[edit]Disposition of forces at the declaration of the Crimean War
[edit]Can anyone find a source that outlines French, British, Russian, and Ottoman territory holdings and troop/naval placements at the declaration of war by France and Britain (28 March 1854)? I'm having trouble discerning what the situation seemed like at that point. Eddie891 Talk Work 21:40, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- For the British forces, that would be not be an easy thing to ask for. In peacetime, there were no divisions, they were formed as and when required. So individual battalions were brought from hither, thither and yon to be formed into brigades and divisions as they arrived in theatre. The British Empire was on course to occupy a quarter of the world's land surface, so pinning down where all those units were at the declaration of war might require a lot of research and I'm not sure what purpose it would serve. - My question was more specifically about the forces actually in the region surrounding the Black Sea, which I think is probably recorded somewhere (though I realize now that it was not clearly phrased at all). Eddie891 Talk Work 16:57, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
- Some info at The Malta Garrison 1854. Alansplodge (talk) 17:25, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
