I'm afraid I don't have a definitive answer for that. Individual items may fall into the public domain for one reason or another, but it's generally safe to assume anything published after 1923 is still protected by copyright. Gamaliel (talk) 15:36, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

that discuss Przevalski's Nuthatch (Sitta przewalskii or S. przewalskii)? I do not, unfortunately, know the page numbers, which is part of the problem, so I am asking you to search, if that's not too much. p. 152-157 of Chizuko Watanabe Master's thesis (only available in person at California State University, El Colegio de Mexico, and University of Cincinnati)

Concerning:

To improve Liceo Mexicano Japones

From the book:

Masterson, Daniel M. The Japanese in Latin America. University of Illinois Press, 2004. 0252071441, 9780252071447.

I found that quote on page 215, which says:

  • "Fieldwork by Chizuko Watanabe concludes that Japanese parents sent their children to the school to "maintain their ethnic identity and pride, implant a spiritual heritage that they claim is the basis for success, and to establish close ties with Nikkei-jin children who live in distant areas.""
The book has a footnote numbered 91 (at the end of the paragraph). "Notes to Pages 205-219." (p. 322) note 91 points to "Ibid., 152-157. - Which would be from Watanabe, "Japanese Immigrant Community." - So I believe the information about the Liceo Mexicano Japones from the Chizuko Watanabe thesis (or at least some of it) is somewhere on pages 152-157 of Chizuko Watanabe's master's thesis
This isn't to say that the thesis isn't available electronically or in print somewhere else, but it is only listed in Worldcat as belonging to El Colegio de Mexico and the University of Cincinnati. Gamaliel (talk) 16:53, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For: New Worlds, New Lives: Globalization and People of Japanese Descent in the Americas and from Latin America in Japan

The review of The Japanese in Latin America by Evelyn Hu-Dehart mentioned both of these books as being produced by International Nikkei Research Project with James and Lane Hirabayashi and Akemi Kikumura-Yano, all anthropologists, leading the efforts. Hu-Dehart stated that the Japanese American National Museum "spearheaded" the project.

I have been working to improve the Italian invasion of France article, and this work has been quite helpful. I was using Google Books, however I can no longer access the relvent chapter. My local library does not offer the work, and as far as I can tell no other libraries in the area do either making an inter-loan library not possible at present.

Does anyone have access to, or could provide scans, of the chapter dealing with the fighting in the Alps (roughly, it starts around page 175 and goes one for a few pages?

If I am not mistaken, from what I can see from those two links there is nothing I can access (except for the DAISY version, which I do not have a key for).
However, the website did highlight a library from which I could possibly get an inter-library loan from that I had been unaware of. Furthermore, I am back home now (a different state from where I was attempting to access this book last week) and for whatever reasons I can access parts of the chapter via google books.
So with access to what seems like a good chunk of the chapter and a place I can possibly get further access, I think the issue is resolved (for the time being). Thanks for your assistance.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 15:30, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not 100% clear on what you're requesting – might it be the following quotation? "Cana was a strategically vital center on the Roman road from Ptolemais (Akko) on the Mediterranean to Magdala on the Sea of Galilee (Josephus Life 16 §86)." That seems to be the only mention of a road between those settlements, but there's more in-depth discussion of the them and of Tiberias on pages 36–8. I would upload a PDF but I'm not clear on the legal acceptability or technical feasibility of doing so from Google Books. Let me know if that's any use or what else you're looking for. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 10:52, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. This page is a ref about the road at Al-Majdal:[35] but I just can't see how the Josephus cite [36] supports it. See User talk:Tiamut#Al-Majdal / Cana. Proquest article request

[edit]
Resolved

Looking for this article from the Hartford Courant for Willie Hoppe, available from Proquest, for verification purposes and possibly expansion. What it's cited for currently sounds highly dubious to me considering he was not predominantly a pocket billiards player at all.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:21, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The source says: "He probably was the only billiard player ever to give an exhibition in the White House." No reference to pocket billiards. John M Baker (talk) 21:23, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@John M Baker: Ah, thanks much. Shows how careful you must be in your assumptions to not engage in original research. Billiards? Yes. Pocket billiards? Highly unlikely – but the person who sourced this probably doesn't know the difference. At least "probably" was kept in, which was a good hedge in the source, but wrong because he was not the only billiards player to give an exhibition at the white house, and if I remember, Ralph Greenleaf did as well.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Each of the following references a nuthatch Sitta subspecies, which I have placed before the reference. In each case, I need the article title (in Cyrillic for the Russian ones if possible, with a translation), and a link to the article if one exists. All but one should be out of copyright, but my lack of Russian has made it hard for me to find the articles. Thanks Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:23, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, I went digging into worldcat for this one -- "Зоологический институт академии наук СССР" is the department/publisher, not the title; they publish something called "Fauna USSR" (Фауна СССP) but I couldn't make the volumes line up. No luck, though the author was prolific and wrote a 4-volume guide to passerines that might be helpful. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 00:06, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if these are incredibly rare in English language libraries or that Worldcat does a poor job with foreign language resources, but I was only able to find one of the above items listed there at a single institution, Наша Охота in the British Library. This is not my area at all, but I poked around WorldCat and I think that book does exist. I found a bunch of records for a 1973 series published by "Chophel Legdan", the Collected Works of "Pha-boṅ-kha-pa". These records contain little information, only that this series was "Tibetan, Reprod. under the guidance of the Ven. Request for access to: Labov, William, Sharon Ash, and Charles Boberg (2006). The Atlas of North American English. Berlin: Mouton-de Gruyter. p. 68. ISBN 3-11-016746-8. This commonly appears in articles related to American dialects, but I can never check whether citations actually do connect to the text. It is difficult for me to find a wholly available copy of the text. Wikipedia articles being improved. --Wolfdog (talk) 02:51, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jezreel—Where Jezebel Was Thrown to the Dogs

[edit]
Resolved

David Ussishkin, "Jezreel—Where Jezebel Was Thrown to the Dogs", Biblical Archaeology Review July / August 2010 [42]

Need to verify some information on Jezreel (city). Specifically I'm looking to verify:

"The fortress enclosed an area of almost 11 acres (45,000 m2). It was 860' long and 470' wide, and defended by a steep slope to the north and a moat 20' deep and rampart on the other three sides."

The editor @Gil72: asked me for help in trying to verify this information, and while I was able to find an online source, the article is behind a paywall. Apparently the article is not on HighBeam, which was the only resource the first person I asked for help had access to. --Zell Faze (talk) 02:13, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Zellfaze: Not that, but four other articles about the Tel: here. pass : jezre4 . There is also a series of "Preliminary Archaeological Reports" that I can add if needed. trespassers william (talk) 14:31, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Downloaded. I'll review and add them to the article. Thank you! Zell Faze (talk) 22:52, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For the article on ResearchGate

The article shows up in my library's online database, but when I click on it, it brings up an error page. Does not show up in Google searches. If anyone has access to it, it would be very greatly appreciated. --CorporateM (Talk) 18:45, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @user:Atethnekos. I am having an identical problem with this source:
Science networking
Nature, ISSN 0028-0836, 06/2013, Volume 498, Issue 7453, p. 143
Not to be too needy, but if you happen to have access to that as well. CorporateM (Talk) 19:13, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sent that one too. You're welcome, it's pretty easy to do from my end. As you can see, that's just a short sub-column on the second page (p. 143) of that "Seven Days" section. --Atethnekos (DiscussionContributions) 19:31, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
