The proposed WikiProject was not created. Closing proposal that has stalled despite some interest. Feel free to re-propose to guage current interest. Ajpolino (talk) 22:35, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Description
[edit]This would be a task force of WikiProject Video Games. There are thousands of pages in Category:Mobile games, Category:iOS games and Category:Android games, which, if this proposal was succesful, I would categorize as under this task force. Omni Flames let's talk about it 06:44, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

- Please invite these and any other similar groups to join the discussion about this proposal. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory to find similar WikiProjects.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Apps (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Apple Inc./iOS task force (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- I feel that it would be nice if we had all of the articles on mobile games all in one place, so that those who are interested in the topic (like myself) would be able easily locate articles to work on in that area. The most similar WikiProjects are Wikipedia:WikiProject iOS and Wikipedia:WikiProject Apps but neither of them really cover the exact topic of mobile games. Support
[edit]Also, specify whether or not you would join the project.

- I personally do not intend to join the project, but I support the task force's creation. Mobile games are often overlooked in WP:VG and it is great to see that someone is willing to spend time improving articles in this category. Let hope that with the creation of this new task force, we are going to have more well-written articles on mobile games! AdrianGamer (talk) 07:38, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Same as AdrianGamer, I would support it being created, but wouldn't be very active in it myself, as I'm not that knowledgeable about mobile titles. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 11:28, 5 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- It's a good idea and I may dabble in editing there, as I have done with WP:APPS in the past. Anarchyte (work | talk) 10:02, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd say this is less about the categorization and tagging and more about mobile game articles being equally represented, covered, and looked after effectively by the WikiProject. Most of WikiProject Video games is about console games, the guidelines are written for console games, and most of the discussion is about console games - think of it as WP:VG's own small version of WP:BIAS; this is despite mobile games being one of the fastest growing sectors of the video gaming market. Just recently I had a dispute with a user as some fields of {{infobox video game}} aren't optimised for mobile titles. Additionally, most mobile game articles are currently of inferior quality and many may have notability issues. A crossover between WP:VG and WP:APPS (like how the visual novel task force is a joint between WP:VG and WP:ANIME) would work imo. Satellizer el Bridget (Talk) 11:33, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]- This would be a whole lot of tagging for very little return. Unless there are specific issues that need to be broken out into their own discussion forum, creating new task forces has historically not improved coverage in that area one iota. As for having all mobile games in one place, toollabs:catscan2 does that, not WikiProjects/task forces. The latter is for organizing between editors and the former is for collecting the articles in a topic. czar 15:54, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Czar; I have doubts about the number of editors who might come out of the woodwork to actually be active and collaborative in this Task Force, which is the primary benefit of establishing a Task Force. But if the editors materialize, then more power to you. Axem Titanium (talk) 19:51, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Right now, I haven't seen anyone who voted say that they would (significantly) contribute to the task force specifically. I like the idea of separating mobile games from the main project a bit more, especially if it would mean that such games get discussed more on a centralized discussion page than they are right now on the WP:VG talk page, but I wouldn't be interested in joining either. No use creating a task force when no one's going to join... I recommend simply making more posts on WT:VG about mobile games if you have questions or issues. ~Mable (chat) 20:56, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
