Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Colors. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page.

Scope

[edit]

This WikiProject seeks to improve the color article, the articles about colors themselves (starting with red, yellow, blue, green, black and white, and working our way down), and articles about color vision, color theory, color management, people involved in the history of the understanding of color, and other color-related subjects (for instance, pigments).

Goals

[edit]
  1. Bring Color article to FA
  2. Organize colors into "major color" categories with fully fleshed out (no pun intended) articles
  3. Discover and improve all color-related articles (Category:Color, Web colors, X11 color names)
  4. Unify the presentation of all color articles and, where possible, all color-related articles
  5. Assist other projects with color advice as needed
  6. Keep Wikipedia:WikiProject Color/Unreferenced BLPs empty

Guiding principles

[edit]

Details on these principles can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Color/Principles. Notice that these principles were established in 2006, barely discussed, and are currently ignored on many color-related pages.

  1. Notability and verifiability.
  2. Use of color disclaimer.
  3. Color values only if in a standard.
  4. Strict limits on swatches.
  5. Pre-vetting of acceptable color sources.
  6. Excluding proprietary color spaces.
