[edit]Games played with mahjong tiles
[edit]The mahjong tiles article states:
Mahjong tiles ... are tiles of Chinese origin that are used to play mahjong as well as mahjong solitaire and other games.
What are these other games? 2601:18A:C500:7170:89A4:CB87:B8AA:5A68 (talk) 04:53, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Perhaps Shisen-Sho, a game that is similar to mahjong solitaire but uses a different arrangement. Also, allegedly, mahjong tiles are used by fortune-tellers.[1] If one doesn't take this seriously, one may think of fortune-telling as a game.[2] --Lambiam 09:34, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sap Tim Pun, "...bears particular similarities to the western card game of rummy". Alansplodge (talk) 12:07, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
Fantasy novels with a protagonist married from start to end
[edit]Could you please name a fantasy/science fiction novel where the main character is already married/engaged at the start of the novel and is with the same person at the end?Thanx
- Not novels, but Willow, and Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Staecker (talk) 10:45, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- In the Princess Bride, they are at least intended if not formally engaged at the beginning of the book. Rmhermen (talk) 17:53, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Aragorn and Arwen are engaged throughout the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. Rmhermen (talk) 18:09, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- But not during The Hobbit ! —Tamfang (talk) 01:54, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- Star Trek: Voyager. Janeway and Tuvok were married when they got stranded in the Delta Quadrant at the beginning of the series. And although they suffered temptations and despair along the way, they stayed loyal to their respective spouses to the very end. And WandaVision may count, but with many caveats. Cambalachero (talk) 03:14, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- These are not novels, though. --Lambiam 08:14, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
"She's in love with a [insert word here] man" song
[edit]As primary school children in the latter half of the 70's we sang a song "Digger man, digger man, Jane's in love with a digger man" because Jane had a crush on someone who drove a digger. I'm sure it was closely based on a chart single of the time, but cannot think which. Can anyone help? Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 16:29, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- It would be good to hear the tune, but the words might fit with Painter Man. --Wrongfilter (talk) 16:53, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Maybe Don Williams's "She's In Love With A Rodeo Man" (1974)? --Jayron32 17:11, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Jayron32: Sorry I should have said I'd already eliminated She's In Love With A Rodeo Man (good song though, and I do remember it from childhood). @Wrongfilter: Brilliant! Painter Man it is - it's the Boney M version we would have known. DuncanHill (talk) 18:34, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- [3], although I don't hear the exact words. 79.76.33.181 (talk) 13:54, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
