Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 September 14
This is my first Wikipedia page. I have created a page about Robert Maier, he worked behind the scenes on a number of John Waters films. I would like to include either his photo or the movie poster for Hairspray in the article but am having trouble adding an image from my desktop. I have included links to IMDB profiles of Robert Maier, John Waters, and one of the actresses from Waters' movies. Maier has known John Waters for many years and wrote a book about his experiences during Waters' films. Thanks so much for your help on this.

- Moved article to Gary Foster (musician) as it's a clearer title than listing all his instruments.
- NB: Original title still exists, but as a redirect.
- Copy-edited and made a few adjustments, fixed some typos, etc.
- Comments
- I realise Gary is an elderly chap now, however, some of the sources are quite old, 1992, 1995, 1999 - a few more reviews dated within the last 5 years would be stronger material, assuming he has been active in those years and given independently published attention?
- I think it would be worth proving references to support the claims to all the other artists and bands he has worked with, as well as the movie soundtracks, as the "Professional career" section is very thin on referencing at the moment, and open to being challenged.
- I note you have been contributing for quite a while on Wiki, so I'll just throw a few quick wikilinked help pages your way to consider, that may help in taking the article further, rather than preach: WP:BLP, WP:V, WP:N, WP:RS.
Marcus: thanks for the suggestions and they are good ones.
1. I will try to find other recent reviews for Gary but what I saw was not popping up with the LA Times, I will try to though and you do make a good point. The interviews I referenced were done just this year in Spring, a substantial amount of information came from those.
2. First, the claims of Gary's credits for CDs and with artists is already there with the Allmusic Guide (link given), his credits are on there and that has been supplied without making the page look too 'junky.' It certainly needs the links you say but they are there if you go to Allmusic.
- In this case, I'd recommend you remove the line saying "A more complete discography for Gary Foster can be obtained at Allmusic Guide – Gary Foster (discography) and Allmusic Guide – Gary Foster (credits)" and put a short sentence in the last two sections then <ref> each one. Either way, you need to prove that he worked with all those named acts and soundtracks to avoid this: WP:CHALLENGE. Ma®©usBritish [talk]
Hmmm...movie soundtracks are very difficult to deal with because the session musicians do not generally get any credts for doing these, only the composers and music editors. I got Gary's IMDB listing, as much as there is with this lack of credting given to soundtrack players. Gary's list of soundtrack things is MAMMOTH and I am not sure what is too much or too little when the HARD proof would have to be dealt with by looking at Gary's own royalty stub.
- Per my WP:CHALLENGE comment, claims to him working with other artists need reliable supporting sources, under BLP guidelines. Ma®©usBritish [talk]
3. Yes, page by page I am learning how to link and format, thank you for giving me some more ammo on this. I will look at those reference pages.
4. Why did Gary's pic get taken off? I got it from Gary HIMSELF. What do I need to do(?), there is no legal problem of having that posted.
- That was done after my review by someone else, per Wikipedia:CSD#F3 - I suggest you reupload it but with a suitable license to avoid deletion (CCA3 or GFDL). Ma®©usBritish [talk]
Thanks, I do appreciate your time Marcus, thank you for cleaning up the page!

You mean in the Bibliograghy and External links sections? Right?
I will try to read more carefully about pics/uploading and get that from my hard drive at work tomorrow (soon!), thought I had it right this time.
Thanks again!

Yes - just above the lists on artists and work. Ma®©usBritish [talk] 02:21, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
I have created an article about Anjali Gupta, but I would like experienced authors to help me with copy editing. I have added links in the article to reputed sources for reference. Is it ok to add an image without copy rights for this article as a special case ? Thanks

Is the article ok to be published?
Susanosler (talk) 14:38, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Not yet, it needs much more work. Instead of just asserting things are "notable", you need to have citations to the actual sources we can verify. Saying "referenced many times in 2009" will not suffice. Cite the sources please, the burden of proof is on the one who wants the article. Remove any promotional material (e.g. "takes a personal interest..") and remove lists of non-notable employees for example. Finally the formatting needs to be in a specific style, such as removing the extra title name at the front. Just put it in bold in the first sentence as you have done; the name will automatically appear at the very top. You need to use "wikilinks" to other related articles using double square brackets. Links to other wikipedia articles do not go in "external links" but inline in the text. Perhaps look at several existing articles for examples. W Nowicki (talk) 23:08, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

- It is close. I will audit the citations and reformat to see if they are truely independent (not just press releases). A major problem is that it is written more like a news article. Generally simple past tense should be used to make sure it is clear whne things happened. For example, "in September 2011 it had ...." W Nowicki (talk) 23:12, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your help! The edits look great. Ekuipers (talk)
I am writing seeking reviewers for a new fact based, company article on Wikipedia of Alteryx. Alteryx, Inc., a private agile business intelligence software company was founded in 1997, growing in notability within its industry.
Some of the key mentions in press releases, print and television include: Microsoft Corp. named Alteryx a data launch partner for its Marketplace DataMarket; media outlets such as Fox 9 News covered Alteryx sponsored World T.E.A.M. Sports event the Adventure TEAM Challenge; and has mentions in Forrester's Boris Evelson's blog.
Your assistance in reviewing to get this published would be greatly appreciated. Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Hkeller6/Alteryx,_Inc.

- This is borderline, since the sources were almost all press releases or web sites published by the company. It also had uncited promotional language and jargon that needed to be removed. I will work on it again and try to save. W Nowicki (talk) 21:41, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Before I submit this first article, I would appreciate any feedback for improvements.

I want to start adding books to Facebook - for example, I went to Like this book "One Foot in The Black" on Facebook, but nothing shows up in the data because there is no Wikipedia article yet. Just want to make sure I added everything correctly. it's an overview of the book and the author name. I could also add the book cover image. Starting slow.

- If you're keen to write an article on a book, please look at Wikipedia:Notability (books) for information on how to do so, as Wiki has guidelines as to the requirements for any type of article. At the moment your 4 external links are not what we consider reliable sources to account for notability. But if you read through that first link, you might be able to identify what does count and find appropriate sources. Cheers.
My first article, just want some general feedback. Thank you!
