Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout/3rd
This page in a nutshell: For 5 days, starting July 5, 2010, Wikipedians are being asked to voluntarily refrain from editing all non-article areas of Wikipedia, and instead dedicate themselves to creating, cleaning up, and building articles. This is current and continues until 24:00 (UTC) on Friday, July 9, 2010. |
Beginning Monday, July 5, 2010 at 00:01 (UTC) and continuing for five days will be the 3rd Great Wikipedia Dramaout. In deference to the Great American Smokeout, editors are being asked to engage in a 5-day period of abstinence from drama at Wikipedia; the most addictive[citation needed] and yet cancerous aspect of our community. During this 5-day drama blackout, it is requested that regular contributors to the non-article-space areas of Wikipedia, including but not limited to, the various administrator noticeboards, the reference desks, the village pumps, or any other non-mainspace related areas of Wikipedia cease working at those areas for the length of the Dramaout and instead work on article content. With the exception of areas deemed essential to improving articles directly, all participating editors are asked to voluntarily abstain from non-article edits. If the dramas prevent you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore them.

Neutral
[edit]- Not for me this time, thanks. I participated in the last Dramaout, during which the biggest Wikidrama I've ever seen erupted. Though I stubbornly adhered to my pledge and waited until the end of the agreed 5-day period before joining the debate, I decided then to abstain from future Dramaouts. - Per CMP :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:41, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Per above. I didn't have CMP's restraint during the Drama s/he mentions, and blew up all over Jimbo's page, and this one, disgracing the Dramaout. While I still fully support the effort, and will try to observe it in my own fashion, I'll wear the dunce cap and sit in the corner for this one at least. Dekkappai (talk) 17:46, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Per Contains Mild Peril. Equally big Wikidrama is going on right at this moment. Dramaouts don't work and will NEVER work, especially when the "angry community" continue to intentionally misrepresent bad actions made in good faith as actions of bad faith. –MuZemike 07:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean by they "don't work" MuZemike... The dramaouts are not meant to stop drama, or prevent it from happening, they're just a way for editors to escape in a sense, another way of improving the content side of things. And judging by the logs of work done in the past, these dramaouts do "work", at least in that sense. Noone is obligated to participate either. The "angry community" can continue to be angry and there will always be someone to deal with them, despite some editors wanting a break from it all once in a while. -- Ϫ 03:56, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ignoring our problem always works... --Rockstonetalk to me! 04:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- Not usually, but in Wikipedia it sure relieves stress. -- Ϫ 12:43, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- They also help bring out in relief an issue, in a manner similar to "special days" in communties. When the people of a city or village decide to have an at-least-two-persons-per-car Day, they are not "solving the problem" of car congestion. They're just bringing it up and place it front and center in the public eye for further discourse on it. -The Gnome (talk) 03:16, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
