A few weeks ago, Chocco said that Port was the best 0-4 team ever. Freo currently has 1 win, 11 losses with a % of just under 85%. This is an AFL record. No, not Mr Outhwaite, who I happen to see quite often at Freo games at Subi. To recap: Dad's WAFL career was not notable, but he went on to represent Aust in another sport for many a year. Oldest son has just emulated him by making the Aust team, in the same position, but with a very different style. Daughter is in the national Basketball league, not the netball (sorry for that - I got mixed up). Little bro is currently playing for WA in the U18 champs, but may end up choosing to play the same sport as older bro and Dad instead as he is talented at both sports. Ok - got it (thinking as I type)...in 1982, Simon Beasley joined Footscray from Western Australia and went on to have a decent career. The following year, he was joined by three compatriots, and while all three didn't necessarily carve out long VFL careers, it represented a bit of a rebirth for Footscray, culminating in a finals appearance in 1985 (under Mick Malthouse). Actually, this question has just reminded me of a magic moment from my past. About 15 years ago I was doing some trianing in Perth, and this woman in the crowd finds out that I'm a Footscray supporter and she says that she knows some blokes who once played for Footscray, but she thought I wouldn't know them. I said try me. So she rattles off Andrew Purser, Jimmy Sewell and this 3rd bloke. Of course I know them! But she really did know them (not necessarily in the biblical sense). He was a wiry, mean looking mother who played mostly as a flanker at either end (a bit reminiscent of "Bones" McGhie, who was a subject of this very quiz in its earliest days, might've been my first ever question). Played most of the games in 1983, doing his bit to lift the dogs off the bottom, but it was a bit downhill from there. A year or so ago the AFL had a stats section on their website that basically covered everything from who played/kicked goals in each round for each team for each year, but also had a full tribunal list. I think its still online, just not updated or linked to from their current menu system. Luckily I ran a few web queries at the time and managed to download all of the tribunal stuff.
