Gosse was a South Australian who was awarded the George Cross, the highest award for heroism or courage, not in the face of the enemy, that could be awarded to a member of the Australian armed forces at the time, for disarming three German naval mines under exceptionally hazardous conditions towards the end of WWII. I decided to work on this as an extension of my work on getting the South Australian Victoria Cross recipients to FA. Having scoured the usual books and the Australian Dictionary of Biography, I am pretty sure it is comprehensive and ready for ACR. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 10:23, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

[edit]- I think you should unlink the second link of each link in the body and lead. Because this article is really small so linking once is enough.
- I prefer to stick to once in the lead and once at first mention in the body as that is the norm. The only exception is GC and George Cross in the lead, which I think is justified. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 07:08, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

- All done. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:35, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- "D-type mine with additional fittings", known as an "Oyster" Link of Oyster?
- I don't think it is relevant. There isn't an appropriate link, AFAIK.
- A ward at the former Repatriation General Hospital, Hollywood What's an "A ward"?
- A ward is a cluster of rooms in a hospital. Linked. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:35, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe add archives for the sources in case one of them crashed.
- I keep a watch on link rot and there is a bot that does this stuff, so I'll just do it as required. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:35, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
Looks good for a small article. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 15:44, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

[edit]This is a pretty well written article, so it was hard to find things to improve.
- he served aboard the County-class heavy cruisers HMAS Australia and Canberra. The ADB entry seems more clearly phrased in this case when it adds "successively". Perhaps you could rephrase this sentence to reflect the sequence?
- promoted to midshipman in May 1930 --> promoted to midshipman in May of that year
- Gosse was promoted to acting --> He was promoted to acting
I searched Gosse on Trove, but the only new information I could find was that he collapsed from nervous strain after speaking at a series of recruiting rallies in 1950, though I'm not sure how significant this is in the long run Kges1901 (talk) 23:59, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- All done, Kges1901, see what you think? I'm not sure whether to include the latter, he obviously did a few recruiting rallies, but I'm not sure if they are a significant enough detail for inclusion. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:51, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Looks good. A last comment on the prose:The presence of a George Gosse commemorative plaque at a rest stop on the Albany Highway [1] seems as notable as an individual hospital ward being named for him. Kges1901 (talk) 11:35, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can find a definitely reliable source for that one, I'm not sure about Monument Australia's reliability, although for this pedestrian purpose it might be ok. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 06:44, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- G'day Kges1901, turns out that isn't easy to do. I'd imagine the WA government probably has a document that could be used, but I can't find one online. I couldn't find anything at RSN about Monuments Australia, but I'd prefer to steer clear, as this is going to FAC, and I doubt it will survive a source check there. I've also added a bit about the recruiting campaign and his collapse you dug up on Trove. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 07:34, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- I'll Support now, as my comments have been adequately addressed. I think that Hollywood Private Hospital is also unlikely to survive FAC, but that is a minor point. Kges1901 (talk) 10:33, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
Source Review
- Secondary sources used for the bulk of the article are reliable and the nominal rolls and service record are used to supplement them appropriately. The references are formatted consistently. Gosse is mentioned in these two [2] [3] Australian books, which might be duplicative of the ADB entry and the Staunton entry. Kges1901 (talk) 11:35, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- added Firkins as that is a find, and have requested scans of the relevant pages as there seems to be a bit on him there. Wigmore I have a copy of, and it only contains an index-type entry for GC recipients: name, date, short description of the GC actions, dates of birth and death, that's about it. [edit]@Peacemaker67: I'm getting set to pass this review, however I wanted to let you know that three of your external links were flagged by the link checker. While none of the external links are dead, it may be a good idea to double check them just to make sure that they are all still going where you want them to. - Hi Tom, the link checker thingo is now throwing up blue for some links which are fine. I only worry about dead ones. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:25, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
