[edit]

See the discussion at WT:Today's featured article/April 2024 about the blurb. It was pulled; the FAC nominator has mentioned December 3, 2024, as a possible date to run it. - Dank (push to talk) 04:05, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The PlayStation is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment, released in Japan in 1994 and worldwide in 1995. As a fifth-generation console, the PlayStation primarily competed with the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn. With an emphasis on 3D polygon graphics, the console was primarily designed by Ken Kutaragi and Sony. The console proved popular for its extensive game library, popular franchises, low retail price, and aggressive youth marketing. A total of 3,061 PlayStation games were released, including Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Metal Gear, Tekken, and Final Fantasy, all of which spawned numerous sequels. The PlayStation became the first computer entertainment platform to ship over 100 million units, with eventual sales of 967 million units, and led to a line of successors. Its use of compact discs heralded the game industry's transition from cartridges. (Full article...)
