The Warn User dialog can be opened by pressing the button in the toolbar. This dialog can be used to append warning templates to the talk pages of other users.

The dialog consists of three groups:

• The user information group, which details the amount of edits a user has, how old their account is, and their user groups. To the right of this there are two icons representing the current warning level and a button for showing the user talk page.
  • The target user can be changed by clicking on the username or IP address.
  • For registered users, additional information can be seen about the account.
    • The user's contributions can be previewed by click on their number of edits.
    • The user's user page can be shown by clicking on their account age.
    • The user's groups can be seen as chips (small text buttons). Clicking on a group will show the documentation page for that group.
  • The top icon shows the current warning level of the user:
    • means that the user has received no warnings in the last six months.
    • means that the user has received a level 1 warning or notice in the last month.
    • means that the user has received a level 2 warning or notice in the last month.
    • means that the user has received a level 3 warning or notice in the last month.
    • means that the user has received a level 4 (final) warning or notice in the last month.
    • means that the user has received a level 4im (immediate final, only available on some templates) warning or notice in the last month.
    • Users who have received single-use notices or warnings (such as {{uw-copyright}}) will not be counted on this scale, and the previous warnings icon will not change.
  • Below the previous warnings icon, you can click for user talk page preview options. You can choose to select "Notices for this month" for the notices of the current month, or the entire user's talk page.
• The warning selection group allows you to select the relevant warning, the page related to the warning, and additional text to be appended.
  • The first row of this group allows you to select a warning. You can click this row to expand a drop-down list. Here, you can scroll through categorised warnings and select one of your choosing. Alternatively, you can click the or start typing directly on the dropdown to open the warning search dialog.
  • In the second row, you can type the name of the relevant page you are warning the user about (if the template supports it), or you can press the icon to select a recently visited page.
    • If you have opened the Warn User dialog on a page's diff view, this field will automatically be filled in.
  • The third row in this group can be used to append additional text to the user warning.
• The final group is the preview field. Here, you can see a preview of how the template will look like before you submit it.

Search

Ultraviolet includes a graphical list of all available warnings for the wiki. Each warning falls into three main categories: tiered warnings, reminders, and policy violation warnings.

• Tiered warnings escalate level 1 to 4 and 4im, consistent with the English Wikipedia policy on warnings. Examples of these templates include {{uw-vandalism}} and {{uw-disruptive}}.
• Reminders (also called "single-issue notices") only consist of a single template, and is usually used only to remind a user of a certain guideline that they may not be following. Examples of these templates include {{uw-c&pmove}} and {{uw-preview}}.
• Policy violation warnings (also called "single-issue warnings") are warnings which include a breach of policy and contain a stern message to the user. Examples of these templates include {{uw-derogatory}} and {{uw-hoax}}.

Each warning shows the name of the warning, a link to the template inserted by the warning, and the available levels of the warning. Typing in the search box at the top searches all warnings' names and templates, including additional keywords which may relate to a specific warning.

Select a warning by clicking on it. You can then press "submit" to use that warning. Pressing ↵ Enter when the input box is active will select the first warning in the list. You can also double-click on a warning to select it immediately without having to click on the "Select" button.

Pressing esc or the "Cancel" button will close the dialog.

These warnings and their respective settings are taken from the per-wiki configuration file.
