A good candidate:
- 1937 - Second Sino-Japanese War: Xie Jinyuan (pictured) and his regiment of Chinese soldiers began the Defense of Sihang Warehouse, across the Suzhou River from the Shanghai International Settlement, against waves of Japanese attackers.

1825
[edit]The text should say something like
1825 – The Erie Canal, connecting the Great Lakes with the Hudson River and hence providing an alternative route to the Atlantic Ocean, was opened.
The great lakes were already connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the the Saint Lawrence River.

Feast day of Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki
[edit]26 October 2012 is more than just the feast day of the city's saint, today it celebrates 100 years since its union with Greece on 26 October 1912, during the Balkan Wars. Thought this should be on there as well, it is quite significant. --Philly boy92 (talk) 07:44, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
- The Thessaloniki article states, "On 8 November 1912 (26 October Old Style), the feast day of the city's patron saint, Saint Demetrius, the Greek Army accepted the surrender of the Ottoman garrison at Thessaloniki." Because we list items on here based on their Gregorian calendar dates, that event wouldn't be scheduled to appear today. I wouldn't be opposed to including it on November 8's OTD, but only for this year in honor of the centennial, because relative to the other historical events in the city, it doesn't seem that major (per WP:OTDRULES, the event described in the blurb should be of major importance to the subject of the article). —howcheng {chat} 16:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
