- To reduce content conflicts from national points-of-view on shared issues between nations of East Asia

- Dragfyre (talk · contribs) – I mainly work on projects related to Vietnam (and SE Asia), but I might find myself working on East Asian topics from time to time, esp. China and Japan. My interests are mainly in society, culture, geography, and economy (currently working on a series on Rail transport in Vietnam).
- HyperStudent (talk · contribs) - I want to work on China, the Great Wall of China.
- --Shadowy Sorcerer (talk) 01:32, 13 December 2011 (UTC): I am interested in reviewing East Asian related articles for accuracy. I would like to help write articles on Chinese histroy, language, literature and philosophy!
- Globaldreamer (talk) 13:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC): I can act as a consistency checker (i.e. making sure all the proper links link up). I can also help by flagging articles so that all the contentious articles can achieve neutral status along with Qwyrxian (talk · contribs). My interests include East Asian history in general, specifically any history related to the forebearers of modern Korea, international politics, international development, Africa, US Government, civics, global health, any basic science, physics, and math. Yeah I have a lot of interests ^^* Small goal is for the history section of wiki, or at least the East Asian section to be as reputable as the science section is. The science section is well-referenced, and known for its high quality (read: Ph.D students, postdocs, and professors use it).

Scope
[edit]This WikiProject aims to cover East Asia, as outlined below:
- For the purposes of this project, contemporary East Asia is defined as the nations of the People's Republic of China, the Republic of China (also known as Taiwan), the State of Japan, Mongolia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (also known as North Korea), the Republic of Korea (also known as South Korea), and the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, Macau and Hong Kong.
- For the purposes of this project, historical East Asia is defined as any area within eastern Asia which has sustained significant influence from the historical nations, states, and culture of East Asia, broadly construed. This includes Vietnam and Eastern Russia up until the end of the Cold War.
This project covers the following aspects of East Asia:
- The nations and states of East Asia, both current and historic, broadly construed. Examples include Macau, the Mongol Empire, the Qing Dynasty, and Gojoseon.
- The capital cities of the nations and states of East Asia, both current and historic. Examples include Xi'an, Pyongyang, Karakorum, and Taipei.
- Territorial claims, including bodies of water and geographic features, that are either shared or contested by multiple nations or historical groups within East Asia. Examples include the Sea of Japan, the South China Sea, the Ryukyu Islands, and the Himalaya Mountain Range.
- Transnational relations, including wars, treaties, formal diplomatic ties, and general national relations between the nations and states of East Asia. Examples include the Korean War, the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, Joseon missions to Imperial China, and People's Republic of China – Mongolia relations.
- Culture, including philosophy and religion, that has or had a regional impact or spread, or can be traced to multiple nations or states in origin or end destination. Examples of this include Confucianism, Buddhism, Veneration of the dead, and Culture of Japan.
- Objects, events, concepts, and entities with demonstrable ties to the region, either in origin or effect, that contribute greatly to an understanding of the region as a whole whole, or a significant portion of that region. Examples include East Asian Games, Tofu, the Ink brush, and CJK characters.
This project is of mid level scope. This means that its coverage is narrower than the whole of Asia (which is covered by WikiProject Asia,) but broader than any individual nation or state within East Asia (which would be covered by a national level WikiProject.)
The goals of this project are twofold. First, we aim to improve the content of articles within the scope of this WikiProject. Secondly, we aim to provide coordination, resources, and if necessary, informal mediation between associated WikiProjects.
