HOLD-off AWARDING AREA
[edit]Previously known as #364
[edit]- I am pleased to present User:Ozzie10aaaa (talk · contribs · count · logs) as a nominee for EotW. He is a Medical content creator 'par excellance' and an active participant at Wikipedia:Project Medicine. Over 77% of his over 100K edits have been to the Mainspace of Wikipedia. Check out Kivu or Ebola epidemic or Western African Ebola virus epidemic or Covid-19 pandemic to see his efforts. He often replies at the HELP DesK. If WP (and the world) had more goodhearted editors such as OZZIE we would all be a lot happier. He is a joy to work with. He knows how to cooperate. A working editor needs an ego that is strong enough to not feel a need to defend his every edit and at the same time is able to work with others for the benefit of the project....and that's a good thing. Gandydancer (talk)
- I am grateful for Gandydancer, and her nomination, however due to certain harassment problems Im having with another editor, I might not be editing here much longer, therefore I decline this award (no disrespect to Gandy, and this has nothing to do with her which I only have respect for, unfortunately these things happen)--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 14:57, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sad news to lose a quality editor such as yourself to idle and nefarious actions. Many fine editors have faced this dilemma, myself included. I stayed away from articles he worked on. Upon his arrival, anywhere, I immediately removed myself from the article or the conversation or even un-voted in RFA. This nomination will not happen for two months, it's the last in the Queue. I am pinging @Gandydancer: to let her know and I will follow your wishes when the time comes. Take Care Be Safe. ―Buster7 ☎ 23:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- I only just saw this--somehow I missed the ping. This really makes me feel quite badly! Ozzie has always been so good to work with I can't understand why anyone would harass him. Can either of you tell me more? Gandydancer (talk) 13:24, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Ozzie10aaaa: and @Gandydancer: Ozzie,(One of the all-time great Survivor participants), I happily see that you have resumed editing. Just checking in to see if you may have changed you mind about getting a pat on the back for a job well done. That's all it really is. There is no sense in depriving ourselves (and the nominator) of little pieces of happiness just because other people are ____________. I'll let you fill in the blank... you never know who is peeking 'round the corner! Why let then win? Be safe, Take care... ―Buster7 ☎ 16:57, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

[edit]I wish to nominate SebastianHelm (talk · contribs · count · logs) as Editor of the Week. For many years I had a link to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/housekeeping included on my user page along with other "discoveries" I had made over the years. Planning to do some housekeeping I linked to it and was delighted to discover a treasure trove of collaborative thoughts and ideas presented by a true veteran of early WikiPedia struggles. The Sri lanka project became a model for similar projects in the English and French Wikipedia. Sebastian began editing in JAN2003. That is not a typo. He has been continuously active, even if, at times, only slightly. He has 21000 edits with over a third to mainspace. During his Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/SebastianHelm he was widely acclaimed for "doing a sterling job as a mediator" and for "bringing editors together, at the same table, to work constructively with each other". That claim still holds true after all these years. He actively promotes Wikipedia as a welcoming place and is always "a calm and mature voice with a helping nature even in heated environments, where he is respected by all". He supports the Nonviolent Peaceforce and made important improvements to the article Nonviolence. Along with the Sri Lanka project he was an early collaborator and important member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland Collaboration and Wikipedia:WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration. A visit to User:SebastianHelm/Mediation and User:SebastianHelm/principles will still provide important guidelines to editors new and old.

[edit]I nominate Yngvadottir (talk · contribs · count · logs) to be Editor of the Week. An editor at Wikipedia for more than ten years, she has made more than forty thousand edits and created hundreds of articles. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford and is a specialist in Old Norse literature and religion. She has made significant contributions at Wikipedia in her field of expertise, and to other subjects as well. Thor, Harald Hardrada, Old Norse religion and many other articles are testimony to the quality work of Yngvadottir throughout the years. Krakkos (talk) 21:14, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

HOLD
[edit]For a variety of reasons sometimes it is necessary to place a HOLD on a nomination while it is being discussed. Any decision to return a nomination to the "seconding position" will be made by the EotW clerks and not by any ivote or consensus of respondents. Buster Seven Talk
August 2024 Nomination of B7
[edit]- I nominate Buster7, who, despite having been responsible got handing out over 500 Eddy's to other editors, has never, to my knowledge, been recognised for his dedication to this tiny backend of the project, which so few no-about until it shines a small light on their page and their editing and they receive the recognition they deserve. B7 has facilitated this so many times and yet enjoys no fruits from it save the knowledge that he has single-handedly kept the small flame of dedication and commitment alight in many editors' hearts. He has recently fallen afoul of what might be termed, loosely, over-protective, perhaps even over-zealous, albeit well-meaning and professional, administration. While he clearly regrets the role he played and takes full responsibility for his own actions, we, as fellow editors, should likewise do the same. We must take responsibility for ensuring that, before else, and in place of all, Buster7 receives the recognition and thanks he is owed by so many others. Now is clearly the time. For 500 selfless acts of generosity and for leading the hard slog of editor retention, I nominate Buster7 for Editor of the Week. SerialNumber54129 17:05, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support of course. Don't decline this time! :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:07, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- @All: See [1]. Buster received an Eddie in August 2022. While we may all agree that they deserve more than one, I suspect that we are embarrassing them. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:20, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- I will Comment on the talk page. Buster Seven Talk (UTC) 02:24, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Comments from talk page regarding B7 nomination
[edit]First, thank you Editor Serial. I'm glad you are paying attention. When Serial says, "He has recently fallen afoul of what might be termed, loosely, over-protective, perhaps even over-zealous, albeit well-meaning and professional, administration" Serial is making reference to a mistake. A typing mistake on my part but a mistake in judgement by administrators. Without going into detail, this morning, I woke up to discover I was Blocked. I have never been blocked. I have never even been chastised or threatened with a block. I squeak when I edit. My hands are so clean I don't need to wash them. When I come upon a red traffic light in RL, it changes so I can get home and edit WP. So, believe me when I say I was shocked. I spent the day in WP Limbo. I may not edit every day but I read WP everyday. Vetting editors that get nominated, reading history and article talk pages, etc. It's work and I do it gladly. As a Bahia I believe work is worship. As Serial points out I have been responsible got handing out over 500 Eddy's. I have also received one. My reward has been the Editor Response page. I hope none of you take offense, but that page proves to me that the EDDY award retains editors.
Now,about my nomination. Here is my plan. I'm gonna put it in HOLD after a few days and let it ferment. I might even visit every now and then and add some gin and tonic or some Mescal so it ferments to my taste. And if, down the line, the Accepted page is empty and the cupboard is bare, I'll have something to fall back on. I truly appreciate your kind words and the support in this important endeavor. I started the day in a daze. I'll finish it in clarity and glad to be back from WikiHell. Buster Seven Talk (UTC) 03:04, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
