"Obtain consensus first"

[edit]

Regarding the point about edit requests being "not controversial (obtain consensus first)", is this feasible if the page is protected? @ScottishFinnishRadish. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 06:22, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't feasible if it is under ECR, but the vast majority of protected pages aren't under ECR. There might be a better way to phrase this, but I would be wary of packing any ECR/CTOP language into this as it is mostly used by drive-by editors who aren't familiar with Wikipedia. Packing it with legalese would make them even more unlikely to read any of the instructions. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can we just remove the entire line about "Not controversial (obtain consensus first)"? Edit requests are allowed to be controversial (especially considering how in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict almost everything is controversial), and if there is clear consensus for something then an edit request would be unnecessary anyway. I think it would be better to remove that line altogether. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 19:40, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
