Description

This project will work to improve articles related to and focusing on monsters... Monsters in film, literature, and mythology. Not this doesn't mean every single monsters such as those in children's books and films, but the more horror oriented ones (if we are talking about just film and literature).Paleface Jack (talk) 20:33, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
Monsters are both widespread and, simply put, belong to more than one WikiProject and encompass a wide rage of categories. Not all monsters are necessarily horror, Disney's Monsters Inc. is a great example of this. My goal is to not only include horror, but also animation, mythology, literature, and other aspects that are not in any specific project besides their basic WikiProject.

  2. Mr. Guye (talk · contribs), as long as we have a clear scope. However, I like what I see so far. I'd also be interested in especially promoting the creation and improvement of monsters from underrepresented parts of the world, per WikiProject Countering systemic bias. SMcCandlish, if it makes you anymore comfortable, if this project falls apart then it can be easily incorporated into WP:WikiProject Mythology, WikiProject Horror, WikiProject Literature, WikiProject Fictional characters, etc. I am however opposed to including creatures from major active world religions. Thanks. I was thinking that if this project didn't go through that it could be a part of multiple WikiProjects. I just want to know why you are opposed to including monsters from different religions? There's no reason why we shouldn't include them since they are monsters. I would like to hear your take on that.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:36, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: Unclear inclusion criteria, commingling things that are not related into an artificial categorization. This is a fandom sphere that crosses all kinds of lines, and would be inclusive of mythological creatures, critters in horror films, sci-fi aliens, religio-spiritual bad guys, serial killers, high fantasy creatures, and much else. We already have wikiprojects that cover various genres and categories, so there's no gap for this proposed project to fill. If it were sharply limited to something, e.g. horror fiction non-human monsters, maybe there's room for some kind of workgroup/task force of WP:WikiProject Horror. But the articles identified above often don't have anything to do with this, and are not what is usually meant by "monster"; too many are figures of myth/religion.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ<  22:05, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    Well thanks for the opinion. I was kind of thinking that this could be a part of multiple task forces considering the intention of this would be more geared towards non-humans.     • @Bellerophon5685: Monsters are not exclusive to horror. There are mythological monsters, religious monsters, monsters from other genres (Monsters Inc., for instance), urban legends, ETC. This WikiProject also may or may not cover real life monsters, such as deep sea monsters and the like. Although they are perhaps most associated with the horror genre in fiction, it hardly holds the monopoly on monsters. DarkKnight2149 23:15, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • But this lack of topical cohesion is why this isn't a viable wikiproject, as I detailed above. Mythographers, ocean paleontologists, horror fans, theologians, and researchers of urban myth have nothing particular in common.
