[edit]

So while DGG said that Wikipedia doesn't normally include articles on people who's notability is based on a single charge, the case does set a non-negligible precedent for Canadians surrounding the charges laid on suspicious people during the G20. An article for Byron Sonne does exist in Wikipedia Urdu as well, for what it's worth.

If the biography article is truly not fit for Wikipedia, could the court case itself R. v. Byron Sonne be acceptable? Thanks! —f3ndot (TALK) (EMAIL) (PGP) 04:08, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@F3ndot: If you can cite significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article (such as inclusion in multiple casebooks), then R. v. Byron Sonne may be an appropriate article topic. --Ahecht (TALK

Hello!

Can you please tell us what we've done wrong? We would like to update the UNIVEG-page but we don't know what we have done wrong exactly...

Many thanks & best regards, Nancy Goovaerts

Nancy Goovaerts (talk) 14:31, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Nancy Goovaerts. Wikipedia has no UNIVEG (or UniVeg or Uni-Veg or Univeg) article to "update". Are you talking about the page you tried to create in your sandbox User:Nancy Goovaerts/sandbox? Click on that link and you will see the reason why. It was deleted as unambiguous copyright infringement from this web page. I note your edit to the general Wikipedia sandbox here, which is likewise a verbatim copy from that page and written like a pure advertisement. You may not copy text from other websites onto Wikipedia. And you may not use Wikipedia for advertising. I note that the German Wikipedia article (de:Univeg) is likewise a verbatim paste—this time from http://www.univeg.com/de. This may well be a notable company, but before you try to create a new draft please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations from beginning to end. Then read Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources from beginning to end. Voceditenore (talk) 15:25, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

16:19:55, 19 February 2015 review of submission by Design Archivist

[edit]

Hello, I have been trying to submit a page on HA Rothholz: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Design_Archivist/Hans_Arnold_Rothholz&action=edit&redlink=1 It has been deleted twice due to copyright infringement and after editing, unambiguous copyright infringement of the archives hub. It has been deleted as I have been accused of infringing the copyright of the archives hub website. This is a website that the archive I work in wrote the text for as we hold the collection for Rothholz. I had provided reference from other sources as well to verify the text yet it keeps getting deleted. Can you please advise?

Many thanks.

@Design Archivist: Wikipedia assumes that any text published on the web, unless it specifically states otherwise, is under copyright. If you would like to use text written by your company, please see WP:Donating copyrighted material. However, it is preferred that Wikipedia articles are written using original text written from an objectiveneutral point of view. --Ahecht (TALK

[edit]

Hello,

I don´t understand whats wrong with my article. I have inline cites and a lot of sources. Can I have some details?

Thank you and regards cp2306

Cp2306 (talk) 17:53, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Cp2306: Please see WP:REFBEGIN for instructions on the proper way to create inline citations. Because your article is a biography of a living person, every statement of fact (such as "Cristina Maria Saracut, was born in Romania, in the small town Pitesti, on 21.10.1992.") needs to have a footnote to a reliable source that verifies that information. Your references are simply a long list of links, making it difficult for a reader to figure out which links support which statements in the article. --Ahecht (TALK

hi, which copyright rules is broken by my article?

Jaipurclassifieds.in (talk) 18:07, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaipurclassifieds.in: Wikipedia assumes that any text published on the web, unless it specifically states otherwise, is under copyright. If you would like to use text written by your company, please see WP:Donating copyrighted material. However, even if the copyright issues are resolved, most promotional text is not appropriate for Wikipedia, as it is often not written in the proper tone and is too promotional sounding. You are much better off trying to write things objectively in your own words, if you can maintain a neutral point of view. --Ahecht (TALK

22:11:40, 19 February 2015 review of submission by Mh23Brum

[edit]

My submission was rejected for the following reasons. "This submission reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Submissions should summarise information in secondary, reliable sources and not contain opinions or original research. Please write about the topic from a neutral point of view in an encyclopedic manner." I can understand that it reads like an essay but don't know how to remedy this. The other reasons for rejection I can't understand. I haven't intentionally expressed an opinion and the only originality in the article is that the organisation isn't already mentioned on Wikipedia as all the information came from the articles cited. I would love some help with this. Also, I have taken a photo of the original club house which I would like to add to the submission under creative commons but I have read that Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a way of sharing photos. Do I have to lodge the photo somewhere else first. Thank you for your time. Mh23Brum (talk) 22:11, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mh23Brum - While it does read like an essay, I think it's a borderline case. The first couple of sentences could be tightened, (I would actually combine and reduce the 1st and 3rd sentences). Avoid phrases like "and also inspired similar ventures abroad often widening the original aims", that appears to be OR, which would fall into the essay category. I personally don't think this article is far from becoming acceptable to the mainspace as a stub.
Your reference to Wikipedia's policy is more for folks who simply want to upload pictures to share them. When you can upload a pic of something which can be used appropriately in an article, definitely do so. Once this article is moved to the mainspace, you can upload one of two ways. First is using the "upload file" button you can find on the left margin. After clicking on it, you can follow the simple instructions on the upload wizard. The second way is on Wikemedia Commons. It's a similar process, you begin by clicking on the upload file link found in the left margin, then following the instructions on the upload wizard. The choice is yours. The main difference is that ALL photos on commons are free to use. Uploading a photo only on Wikipedia can mean that it is a copyrighted photo, but there is a "Fair Use" consideration which might allow you to use it in a limited sense in very particular circumstances (e.g. film posters in film article infoboxes). Hope this helps. Onel5969 (talk) 17:08, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
