Article parts

[edit]

Articles about film festivals often lack reliable third-party references and often read like advertisements. Many are outdated. Yet film festival articles are useful, because the festivals themselves are notable events, with film premieres and awards that establish notability for films. The films and festivals go hand in hand. A well-crafted article about a film festival can provide linkage to films, directors and actors, and serve as a starting place for information that can be used to improve articles about films.

Standards have yet to be established as to what the festival articles should contain. Some festivals have separate articles for particular years. Some do not. Does Wikipedia need an article for every particular year of a regional short film festival? Probably not. But then articles on particular years for large international film festivals would probably be useful.

Images

[edit]

Aside from the key art of the festival logo or poster, there isn't much need to add images to film festival articles that aren't freely licensed. Film festivals are great potential sources of freely licensed images of actors and filmmakers. Organizers of film festivals should be actively encouraged to freely license their images, as the image description would always link back to the festival, thereby serving as a promotional tool for the festival, but also a great resource of images of notable public figures.

[edit]

This is pretty basic. Beyond the official site, and an IMDb link, if it exists, what else is really needed?

To-do

[edit]

Ongoing projects

[edit]
  • Creation of all film festivals for each year and films screened in the main competition sections of competitive feature festivals listed in the {{Film festivals}} template.
  • Article tagging is under way, and is far from complete. Feel free to browse through the film festival categories and lists and make sure the article's talk page is properly tagged. Wisekwai is working on Category:Film festivals in the United States, and has worked backward through alphabet to the letter T.
  • Go through Category:Film festivals and make sure each article has a class and importance rating assigned.

Category maintenance

[edit]

Other tasks

[edit]
  • More interested editors are needed to join this project.
  • Collect categories, resource links, and templates.
  • Expand the open task listing, particularly targeting articles that could be expanded or need clean up.
  • An infobox template, {{Infobox Film Festival}}, exists. Does it fit the needs of this project? Have a look and discuss.
  • Create a user box.
