Overview

[edit]

The project coordinators are responsible for maintaining the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. They are the designated points of contact for procedural issues and are responsible for ensuring the project as a whole is properly informed of them.

Here are some examples of coordinator duties: the coordinators manage the proposal and creation of new task forces; ensure project announcements and task lists are kept up-to-date; initiate drafting of guidelines needed by the project; organize the category system; oversee the recruitment of new members, including the use of project notices and other advertising methods; create and maintain any collaborative projects; maintain the project page and the various guidelines on it in a clean and easy-to-use state; monitor technical policies and ensure project templates satisfy them; and assist in organizing and promoting any Backlog Elimination Drives and Blitzes.

They are also expected to generally assist project members with any questions or concerns.

The coordinator positions do not confer any executive power.

Positions

[edit]
  • Lead Coordinator (one open position): will have overall responsibility for procedural and administrative matters within the project.
  • Coordinator (2–4 open positions): will assist the Lead Coordinator by focusing on specific areas within the project that require special attention. These areas will be selected based on need and interest among the coordinators.

Election process

[edit]
  • The nomination process will run for two weeks from June 01, 00:01 UTC until June 15, 23:59 UTC.
  • The election process will run for two weeks from June 16, 00:01 UTC until June 30, 23:59 UTC.
  • Any member of the project may nominate themselves for either position by creating a new section under Nominations below and copying the sample form below. Nominees only interested in one position should indicate this when adding their names. Candidates need not make extensive statements if they do not wish to do so.
  • The elections will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support a nominee for either position. If the nominee is running for both positions and you wish to support them for only one, please make a note to that effect as part of your vote.
  • Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or to make general comments.

Puddleglum2.0 (talk · contribs) • Interested in Coordinator position only.

I've been thinking about whether or not I should run the past day or two, and, while I ended up thinking perhaps I should wait another 6 months or year, on encouragement from Tdslk on my talk page, I've decided to throw my proverbial hat into the ring. I think my nomination last time was a mistake - perhaps I was a bit too enthuisiastic, but over the past half-year I think I've shown a sufficient interest in and gained knowledge of the Guild. While I thank those who supported me last time, I'm glad it didn't suceed, I really don't think I would've been a net asset. Even now, I won't be as good as the coordinators now, but it's a learning experience, right? :) Anyway, all that said, I hope that, if elected, I will learn the ropes quickly and help out the project in the best ways possible - asking questions or leaving it to other coords if there is something I misundersand. I believe I've covered most bases here - if there's anything at all you want to know, please ask away! Cheers and all the best, -- puddleglum2.0 02:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  2. Support. As Puddleglum notes in their statement, they didn't make coordinator last election, mainly because editors were worried that Puddleglum was too new to the project. Puddleglum handled that mild adversity well, and has continued to be an active and valuable member of the Guild, which is why I was happy to encourage them to run again this time. I'm sure the coordinators will benefit from Puddleglum's energy and fresh insights! Tdslk (talk) 02:38, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Question from Antila:

Which areas of the guild would you like to work on as a coordinator? Antila 05:27, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the question Antila, and apologies I didn't see it earlier! My areas of particular interest are helping out with the newsletter and perhaps getting it out more often, along with helping out newcomers to the project. I've written for the Signnpost a couple times, which would help me with newsletter-y stuff, and around the area of newcomers I've created and put into use the {{GOCE-welcome}} template. Those are the places I'm specifically interested in - as corrdinator, I'd be more than happy to do whatever else needs to be done, setting up drive pages, handing out barnstars, helping out at the Requests page, etc. etc. I hope this answers your question, if you want any more clarification, feel free to ask again! Cheers -- puddleglum2.0 23:18, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tdslk

[edit]

Tdslk (talk · contribs) • Interested in Coordinator position only.

Hello! I've been a member of the Guild for nine years now, and a coordinator for four. This is my home on the Wiki and I enjoy helping things run smoothly and productively around here. The past six months have been exciting, with both our 10th anniversary drive and new record lows in the backlog. I am eager to work in the coming months on improving the guidance we provide to new members about how the Guild works and how to copy edit.

Baffle gab1978 (talk · contribs) • Interested in Coordinator position only.

Hi all; I’m a current GOCE coordinator. I help maintain the Requests page, compile newsletters, and sometimes help out with Drives and Blitzes (though I should do more there, really!). I’m less active than usual at this time of year but I expect my activity will increase towards the end of the term. The state of some of the Guild’s help and instruction pages has recently been mentioned so I’m considering overhauling them this term. Otherwise I plan to wear the juice and carry on; if you’ll have me back, that is! Cheers, Baffle☿gab 22:58, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a current GOCE coordinator who works primarily on the articles on the Request page. I have spent time this term checking the work of new editors of Bitz/Backlog articles attempting to help them become better editors. I hope to continue to help in this way throughout the forthcoming term. Twofingered Typist (talk) 11:58, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jonesey95

[edit]

Jonesey95 (talk · contribs) • Interested in Lead Coordinator or Coordinator position.

You all know me by now. I have been a coordinator or lead coordinator for seven years, with a six-month sabbatical last year. I mostly work in the background, setting up and tidying drive and blitz pages, making sure the list of tasks gets done, putting out little brush fires, and editing a few articles during every drive and blitz. Although my actual copy editing of articles is not nearly as extensive as it used to be, I edit Wikipedia nearly every day, often for a couple of hours a day, so I am around to keep an eye on things.

In the next term, I expect to continue giving some thought to how we apply our skills and energy to copy editing new batches of articles now that the backlog has essentially been eliminated. Your questions and comments are welcome. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:57, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
