More usernames/passwords

 Done 0.99 Hello, I am suggesting another feature. Is possible to add multiuser login? So I can choose username1 or username 2 after startup. Titles with tabs in them

When this program encounters pages with tabs in the page's title, the tabs comes out in it's escaped form(\x) instead of being a tab, which results in WikiCleaner not finding the article because their is no such article that has the tabs in their title escaped. Actually, I not sure if \x means a tab or not. Whatever it is, here's an example: I clicked on random page, and I got this: Rollin' \x26 Coastin' (In Search of America). Some weird is going on were it converts some character into a \x. Usb10 ^Connected? 23:33, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, it should but I have no Mac to test WikiCleaner on it... What problems do you see ? There are several ways of installing WikiCleaner:

• either with Java Web Start : [http://site4145.mutu.sivit.org/WikiCleaner/WikiCleaner.jnlp first url], [http://site4145.mutu.sivit.org/WikiCleaner/WikiCleaner2.jnlp second url], and maybe [http://site4145.mutu.sivit.org/WikiCleaner/WikiCleaner3.jnlp third url].
• either downloading it directly here, but without any automatic update.

Java implementation on Mac computers seems different than other OS, so it's not easy to have a working version of WikiCleaner. If you can help me pinpoint problems, I will do modifications. --NicoV (talk) 06:17, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiCleaner works fine on my MacBook(running Mac OS 10.6.4) so I would assume that it would work with any Mac with Java Web Start enabled. Usb10 ^Connected? 22:50, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Installation

Hi, I was wondering if someone can help me. I've been trying to install Wikipedia Cleaner, as it looks like a very useful tool but never can. I'm running Windows Vista, and Java 6, but when I download the files, I just get the Java Splash Screen for about 30 seconds, the dots move along, and then it vanishes. Nothing is installed on my computer, and the Java Web Start process ends in the system tray. I'm using Firefox 3.6.13, and have tried all three URl's. Hi, it's the first time I see this error. Let's go for a few suggestions and questions:

• Have you tried the manual installation and does it work ?
• Are you behind a proxy ? If so, you can try configuring Java Web Start (something like: configuration panel / Java / General / network parameters)
• Can you tell me what is visible in the Java console ? You can force its display (something like: configuration panel / Java / General / Advanced / Java Console : display console)
• Have you tried other programs that are installed with Java Web Start ? (example findbugs)
• Have you tried purging Java cache ?

Hi, thanks for the quick response and apologies for my late response. I've tried the manual, that doesn't work, and I am not behind a proxy. I'm afraid I'm not really sure how to make the console come up, neither do I know how to purge the Java cache. I haven't installed other programs with Java Web Start, to the best of my knowledge. Hi,

On my Windows XP, to show the Java console (French version, so I am not sure of the names in English), I click on Start / Configuration Panel / Java to display the Java configuration window. Then, in the Advanced tab, I set the Java console parameter to Show console. Then click OK. Hopefully, next time you try WikiCleaner, you will have the Java console.

If you want to try an other program installed with Java Web Start, you can try findbugs by going to their demonstration page and clicking on the link "run findbugs" in the first chapter.

Hi. I will fix it this evening when back home. It's probably due to the new feature I have added yesterday (fixing orthograph and typography based on a list of suggestions). By the way, if you're interested in using the new feature for fixing common misspellings, it requires some configuration (and unfortunately probably some reformatting of the lists of common misspellings). Odd edit

 Done this edit was made when all I did was resolve the dab for per se. I definitely did not intent for all of that. I think this is a very grave matter - I do plenty of edits with this tool, and I assume it does only what I ask for.

Hi. This is really strange. I have the impression that you kept the article open a very long time (at least 24h : is it possible ?), because if I compare with an older version, the only difference is really the per se disambiguation. Did you have the page opened for more than 24h (earlier than this version) ? WPCleaner is supposed to check that the article hasn't been changed between the moment you opened it and the moment you saved it, but this safety seems to have failed this time. Maybe a side effect of an other feature (if the edit token is not valid any more, WPCleaner ask for a new one before retrying sending the article). I looked at my code. If WPCleaner receives a BadToken error when sending the article (it happens if you have opened the page for some time), it retrieves a new EditToken to try sending it again. But, when doing this, it also resets the information about what version of the page was used as a base with the information of the current version. So, when checking again that the page has not been modified, it believes no modifications have been done by someone else. I will fix this when I find time. --NicoV (talk) 09:10, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Copy settings files from one PC to another?

Hi. Windows ? Configuration is stored by Java in Windows registry. Run regedit and export HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\wikipediacleaner to create a .reg file. Import this file in your new PC (either double click on the file or import from regedit). I have never tested it but it should work. Configurable font colours and styles

 Done I would like to suggest configurable font colours and styles. I find that the italic cyan redirects are extremely hard to read or edit. Because of the italics, I often can't tell exactly where my cursor is. The choice of this style for redirects was mainly because often redirects mustn't be fixed (see en:Wikipedia:Redirect#Do not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken). It can now be configured. --NicoV (talk) 22:59, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

I analysed the problem, and it's due to a change in MediaWiki API in version 1.18: a namespace has been added to the XML answers of the API which implies that I need to change the way I read them. It means quite some modificiations, I will try to fix that tomorrow evening. MediaWiki developers have decided to cancel the modification which made version 1.18 not compatible with previous versions (cf. bugzilla). WPCleaner should work again as soon as patch 99135 will be applied on Wikipedia (I don't know when, but I asked). --NicoV (talk) 20:29, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Template with Unicode control characters

 Done Hello NicoV! Recently, a page that I pulled up (Adam Lambert) in WCW had the Template with Unicode control characters error. This error was immediately fixed by the UI, although it turns out not to have been correct. The link was an interwiki to the Khmer Wiki, and WCW removed three characters from the link, which broke it. I don't know if this is something that is known about, or can be fixed, or needs to be fixed (not being able to read Khmer, I have no idea what the fix took out, even though I compared the links and can see the three characters removed), but I thought I would mention it here. Poop patrol

Hi NicoV, I was wondering if it would be possible to use Wikipedia Cleaner to speed up processing of poop patrol reports. One of the things that Poop patrol produces is lists of easily confused words. At the moment I manually go through the list, correct the errors and add the false positives to either a safe phrase or safe page list. This is time consuming, so the reports are currently throttled to 50 anomalies per test per weekly run, which means that some tests such as staring have been running for over a year with perhaps a thousand articles corrected to starring or starting and many hundreds tabled as correct. Hi WSC! While I greatly enjoy using Wikipedia Cleaner for disambiguating links (which is why I'm a (talk page stalker)), it doesn't seem to be designed to handle the task you have in mind. Have you considered using AutoWikiBrowser instead? I use it for similar tasks, such as changing Blackberry to BlackBerry, Pink to Pink (singer), Prince to Prince (musician), etc. You can customize find and replace rules and set up false positive lists. Hi, Wikipedia Cleaner can do some typo fixing if it's correctly configured to do so on the wiki. Currently, I think it has been configured to do so only on frwiki. See this documentation if you want to configure it on enwiki. I'm not sure it will fit your needs, but you can give it a try.
