - Ganeshk (talk) 15:58, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Have posted a link to this discussion on WT:INWNB. -Ganeshk (talk) 16:08, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It would be great if you could create it under this project as a work group, Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Cuisine. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 00:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Energy policy of India

[edit]

Due to the importance of the suject, my own interest in energy related topics, but my lack of knowledge of India, is there anyone in this WikiProject who would be able to make any progress on the topic of Energy policy of India? I've added a couple of items to Category:Energy in India, but that's about as far as I can get. Energy policy of the United Kingdom may provide some ideas. See also the new Energy Portal. Your help would be appreciated... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gralo (talkcontribs) .

Have posted your request to WikiProject_India/Requested_articles. - Ganeshk (talk) 16:01, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Task forces

[edit]

My recent workgroup creation moves has led to this discussion on how taskforces/workgroups be organized. Region-wise or Content-wise. Please comment. If any reading this, feels I am vote-canvassing, it was not my intent. This message will be posted at WT:INWNB and WT:INCINE. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 20:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FA Chart

[edit]

All contributors to India-related FAs/FACs have done great work so far - we're up to 45 and set to hit 65-70 by the end of the year. I'm listing articles that are not in FA drives but have a lot of info and can be raised to FA status with focus and concentration, but less overall work and swiftly. I encourage all editors to have a crack at 1-2 of these:

Amroha page

[edit]

Hi. I did some wikifying on the Amroha page, just because it was in the backlog of articles to be wikified. Two things arise. 1) there is no page yet for the university of this area, and 2) there is a chunk of text that has been transferred to the talk page referring to a figure regarded as a founder of the city, who may be notable but I cannot find anything on him elsewhere in Wikipedia, perhaps because of the transliteration. I wondered if I could just leave these two in the hands of you experts. Thanks. Itsmejudith 10:06, 12 October 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Pitiful STEM Comparisons to the WikiProjects of Other Countries

[edit]

In stark contrast to the wikiprojects of China and America, there does not seem to have been as much of an effort directed towards describing/outlining or otherwise analysing india's current and *likely* future Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical capabilities (STEM infrastructures). This should certainly feature at least as prominently as is the case for China's articles considering that the 2 nations are developing economies.

In such articles, I believe that it might be profoundly beneficial to make sure that there are links to websites that are outsider of wikipedia (with the index for such links also being independent of wikipedia).

The country's current day management and development of the internet is also something worth looking into (for example, is internet availability as 'free' as it is in the Western World - are there social/economic problems induced by the internet that compare differently to the problems/benefits that may have been experienced by China?

The nearest to any of this that I have seen is just India's Technology Institutes - which, in comparison to America's large body of Universities, for example, is something that could certainly be improved upon (though this is a much larger 'kettle of fish' than making a few concise and to the point wiki articles).

Still, the STEM stuff is inconspicuous by its absence in the case of this country!!! I am sure that there is much more that can be typed in these regards...— Preceding unsigned comment added by Nukemason (talkcontribs) 23:05, 25 July 2006

population of muslims in india

[edit]

from the time of independence of india to the current day the indian leaders have said that the muslim population of india is greater than that of pakistan. we should remember that bangladesh was also a part of pakistn before 1971.and in that year the population of west pakistan (that is the current day pakistan) was 80 milliom and that of east pakistan (that is the current day bangladesh) was 90 million if we add that we get apopulation of 170 million in 1971 of which 90% were muslim or 153 million . so how many muslims are today in india ?
