This week's report is dominated by film, TV and the Olympics, but is topped by a celebrity death.
Rank Article Class Views Image Notes/about 1 Lata Mangeshkar 3,532,616 One of the most successful playback singers in history, Mangeshkar had a prolific career spanning seven decades, singing in dozens of languages and recording thousands of songs. She was called the Queen of Melody and the Nightingale of India, and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001. She passed away early this week, at the age of 92. 2 2022 Winter Olympics 1,304,869 Beijing already hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics, and now got its snowy equivalent even if the city doesn't (usually) have snow. Along with the goddamned pandemic, another thing looming over the event is China's controversial reputation. 3 Simon Leviev 1,244,290 An Israeli conman with multiple theft, forgery and fraud convictions was brought into the spotlight this week by the release of a Netflix true crime documentary about his activities. 4 Eileen Gu 1,211,477 Two competitors of #2. Gu is a Chinese-American skier who decided to compete for the host country, becoming the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing at just 18. White is the most famous snowboarder ever, with three Olympic golds and 19 Winter X Games medals, only finished fourth and announced his retirement from competition at 35. 5 Shaun White 1,174,527 6 Pamela Anderson 1,089,899 Before Kim Kardashian, before Paris Hilton, the already famous Pamela Anderson became even more famous after private home video was released on the Internet. The story is reenacted in the six-part series Pam & Tommy on Hulu. I am sure it is in the best possible taste and exactly the kind of thing that Uncle Walt would have wanted - she's being played by a Disney Princess, after all. 7 Nathan Chen 1,080,074 Another #2 competitor, the American figure skater won the men's short competition, becoming the first Asian-American man to win an Olympic gold. 8 Euphoria (American TV series) 1,029,557 In 2012, Israel aired Euphoria, a ten-episode series about teens having a careless life full of sex and drugs. HBO's remake hasn't even finished its second season and has already greenlit a third. 9 Anna Sorokin 893,721 Another day, another subject of a biographical drama streaming television series. Hit-maker Shonda Rhimes churns out another hit series, this time for Netflix called Inventing Anna. Sorokin, who defrauded banks, hotels, and friends while masquerading as a German heiress, is played by Julia Garner (known for her role on Ozark). I've never been a huge fan of these salacious, tabloid-esque "true story" limited series that are all the rage these days, and from what I've heard this one's quite mediocre, so you'd never catch me watching it. 10 Deaths in 2022 863,975 It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again...11 The Book of Boba Fett 802,692 Disney+'s latest Star Wars endeavor ended, with an overall mixed response, especially as the show seemingly worked better when it was actually The Mandalorian. 12 Alan Ritchson 780,178 An actor with many superhero roles (Aquaman in Smallville, Hank Hall in Titans... and Raphael in the most recent Ninja Turtles films) and that has now replaced Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in the Prime Video show Reacher. 13 Tommy Lee 761,560 The Mötley Crüe drummer is portrayed by Sebastian Stan in Pam & Tommy, which chronicles his tumultuous marriage to #6 and the leak of their homemade sex tape. 14 Asha Bhosle 733,534 #1's sister, who also made a name for herself in playback singing. 15 The Power of the Dog (film) 705,227 Jane Campion's Western is the big nominee at the Academy Awards, running up for 12 Oscars, including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and four in the acting categories for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee. 16 Reacher (TV series) 701,191 Prime Video released a new adaptation of Jack Reacher, only instead of making him look like Tom Cruise, it follows the books' description of a huge muscular blonde guy with #12. The series of twenty-five books (so far) offers potential for plenty more seasons and the show has already been renewed for a second season. 17 Mike McDaniel 690,371 The Miami Dolphins hired McDaniel as head coach this week. 18 Justin Trudeau 671,808 The Ottawa anti-mandate protest hasn't made it onto the list itself, but the leader of the government they're protesting has. The third-term Canadian prime minister warned protesters of "robust police action" on February 11, but has been cautious of more forceful actions. 19 All of Us Are Dead 617,521 Centred around a zombie apocalypse in a high school, South Korea's latest Netflix hit reprises its spot, although it's dropped down since last week. 20 94th Academy Awards 614,766 The Oscars issued their nominations, and film fans hope the April ceremony will make up for 2021's embarrassment. The Power of the Dog and Dune are the big nominees, foreign films Drive My Car and Flee had a larger presence than expected, as did the divisive Don't Look Up. And the Eternals apologists were livid that two of the other Marvel movies got nominations instead. 21 Elizabeth II 600,245 The longest-serving British monarch in history, Queen Elizabeth's platinum jubilee began this week with the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne, with congratulations and patriotic celebrations pouring in. As a subject of Her Majesty, I... didn't really do much, but, still, God Save the Queen. 22 Hunter Schafer 518,888 Two actresses who portray a tempestous couple in #8. 23 Zendaya 493,423 24 Joe Rogan 485,222 Hot on the heels of criticism of his podcast for promoting COVID-19 conspiracy theories, including from musician Neil Young who understandably never liked Spotify anyway, Rogan was confronted by his repeated use of the n-word. Rogan apologized and expressed his shame and regret. 25 Gehraiyaan (film) 477,761 Keeping off the animated film dominating Disney+ is a romance film dominating Indian Prime Video.
