In the 1980s the NBA used to award something called the Comeback Player of the Year Award which was sort of a precursor to the Most Improved Player Award and was usually given to players who had been injured or sat out for a season due to other reasons (sometimes drugs) and came back to have a great season or to reinvent their career. The last season it was given was also the first season the Most Improved Player Award was given out (though to different players). I'm thinking that since this was an official NBA Award and the IBM Award really wasn't (though we have a separate page for it), maybe we should make a page for Comeback Player of the Year Award or at least add it as a sub-section under Most Improved Player Award.
