Description
[edit]A WikiProject which would be dedicated to creating and maintaining articles related to all types of operating systems, from macOS versions, to all kinds of Linux distributions. This project would also create and maintain a portal for Operating systems. A draft WikiProject page can be found on my sandbox, here. OnlyNano 22:20, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- I believe that there are lots of articles that can be edited and created, with the focus of operating systems in specific, not just computing and software. There are so many branches to operating systems, additionally, which allows for the expansion of topics, such as the Windows API, and more obscure topics, such as Windows 96.

Discussion
[edit]Should be a taskforce/workgroup of WikiProject Computing or perhaps WikiProject Computer Science. We don't need more stand-alone wikiprojects that overlap with others; it just bleeds participation away from more general ones, and usually leads to yet another essentially dead subtopical project after a year or so. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 11:33, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- On the other hand, if groups focused on a single OS, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Linux and Wikipedia:WikiProject Microsoft Windows, could be merged together, then this might be a good thing. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:18, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Eh, I feel like those groups deserve to stay separate. If this project gets created, then maybe those groups could become taskforces of this WikiProject, but I don't see it TappyTurtle (talk • contribs) 23:29, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
