Wikipedia Day Awards
[edit]Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 16:02, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Title of the project
[edit]If the project is going to cover all three threads of Chinese-language cinema, namely Hong Kong, Taiwan and China (mainland China), the title would better be WikiProject Chinese-language cinema. If it covers only cinema of mainland China, it should be clearly indicated in the introduction of the project. — Instantnood 21:41, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree. That would certainly make more sense.Readin (talk) 14:49, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
[edit]As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Coverage
[edit]The project states it covers Chinese-language cinema from the PRC and the ROC. How about those from the overseas Chinese community such as in Singapore and Malaysia?--Huaiwei (talk) 11:32, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Already covered by the Southeast Asian cinema task force. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 16:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Chinese cinema
[edit]Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:52, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
icon
[edit]I was lead here by the Cape No. 7 page that contains this box:
Notice that the icon shows the China's flag. This is highly inappropriate for a film made in Taiwan, particularly a film with a nationalist Taiwanese flavor. In fact it's been banned in China. The icon needs to change, but I can't figure out where it is specified in order to change it. Readin (talk) 14:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to change it if you have any good suggestions for an alternative graphic. I must admit that it is a less-than-ideal choice, but could not find anything better at the time we set up the task force. My apologies. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 16:16, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I don't know what your picture making skills are (better than mine I'm sure), but I'll throw out some suggestions - some difficult, some not so difficult:
- *A dragon
- *The Chinese character for "in" (as in "dyan in" for movie) (my Chinese isn't great so it might not be appropriate, just a suggestion. If you read Chinese well you might think of a better movie or art related character)
- *A side-by-side China and Taiwan flag.
- *A movie reel
- *A Peking Opera mask.
- *Or just leave it blank. That would be better than the PRC flag.
- Readin (talk) 00:12, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe if you want to stroll around Commons a bit? I don't really do graphics myself, and would prefer to use something from the available media. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 02:33, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- How about Image:China-outline.png? Looks like it includes all of the relevant areas. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 02:51, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Or if you want to stick with the flag motif, you could use File:Flag of the Qing Dynasty (1889-1912).svg as the Qing Empire incorporated all the areas.
- I don't really think that using a flag that predates the entire motion picture medium would be germane. I'll request an edit to the template image, but be advised that depending on response time, it may take several days. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 17:55, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- "request"? How are you planning to do this? Do you need to make a request of an admin to allow you to change the template image? How does this work?
- I thought the Qing flag would be useful as both countries and both countries' peoples agree that they were once under the control of the Qing Empire together. There is no more recent flag that both countries would be willing to use. The map may have to do, though the fact that it exactly matches the territorial claims of the PRC makes me wish we could use find something more neutral. Readin (talk) 18:09, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, we could just use the . Readin (talk) 18:13, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Project related GA noms
[edit]In case anyone would like to take a look at them. I've totally re-done two John Woo films that fall under the project. These films being Hard Target (boo!) and Hard Boiled (yay!). If anyone would like to take a look at these or review them for GA, I'd really appreciate it and you'd be supporting the project. Thank you! Andrzejbanas (talk) 03:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
WP 1.0 bot announcement
[edit]This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:07, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Unreferenced living people articles bot
[edit]User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.
The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Chinese cinema task force/Unreferenced BLPs<<<
If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.
Thank you. Okip 02:47, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Rename
[edit]This WikiProject should be renamed Chinese-language cinema. Chinese-language cinema and Chinese cinema aren't essentially the same thing. 116.49.135.38 (talk) 14:43, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Black Enforcer
[edit]Ongoing AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Black Enforcer. We found some German source indicating that at some time there must have been critical commentary about the film (Top 19 in 1972). Due to age and language Google is no help though. I am sure there are some knowlegdeable people here with access to data us westerners don't have. Agathoclea (talk) 10:46, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Qian Zhijun/Little Fatty debate
[edit]Hi! There is a debate over whether Qian Zhijun is now notable enough for Wikipedia,. Please see: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Qian_Zhijun Especially for people who know Chinese, it is appreciated if you review the noticeboard post! WhisperToMe (talk) 02:08, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Does anyone know how I can find the box office numbers of "The University Days of a Dog" (一只狗的大学时光)? Official DVD sales would be good too!

Women's History Month is in March
[edit]Hi everyone at WikiProject Chinese cinema!
Women's history month is around the corner, in March, and we're planning the second WikiWomen's History Month.
This event, which is organized by volunteers from the WikiWomen's Collaborative, supports improving coverage about women's history during the month of March. Events take place both offline and online. We are encouraging WikiProjects to focus on women's history related to their subject for the month of March. Ideas include:
- Improving coverage about Chinese women filmmakers, directors, producers, and executives
- Developing content about women owned Chinese film businesses
We hope you'll participate! You can list your your project focus here, and also help improve our to-do list. Thank you for all you do for Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 20:48, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I am interested to participate. Besides those ideas you mentioned above, I suggest add a item as below:
- Improving coverage about Chinese overseas female writes, editors and female actors, for example: pages like Geling Yan Tang Wei need to be improved.
Thanks for the suggestion. Welcome to discuss more on my talk page [talk] Llljoyce (talk) 19:58, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
Golden Rooster Awards and Hundred Flowers Awards articles are in a mess
[edit]Two important Chinese film awards, yet the related articles are in massive disarray. Could we have some people work on them, so that they reach the standards of articles for the Academy Awards? DORC (talk) 13:27, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Entries on Film censorship in China
[edit]There is a dispute over whether The Lost City of Z and Dangal should be included in the list on Film censorship in China. The crux of the discussion is that, for both films, sources state that alterations were made to the films by their producers, rather than the State Administration body, to change the pacing of the film rather than to remove objectionable content, but after the release of both films in China, a notice from the Administration body made it illegal to distribute any uncut version of any film, including these two films. Please see the discussion at Talk:Film censorship in China#Lost City of Z & Dangal. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 22:38, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
The Lonely Warrior
[edit]Would someone from the ZHCINE task force take a look at The Lonely Warrior and assess it? It's just been newly created and probably needs to be evaluated per WP:NFILM or WP:NTV (I'm not sure which might be applicable to online dramas. All of the sources are in Chinese should it probably would be a good idea for someone fairly competent in Chinese to take a look at them. It might also be a good idea to see whether this is pretty much a direct translation of the Chinese Wikipedia article zh:三大队. If it's either a complete or partial translation of the Chinese Wikipedia article, it's lacking proper attribution and would (technically) be considered a copyright violation per WP:TFOLWP that needs to be cleaned up. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:55, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
