File:Scouts Canada.svg

There was no justification for user:Tawker to have speedy deleted this file. It was a perfect svg representation (not "older" as claimed) of the Scouts Canada emblem. Emblems are used in infoboxes, not "logos" or current branding. Nothing was significantly different from the smaller, lower quality logo being foisted now. Please restore it, and consider the Scouting WPMOS, which is aiming toward svgification of all Scout national emblems. Again, a discussion was warranted before user:Tawker did this unilateral move. The emblem _was_ in use, and was deleted without proper discussion. Please restore. -Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:44, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Image above has fair use image violation issues, according to Wikipedia:Logos we need to use lowest res version possible for fairuse. MOS states nothing as to usage of emblem vs logo that I can find Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/MOS does not even have the term "emblem" or "logo" in it -- Tawker (talk) 05:14, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
Tawker cannot prove any such violation ever took place, the svg was always shown no greater than 140 px, he's trying to cover for his policy mininterpretation and for failing to discuss the matter before his improper speedy deletion.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 05:40, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
There was no problem with the size, just the lack of use. awker deleted it because it sat unused for the required length of time. If it is used and is fair use we can have it. I restored this before and it stayed up for a few months. It is best to discuss which image to use on the talk page of the article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:18, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Order of Thelemic Knights

Some one noted on the deletion page: "blatant hoax" as if the organization didn't exist. As the CEO of this organization, which works along side of The Red Cross and other charities, I take exception to this. Furthermore, there are articles on Wikipedia itself that reference pages written by our members on our website. We also do a fair bit of publishing, which can be verified with a quick search on Amazon.com - quite frankly, I am disappointed that an organization that does the sort of work we do would be so easily blown off by your editors with so little research. -98.246.136.146 (talk) 17:17, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Not done - As announced at the top of the page, this process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially and has no applicability to articles deleted after any deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Order of Thelemic Knights, it cannot be undeleted through this process. Nevertheless, if you believe that the consensus found at the discussion was in error, or that significant new information has come to light since the deletion, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user TerriersFan (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review.

Thank you for your direction. I appreciate it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Solis93 (talkcontribs) 22:22, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Map of the Past

It is the page of an upcoming album by a moderately famous music group. There are pages for 4 of their other albums so it makes little sense to delete the page for Map of the Past. Roger Morneau was a famous Seventh-day Adventist author with a unique contribution to Adventism (as the only Seventh-day Adventist of note to corroborate Adventism's 'Great Controversy' theme based on personal experience with Luciferianism ) and thus should belong in the series of articles on Seventh-day Adventism. The first Google search term for Roger Morneau is 'wikipedia' yet there is no wikipedia article for him. Directed panspermia

I created a Directed Panspermia page. It was deleted because there is already a short section on this subject on the Panspermia page. However, the proposed article is subtantially more detailed and in-depth and I believe that it justifies to remain a separate page. The proposed article summarizes technical research published in peer reviwed papers over 35 years, with over 20 references to this literature. The subject of seeding space with life is of public interest and has notable as shown by media coverage including the New Scientist, Red Ice Radio, and PhysOrg, sienceandreligiontoday, and many other webpages and web journals. For these reasons it should justify a separate page in wikipeadia. The present related short section under Panspermia can be linked to the new proposed main article as is common in Wikpedia pages. - AbrahamDavidson (talk) 02:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

TETROSYL GROUP LTD

Please explain why certain groups/companies are listed on Wikipedia, such as Persil and Coca Cola and not Tetrosyl. What criteria do the company have to meet to be listed on Wikipedia? -SARAHELIZTAYLOR (talk) 09:29, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

  • An article could exist on this company if others have written about it. This version was very promotional and that was the reason it was deleted. Also there was no references to show that others had written about it. The article on Persil was not written by marketing people from that company. And other stuff exists does not justify this article when compared to something very different. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:45, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

No, it was created 20 years before I was born, and defunct 16 years prior. As I say, the licensing was good when I uploaded it, may I see the history to see what happened in the interim? I never claimed it was my design.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 10:42, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

anthony_myint

reasoning for deletion was that anthony myint was not notable, which is highly questionable given that he was named by numerous publications as very influential in the food world, and is a co-founder of mission chinese food, which has been named #2 in the usa by bon appetit magazine as well as gq which named mr. myint's restaurant #4 new restaurant in the usa. in addition, he was named eater.com's empire builder of the year, and was one of chow.com's top 13 most influential people in the food world. I believe he might not have been considered notable because of the old media type thinking where food celebrities are not considered real celebrities, but I believe that wikipedia should be able to realize in this day an age, with cooking channel, food network youtube, dozens of food publications, new types of cookbooks (including one that mr myint authored) that creative food people should be recognized. -160.83.73.15 (talk) 19:52, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Kenn Gardner wikipedia page

This website was created to acknowledge the accomplishments of Kenn Gardner while in public office as a Wake County Commissioner and outside accomplishments such as being the founder of the foster care scholarship program: the "W.I.S.E Initiative". Kenn Gardner is also a candidate in the 2012 elections for North Carolina Secretary of State and as such, citizens may wonder about his background and accomplishments. Therefore, I have created this webpage and believe that it should be included in the encyclopedia. I do not believe that it is appropriate to allow some candidates a wiki page, while others are unable to have one and that is another reason why I sought to create this page.

Other complaints that I have received from Wikipedia involve personal bias. I do not believe that I am being bias but merely stating his accomplishments. I have re-edited it since it has been deleted and I would hope that it is now completely free from bias. If you believe it to still be bias, I would hope that you could simply send a message with specific parts that are "bias" and allow me to re-word. I believe this page is very important and should be added to the encyclopedia. I have showed others and they believe it to be a good addition as well, not just because he is a candidate but also because he has made large contributions to Wake County. -Angardn2 (talk) 18:55, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Mistresses of the Swedish royal family

The article was deleted without a discussion as a result of the unrelated Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/English Names of Kings of Sweden. Of the users who expressed an opinion on the mistresses article one voted for deletion while three voted keep.

The rational expressed by the nominator for delete was "mistresses are usually not encyclopedic". Since the deletion we have seen the creation of articles the English royal mistress, List of English royal mistresses, List of Scottish royal mistresses plus a number of new subcategories in Category:Royal mistresses. The Category:Mistresses of Swedish royalty now contains 28 articles. We also have List of French royal mistresses. Individual articles have large sections on mistresses, like Mistresses of Henry VIII. -Petri Krohn (talk) 01:50, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Thinkup

I wish to continue work on this pre-stub article deleted due to 'A1' on an open source project. I have researched some references and a basic description and have made contact with the project's lead. These should provide sufficient context. I'd like to work in the incubator with the possibility of visibility and collaboration with others and an impartial assessment.

A simple Google search of: "thinkup" will return many relevant references.

-OrenBochman (talk) 17:10, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

  • I've contacted the project lead to clear copyright issues under fair use - should I have contacted someone else about this?
  • Since I feel that my request has not been given serious consideration, I will now make a public statement for the benefit of others.
  • I took a month to review policy before making the initial request, I've checked how best I could get my work restored so I could continue to work in peace. I consulted deletion policy, read this page's as well as the incubator's before finding any real avenue for setting things right.
  • This was obviously a waste of time since these rules have by and large only been consulted arbitrary and only after poor decisions have been made.
  • I've requested technical assistance which the deleter contritely refused from the outset.
  • He advised me to ask else where - so I came here. I guess this part of his suggestion you thought I should ignore.
  • I understand clearly why Peridon was so arrogant - one administrator's hand washes another and the consequences be damned.
  • I can also read between the lines - at every turn veiled threats why the article will be deleted once I place it into the main space. This from the outset is the reason I requested the incubator.
  • I am patently disgusted with how you little courtesy you treat other editors or their work and the general lack of decency going round these days - would it it relay hurt, you to do the right thing ??

OrenBochman (talk) 21:50, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Actually, A1s can't be challenged here, as they require a fundamental rewrite to be an encyclopedia article. What admins can do, however, is send you a copy of the deleted revisions so that you can improve on it before submitting it as a userspace draft. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 22:12, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

It seems that the article should not have been deleted under an A1 clause since it provided sufficient context. So this is just a technicality OrenBochman (talk) 22:41, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Wilkins will undoubtedly be casting the same skeptical eye on it as I. What is your business relationship, if any, with the subject? And why on Earth should we give a darn whether InsideSiliconAlley (whoever or whatever that is) approves of what appears here or not? --Orange Mike | Talk 22:32, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Relationship with subject as I explained before was that I covered this subject as a reporter. With respect to your second questions I have tried to be deferential to the rules herein, and didn't want to claim authorship of a piece for which I was not entirely the author.

Carlos "Caique" Elias

This page was nominated for speedy deletion because my original username "cjjusa1" led a reviewer to reasonably believe that I had a COI (conflict of interest) and that the article was likely for for promotional purposes only. While I acknowledge the appearance of COI, I have stated openly that I was a student of Caique's (I've trained under lots of different people), but am not otherwise affiliated with him. I successfully completed a change of username and now I would like to request that the original page be reinstated.

The reasons I believe the page should be reinstated are:

  1. The subject of the article, Carlos "Caique" Elias, clearly meets the WP:IMPORTANCE guidelines. Caique is a notable "elder" in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, being one of only 20 people in the world to achieve a rank of black and red belt. He is one of only 4 black and red belts in the entire United States. He trained directly under Helio Gracie, one of the founding fathers of BJJ.
  2. Caique is already listed as a notable practitioner on the following Wikipedia pages: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranking system, Kevin Burns (fighter), Hélio Gracie, and Gracie Humaitá. In particular, on the Gracie Humaitá page, please pay attention to how many of the other notable students of this academy have their own Wikipedia pages (and many of these subjects have lower rank than Caique).
  3. The article is written in what I believe to be a NPOV manner. It is not promotional nor does it make any unsubstantiated claims. In fact, it is arguably more NPOV than articles about other BJJ practitioners.
  4. The article contains at least two external, independent references backing up the contents of the article.

In summary, I think the article is more than good enough to be included in Wikipedia and I would be happy to work wit the community on improving it further once it is un-deleted. -Thechadl (talk) 01:26, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
