- Template:EIN (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
This template does not seem to give any useful information; the /doc itself says that the search only works in certain circumstances, and I checked about half o the extant uses and none of them give a result. Unless it can be fixed I figure this template should probably be deleted. Primefac (talk) 15:00, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. This template is useful to display the identifier whether or not the identifier is linked to a resolver. I will remove the link for now since the IRS seems to have removed the one it had been using. There's a list of possible resolvers at d:Property:P1297#P3303, any one of which we could link to now. In the future, I may try to make a page to link to all of them from a page similar to Special:BookSources, as described at d:Wikidata:Project chat/Archive/2024/06 § Get all values of a Wikidata property from page history. - Just noting that if the template itself is deleted, the parameters/values passed to the template will still be there, e.g.
{{EIN|09876}}
would just becomeEIN: 09876
, but that does not need a template to function. Primefac (talk) 19:28, 12 December 2024 (UTC)- Even linking to EIN (identifier) or its redirect target Employer Identification Number is beneficial to explain what "EIN" means. Without the external link, this is a typing-aid template. However, I am hopeful that a link target can be restored in the near future. Daask (talk) 21:11, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

- Template:See also if exists (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
- Template:See also (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Propose merging Template:See also if exists with Template:See also.
I think that the “if exists” function should just be a default on see also. It would help to clear a very large backlog and prevent said backlog from growing. See also shows up first when searching for the template, and see also if exists is not commonly used. Noelle!!! (summon a demon or read smth) 17:08, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

- Template:Incomprehensible (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages) - 166 transclusions
- Template:Confusing (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages) - 2322 transclusions
Propose merging Template:Incomprehensible into Template:Confusing.
The distinction between "This article may be very hard to understand..." and "This article may be confusing or unclear..." appears to be arbitrary. It is difficult to see what would be lost if we only had one of these template for such cases.
Reducing the number of such similar template pairs makes it easier for editors to find a template when they need to use one, and reduces the maintenance burden. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:33, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- Good call. I kind of like the wording and links displayed on {{confusing}} better, but I trust whoever does the merge to do something nice. Care will need to be taken to merge the parameters and categories correctly (they seem compatible) and notify bot authors, but I support the merge. (And wow, looks like I made this template two decades ago. I have no memory of this, but it does seem like the sort of thing I would do.) -- Beland (talk) 20:53, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
- No opinion on whether to merge or not. But if merging, slight preference for {{Confusing}} to be the merge target, and BLARing {{Incomprehensible}}. Confusing is a shorter, pithier word. –Novem Linguae (talk) 02:08, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Incomprehensible is pretty niche and would benefit from merging -- wonder if it sometimes is used like {{technical}}, or bad English, though.
- Looking at a few:
- Carnot_heat_engine -- works
- Universology -- works
- Imamate_in_Shia_doctrine -- technically confusing, but mostly because the English is terrible
- Market_maker -- works
- So I don't oppose the merge -- the template is obscure and needs to go, because having an ambiguous category that includes multiple others is bad. But also, because it includes multiple others, some articles are going to get tagged in a way that's a little bit off the spirit of things, is the downside. Absent a better idea, this is still probably the best solution, in my opinion. Mrfoogles (talk) 04:58, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Merge per nom, there isn't a clear delineation on when one should be used versus the other. Additionally the "incomprehensible" seems to rarely be used in comparison to "confusing". TiggerJay (talk) 16:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
The Jamaica Tallawahs CPL franchise disbanded at the end of 2023, a "current" squad template is no longer accurate or required. JP (Talk) 11:02, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
