Amateur Athletic Association
[edit]Regarding the page Amateur Athletic Association (basketball), was there an actual league by this name? The lead says, The Amateur Athletic Association is an amateur basketball league that was created in 1897. It hosts the annual AAU National Tournament
, but none of its sources support it. At best, it seems like some WP:OR on Amateur Athletic Union and it's annual tournament, somewhat covered by List of AAU men's basketball champions. —Bagumba (talk) 03:38, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
- I've WP:PRODed it. —Bagumba (talk) 03:45, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Is there nothing about it on Newspapers.com? Alvaldi (talk) 07:15, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- I wasn't successful. It showed up some stuff for other countries' Amateur Athletic Association. Some local cities might have had a <city name> Amateur Athletic Association in AAU, but that's not some national league. —Bagumba (talk) 10:08, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- I also did take a short peek on Newspapers.com, and while there are alot of hits for Amateur Athletic Association, what they are referencing is all over the place. Couldn't find anything on a national league but then again I didn't look too deep. Regardless, I've no objections to the prod. Alvaldi (talk) 11:12, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is a weird one. Lots of the results I'm seeing appear to be typos, where people clearly meant to say "Amateur Athletic Union." None of the references or external links in the article offer anything helpful. Zagalejo (talk) 18:33, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

The Asian Tournament
[edit]See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball/Archive 19#Invitational tournaments in professional players' infoboxes, is it okay to list The Asian Tournament teams in the infobox? HanTsî (talk) 14:08, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Dwight Howard, DeMarcus Cousins, Quinn Cook, Samuel Deguara, Zaire Wade. HanTsî (talk) 14:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- We do not even have an article about the tournament per se. How are able to make an informed decision on this?
- From what I know, the teams put up players specifically for a tournament, then are released, then when a new tournament comes up, a new batch of players comes in (which may not be identical to the immediately preceding batch). It means these teams do not have actual "home leagues" that they are members of and are sort of like a team that barnstorms tournaments. At least this is how Strong Group Athletics works. If these teams are like that, I'd rather not add them to the infobox. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:26, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- You can read zh:2024年TAT亞洲巡迴賽, although the quality of this aticle is terrible. Personally, I would like to remove the TAT teams from the infobox. HanTsî (talk) 14:35, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- I can't read Chinese (but I can sorta understand how the article flows LOL) but for invitational tournaments such as this which are done on the off-season, I'd suggest removing it from infoboxes. Howard the Duck (talk) 15:56, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

Need help with new article name
[edit]Coach Michael "Mike" Miller is an absurd article name for several reasons. There is already an article named Mike Miller (basketball, born 1964), any suggestions what title we could move the new article to? Rikster2 (talk) 20:20, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- How about Michael Miller (basketball)? Googling that along with LACC brings up several articles about him. Alvaldi (talk) 21:01, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- OK, moved the article. Thanks for the suggestion Rikster2 (talk) 20:57, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Is a retired/inactive player a sportsman?
[edit]A lot of “21st century xxxx sportsmen” categories are being added to athletes whose careers ended in the 20th century. Is this appropriate? Once a sportsman, always one? Seems like unless the person is still active as a coach, executive, etc they shouldn’t appear in those categories, but perhaps others have a differing opinion Rikster2 (talk) 20:54, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
