The proposed WikiProject was created at Wikipedia:WikiProject AfroCreatives. This project has just enough members to become a WikiProject, but the edit-a-thon more than makes up for it. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 17:17, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Description
[edit]AfroCreatives WikiProject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African cultural and creative industries, as well as African cultural enthusiasts, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Our initial area of focus is in African film which we will expand into other sectors such as art, fashion, and literature. See our meta.
In the summer of 2022, we launched our first multi-country film related edit-a-thon. Informed by this first effort, we are expanding our activities in 2023 with a series of other film centered campaigns in partnership with African film festivals.
ACWP is a project of The Africa Narrative (TAN), a non-profit focused on building capacity in the African creative economy and amplifying global visibility of African cultural soft power.

List of important pages and categories for this proposed group
- Cinema of Africa (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Category:African cinema (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) (number of pages in the category:1000+)
- List of WikiProjects currently on the talk pages of those articles
- Please invite these and any other similar groups to join the discussion about this proposal. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory to find similar WikiProjects.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Film (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- AfroCreatives WikiProject is a singular project in terms of its focus on the African cultural and creative industries (ie., the African creative economy). To that end, WikiProject Film is too limited, while WikiProject Africa is too broad. To reiterate the point made in the project description, our initial area of focus is in African film which we will expand into other sectors such as art, fashion, and literature.

- James Rhoda (talk) 09:07, 14 December 2022 (UTC) The African Entertainment industry not only serves as an immense source of revenue but also as an avenue to promote the African culture, AfroCreatives served as a wonderful approach with which Wikipedia Editors in African could actively contribute on African related content on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, thus bridging the gap that exist. Its a great initiative, which I would love to participate in.[reply]
Discussion
[edit]- Impressive proposal, and you've already met the minimum membership. How many pages do you expect WikiProject AfroCreatives to be in scope for? elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 16:18, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- For films alone, the category tree of articles under the African cinema exposes us to 1000 (200+ of which were created in our July/August edit-a-thon). A big emphasis will be on generating new articles that will expand the current scope. LavenderDemo (talk) 19:27, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
